Dr Sylvia , I had a feeling you were talking about me while watching your video ! I have been offered IUD twice and I just can't get used to that idea ! It's a NO from me for all the reason you mentioned , lots of woman say IUD is a reason for weight gain too but don't think there is enough research done on this topic

Hi DD, I think so many of us feel this way! (And I'm so glad you felt the video resonated with your concerns). I really want to make sure you (and other viewers) feel I'm addressing something that is meaningful to your context in one way or another.
To be honest, we can't and shouldn't disregard women's fears/ concerns about the method even though there are a good number who have good experience with the coil.
We have different experiences, but being aware of potential issues with birth control methods like this, helps educate us and we can make appropriate choices. I agree a lot more work needs to be done on side effects, but in respect of weight gain, it's still looking inconclusive - i.e. some studies find no link, while others may suggest an association. So clinicians generally believe there isn't. Great observations and thanks for watching!

Excaclty ! Forgot to add that when I have been offered IUD there was no mentioning about side effects , I had impression that doctor thought it would be easy fix for my issue without explaining to me what I can expect after having IUD fitted
