You know what's the scary part of this?
We're not safe from live action Frozen anymore.
We already got one, it's called "that one season of Once Upon A Time even the fans groaned at". It didnt try to do anything interesting to make the fairytale fit their modern world the way the first seasons did, where it's clearly those fairytales but not trying to just literally use the Disney versions; that one was just... Disney's Elsa and Anna's live action adventures.
@@zoeb3573 I liked Once Upon a Time at the beginning (mainly S1 and S2), after i saw that, i just stopped watching, i didnt care if it was good or bad after, i just lost interest after watching it.
Or tangled…. If they DARE touch tangled I will throw hands
@@user-lt6dq4ir2w Yo man I'mma join you and also throw hands if they dare ruin such a masterpiece.
there is an older film about the snow queen that i adored as a child. i would rather watch that 300 times than a frozen remake.
Imagine they finally make a Moana 2, and it’s a sequel to the live action remake
prison
Do not manifest that.
Apparently a sequel to Moana was gonna happen but got scrapped for the pointless live action remake instead
I would not be surprised if Johnson is planning a Maui spinoff franchise
The live action Lion King is getting a spinoff and Aladdin is getting a spinoff live action series. Moana getting a live action sequel is not that farfetched anymore sadly.
On the bright side, if they do make a horrific monstrosity of a live recreation of tamatoa, then schaff will at least have more reaction images than the few ones he’s stuck with
This movie might do some good then!
But wouldnt It be like wierd? Like one second u got this cartoony crab and then you got just, realistic tamatoa
but just like the pikmin 2 piklopedia. there nothing else good
well generally in live actions they rip their characters of any emotion or personality so idk about that

More like "my superhero shtick failed and I really wanna do that, so how about Maui instead?"
Maui is a really cool character, but most of that is due to how animated he is. Live action Maui cannot hope to top the animated version unless they wanna go the Scott Pilgrim route which is not gonna happen.
And Maui is beefier than The Rock will ever be. I honestly think The Rock is trying to scratch off a bucket list of some kind.
@@Manganization I don't know, have you seen The Rock's wrestling footage? dude was a real life cartoon.
I just *love* Disney basically telling their animation department that everything they do needs to be remade because it was done in a “subpar” medium. It’s just so cool

Legit just want them to cast an actual crab for Tamatoa. No voice actor, no CGI, just a crab. I'd pay for that.
Also, this entire movie will be redeemed if they have Sebastian help Tamatoa up in the post-credits. The crab bromance will be forever paved into history

Ruining Tamatoa would be doubly insulting when you remember he was Disney's tribute to David Bowie, who was originally set to voice Tamatoa before he died and was replaced by Jemaine Clement.
Live-Action Tamatoa is going to be downright lovecraftian
That sounds kinda cool actually ngl
Lovecraftian as in it'll look like a Bug's Life reject instead of an all powerful might mega sea crab
I want it to look like a Trevor Henderson creature. Like schaff said, if they’re gonna ruin it, they’d better go all the way with it
Why let others make horror movie versions of movies youve nade when you can do it yourself
They will probably cut Tamatoa like they cut Be Prepared from the Lion King remake.
I love how unapologetically sardonic Schaff is in this video. I don’t even detect anger in his voice; he’s just become the hollow hearted husk that all who stare into the void (that is Disney) too long end up becoming.

3:36 Aged like fine wine. Moana 2 will be here in November.
This came to my mind when It was announced lmao
It’s hilarious that they are releasing Moana 2 and the shitty live-action remake just MONTHS apart from each other. To paraphrase what Schaff said in his video about Disney+, it feels like Disney is eating itself alive for short-term profit.
It has now been announced that they’re making a Moana 2, and there has been no report of the live action remake being canceled, only that it’s release date got pushed by a year in favor of the sequel.
That’s… actually good news somehow
We're slowly approaching the point of remake singularity where they'll develop and release the animated and live action versions of the same movie at the same time
That sounds so pointless and yet so plausible

There's plenty of way better ways to waste your time, so much to do, yet you choose to fill your brain with this smooth bs
how is disney not embarrassed at this point
Because the decision-makers at the top care more about money than they do what anyone thinks of them. As long as these remakes stay absurdly profitable, they'll keep churning more out no matter how bad the reviews get.
@@HumbleWooper bingo
How could you be embarrassed sleeping on a gigantic pile of money? You have to understand what kind of people business execs are. These are the kind of people that would sell their own grandma into chattle slavery to make an extra 3%. Wolf of Wall Street is like 10% as bad as execs actually are

