      I mean they have to shove their fingers up there to check how open your cervix is too.
      I had to have my cervix checked at every weekly checkup from 35 weeks until 39, bc I gave birth.
      was your doctor a female? I made sure mine was a female cuz there is absolutely no way I’d be comfortable enough to let a man check my cervix or anything like that.
      Another thing is - after I gave birth, at my 6 week PP checkup where I got the Mirena birth control put in my cervix. WORST IDEA EVERRR!!
      They have to stick a RULER in you to measure your cervix before putting it in and omg I thought I was going to die!! It hurt so fricken bad. I’m so glad I had my mommas hand to hold or I would have punched my poor doctor. Lol and the worst part was I could still feel the deep painful pressure in my lower stomach after I had already left from getting it. That feeling stayed for like an hour, or so. I’m suuuuuper scared to get it removed now, I’m not gonna lie.

      @@kayycee4585 YESSS!! Getting it in was sooo terrible. I hated it so much. That sounds so nice though! I hope my removal is easy like that too, Lol. I saw a video of two women showing how to remove them on a dummy. It looked pretty easy and quick! I’m just so scared that they’ll have complications trying to remove mine or something since I’ve had it for almost 3 years now, lol. Just gotta leave my worries with Jesus, and pray extra hard about it all. ♥️

    I had it done at 41 1/2 weeks on a Monday and gave birth on Wednesday. I was warned it could be painful and might just cause cramps that don't actually start labour but, the goal was to avoid a hospital induction. I went into labor 14 hours after the membrane sweep which was nice because I was able to labor at home for a while before going to hospital. The membrane sweep wasn't necessarily painful I described it as having somebody stick their finger in the back of your throat and wiggling it. Not comfortable but not exactly painful either more weird. I would have it done again but, I don't understand why people are doing it before 40 weeks? I understand being pregnant sucks but, why rush the baby, they come when they're ready.

      Mines was done due to a health issue. After having the cervical cerclage removed at 38 weeks my obgyn told me by 39 weeks if I haven’t went into labor on my own that I would be induced and I was positive for group b strep and I had to have an i.v. full of antibiotics pumped throughout my labor and delivery as well as taking antibiotics throughout the last trimester. Both of my children were born healthy with no issues before 40 weeks. Sometimes it can’t be delayed 🤷🏽‍♀️

    Used this as a last ditch effort at 41 weeks 6 days to avoid an induction. My doctor did a sweep at 10:30 am and I had my child in my arms a little after 5 pm same day. Needless to say i avoided that induction the next day lol.

      This is a good point, but it’s not only the care provider that can affect how it feels. The position of your cervix has a big role in this as well. If your cervix is in a posterior position it will most likely be more uncomfortable than if you have a cervix in the anterior position.

    I just had this done today, this is my second child and I personally didn’t find it painful. To me it just felt like a lot of pressure and slightly uncomfortable. I felt very shaky all day after and I was surprised by how much energy it zapper but I didn’t find it insanely unpleasant. It hasn’t sent me into labor as of yet but it got me to 3 cm after being stuck at 1cm for 2 weeks.

    The last little statement 'many people do find it painful' is not doing the actual pain level justice. My doctor attempted it but having a red hot poker shoved up there and stirred around in an effort to remove the actual cervix would not have been any more painful. I had to stop him because there was just no moving forward with that level of pain. I have broken bones before, been in a car accident, had surgeries and have never even been close to passing out from pain. This did it. I feel like it was invented by a man who may or may not have hated women. I'm joking, but it was like being assaulted when you're already in a ton of pain. Wow.

After I was induced my obgyn just so happened to get lucky by turning him back into head first position and when I tell you how significant that pain was you’d thought I was lying 😂😂😂 Nope, I could literally hear the rotation of my son turning. He was super stubborn, he was born with a light scratch on his left cheek cause they had to use forceps. With every push a second later he’ll try to go back inside, not on that day 😂 I was only in labor for 8 hours after induction. No epidural and my first, sheesh what was I thinking 🤔 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

    Having mine done tomorrow! So tired of my prodromal labor contractions so hopefully this’ll help get things kickstarted!!
    Edit: it worked! Went into labor two days later! Now baby girl is almost 6 weeks old 🥲

    I got this done and it did absolutely nothing but make it feel like i had to pee every 5 seconds literally and then when i notified them they started trying to say i might have a urinary tract infection but i didnt i think the midwife who did it was just rough or did it wrong because it didnt induce labor for me at all and she had a attitude when i asked her to do it

    Just had this done today it's not that bad im 39 weeks and my body will just not progress like its supposed to my doctor said if i don't give birth within my 40 week mark they'll induce me

    • @birthtoolbox

      I am wishing you so much luck! Please know that your body is normal for not being in labor by 39 weeks. It is very common not to go into labor until after 40 weeks.

    I don't know what my doctor did .... she inserted two fingers and did something painful she said that it's cervical examination and i went home... at night a jelly like discharge came i was panicked and called the hospital... the nurse said that discharge will come for some days and hung up..... i just don't know what's happening i think it's my mucus plug

    • @birthtoolbox
      @birthtoolbox  6 місяців тому

      Yes, that sounds like your mucus plug . It can also be streaked with blood (pink, red or brown). The doctor might have stripped your membranes too.

      Hi there. So you were already dilated when they did the stretch and sweep?! Why did they continue?!
      And what happened that resulted in you having an emergency c section?!
      I've got a stretch and sweep booked tomorrow and hoping I hear from you before that.
      How far along were you and what made you choose to get one? Thank you. Hope all is well now.

    • @birthtoolbox
      @birthtoolbox  5 місяців тому

      It can really vary depending upon the position of your cervix. If your cervix is posterior (pointed to the back which is typical in pregnancy before labor begins) then it can be quite intense. If the cervix has moved towards the front it can be less painful. More in this video ua-cam.com/video/I5AlkgUvPZY/v-deo.html