@@kawaiiemolga yes, the lion king live action was such a joke with all these unexpressive animals. I nearly busted laughing in the theater when mufasa died. It was so dull.
Personally I'd be so happy to have a Moana 2, where they find new Polynesian mythology on the islands that Moana and her people are now exploring. That could go over so well!
I don’t think anyone’s ready for how horrific live-action Tamatoa is going to be.
I’m not ready for how horrific this whole movie will be
They’re gonna screw him up so badly….
if they made sebastian a lobster, i can't imagine what they'll do to tomatoa.
Simple, they'll just remove him from the movie outright.
Only thing that will look good is Maui if he is played by Dwayne Johnson, because Maui is literally the Rock in animation
I miss the 90s, when Disney took risks and primarily valued imagination, storytelling, freshness and substance over money.
Maybe if Bob Iger can get his shit toge- *Bob Iger loves live-action and thinks that children only wants live-action and animation is only for Adults* Nevermind that!
I don't think the era that gave us the stereotypical extreme/edgy yet safely marketable to everybody aesthetic mocked by millennials, adult animation, and modern Disney themselves was about valuing creativity *over* money. Eisner was a creative. He was better at balancing the conflict between corporate interests and the artistic pursuits inherent in running an entertainment company, but let's not pretend it was a golden age just because of the Renaissance. I'd argue Disney's television projects are the best they've ever been, for example, far better than what they could offer in the 90s.
That era only happened because Disney was falling off a bit beforehand with less profits than usual I assume. So until they make less money than usual I don’t think that’s going to happen any time soon.
@@chargeminecraft chapek was the main factor with that stuff, igor will hopefully rein the bs in
If it were to happen again, there is no way Disney could pull off another renaissance.
If they fall on hard times, they will go bankrupt.
I, for one, am hoping and waiting for it.
You make a good point about how Disney could just tell a new story showcasing more Polynesian culture and hire more Polynesian actors. I can turn to pretty much any story and find a character who looks like me, and this INCREDIBLY diverse set of people has to make do with ONE story over and over again? absolutely not. it just makes the movie look like a token gesture rather then a genuine attempt.
EDIT: also, just 7 years ago Moana was a new IP! It did the work to get people invested in its story and characters!! They are so massive they cannot seriously be this afraid!!!
They're also making a live-action Lilo and Stitch. Interested to see how they handle the aliens, especially freaking _fifty foot Gantu._
Personally, my theory is they're doing these two so they can film in the same areas at the same time and cut costs on what will be 2 mistakes.

I don’t wanna imagine how tamatoa would look like 😬
@@Pitufo458 in a stage production? I think they could do something really cool, as theater lends itself to using symbolism to loosely but effectively represent elements and characters. For example, someone mentioned in another comment about a Moana play in a school were instead of making the kid playing Tamatoa wear a crab suit or something like that, the Tamatoa costume was a purple suit with a blazer filled with sequins, which is a pretty dapper look + it effectively represents the character in a satisfactory manner in accordance to the medium where it's shown.

What an absolutely terrifying concept op
Your boyfriend is a man of innovation
The weirdest thing is that Maui the actual demigod figure has a whole tranche of fairly epic stories associated with him, so if The Rock desperately had to have another film with him in that role, couldn't they have made an animated Moana prequel or spin-off from that material...? 🤔
And now they're making an animated sequel (seemingly out of nowhere), arriving to theatres in November...
It’s based on the tv show they just it into a movie like the direct to dvd sequel in the 2000s

I doubt it'll change much? Disney live action remakes, while having fans, have been made fun of for years by vocal parts of the internet. But that's not what Disney cares about, they care about money and these make money.
Rick Riordan, the author of the Percy Jackson books, gets his work published under Disney (hence Disney also picking up PJO for a live action show). Rick started doing “Rick Riordan Presents” which allows poc authors to get their stories out there about their cultures and mythologies. I feel like an easy way for Disney to do live action and “show” other cultures for representation, would be to start adapting these works. The stories are already there for them, but they’d be new to many people.
as soon as they announced this my immediate reaction was “HOW DO YOU CONVERT TAMATOA INTO LIVE ACTION”
Either a giant shiny coconut crab or something downright lovecraftian.
After an announcement like this, we still dont know the bottom of the barrel for disney and the thought of that is terrifying
I think bottom of the barrel will be them making a live action for a still in production animated film, the animated film getting delayed, and the live action coming out first... But still playing like it's banking on nostalgia, lol.
You go to check on that guy you left at the bottom of the barrel and he’s dug through the bottom and is now scraping at the earth with bloodied fingers
Rock bottom would be when theaters have an ad for the live action film play before the start of said animated film.
Somehow, I think having a live action and animated version of a film come out at the same time might actually be a marked improvement over what we have now, given that it would require both films to actually be good.

Can we PLEASE rally together, and all agree NOT to support these films in theaters? We are a powerful force! We need to spread this on the internet. Officially boycott Disney.
Give'em the Mulan (2020) treatment?
@@aurea. x10.
Not gonna work
I think the fact that movie studios these days seem to put more thought into what an angry internet mop that hasn't actually seen the movie might think, rather than the opinions of people who've actually seen a movie, is more part of the problem than the solution. I don't wanna encourage that. Better spread awareness of overlooked actually good movies online.
Unless by "these films" you mean apparently pointless films that already came out and then every reviewer (you trust) confirms that they are pointless. Sure, I'm not giving them the time of day or my money.
But petitioning for busy parents not to park their kids in front of Disney+ seems like a pointless endeavor. People aren't going to boycott a movie for being exactly what they are looking for, a bunch of CGI key-dangling.
Ah, the cycle continues. The anti-SJWs cry for a bit, act all tought like they'll make a difference and then go back to doing nothing while those of us who aren't terminally online actually fight against the leftists.
I’m 18 years old and even then Moana still feels recent af. Like fr in my mind it feels like it came out yesterday, I’m always baffled when I realize it came out in 2016
Same here. 🙋♀ I saw it in the theater when I was 12 but that's not enough to be nostalgic for me. Things I did when I was 12 years old was nostalgic, such as playing Minecraft after school with my friends, but that's because I did it for such a long time both before and after that age. Moana hasn't been long enough to be nostalgic. I feel like with movies, there has to be a significant amount of time after the release for it to have that feeling. A movie I feel nostalgic for is Home on the Range, because I watched it a lot when I was young. (^ - ^)

So long as Disney can milk their films for as much as they can, they’ll make more and more of the same damn movie, but significantly worse in every way.

This can go two ways:
1. They make Tomatoa cartoony and it looks 10x more stupid than blue Will Smith
2. They make Tomatoa realistic and traumatizes anyone who dares to step into the theatre.
I imagine he'll just get cut entirely. Beating up Dwayne and being a nightmare to execute makes it a real unlikely to stay in
3. They make Tamatoa a lil itty bitty crab and he just ends up silly
After seeing live action Sebastian, I very afraid how Tomatoa is gonna look...
One day, they're gonna remake Dinosaur or Chicken Lil and I'm terrified of that
I remember when they first started making these live action remakes, I used to make jokes of how we would get remakes of movies like tangled and frozen soon enough… I should’ve knocked on wood.
I foresee if they do bring in Tamatoa to live-action he wont speak at all and will just be an action packed fight scene showing off how smart and cool Moai is.
First off, I agree, they’ll absolutely just turn him into a faceless monster crab with no interesting facets to him.

It's weird that Dwayne Johnson is pushing for this and not another Jumanji movie. Both of his Jumanji movies were huge hits, and it's just strange that they haven't finished the trilogy yet.
Or Jungle Cruise, that seemed like a potential franchise.
Yes, Dwayne Johnson should prioritize on Jumanji movies, not on Moana remake. I want more Jumanji movies, not a live-action demake of Moana.
Seriously, if Dwayne Johnson wants people to see more of him being cool in the live-action movies, why not give people more Jumanji movies because those movies take place in action adventure video games.

KILL IT WITH FIRE
I feel like I need to point out that the 10 year olds who first saw it are 17 now and will be 18 by the time it comes out. Don't want to make you feel old, but even the 7 year olds who watched it are now able to work and earn their own money. The nostalgia factor is still there, disney is just trying to figure out how early they can place them and expect returns.
I can imagine Dwayne Johnson wearing a tight, green suit from ankle to neck so they can digitally edit more tattoos on him, and animated mini Maui.
That is, if mini Maui will appear at all, since he’s just as cartoony as Tamatoa.
Obviously mini Maui will be live action too.
I can see an image of tiny Dwayne dancing around his body and I cannot stop laughing
I think the worst part is that disney might eventually *COMPLETELY* drop animation,
And I feel like this isn’t talked about much,
But you literally CAN NOT deny the sheer beauty of recent animated disney movies,
Encanto in general, while not only being well written, was GORGEOUS,
Bruno’s prophecy scene,antonio’s tree-house,basically every song number.
Its scary to think we’d lose ALL of that just for some bland live action movies.
It started with the first remake of The Jungle Book (1990's), then that 2011 Winnie the Pooh movie (their last 2D movie ever) before fully transitioning to 3D only; I wouldn't be surprised if it were the case tbh. Disney wants to distance themselves from the thing that made them unique, that made them famous, that changed the world for almost a century, all in favour of the want for "maturity". Animation isn't immature, it's a form of art, a technique in filmmaking. No more, no less.
Maybe they should try to tell decent stories again instead of trying to score woke points. Art and propaganda are mutually exclusive, especially in family entertainment. They have the technical talent, but anything beautiful gets eviscerated by their politics long before it can escape the studio.
At this point I would be ok with disney animation going under and all those talented artists heading to other studios, or starting their own. Their recent films always focus on a compelling social issue, and then they run away from it at the last minute so their audience doesn't have to think or feel uncomfortable (frozen 2 has Elsa use magic to end a conversation on generational racism, Encanto is a 'story' about familial trauma where the villain just apologizes in the last five minutes...etc etc). The problem isn't Disney incorporating social critique into their films, it's that it doesn't feel organic because it's board mandated, and they're so greedy that they'll never say anything meaningful about those topics.
