My favorite part of the movie is when Pinocchio said "Father, when can I leave to be on my own"
Those lines changed my life
I knew the movie would be a masterpiece, I was Pauly sure of it
Yes, they can never be replicated!
“I want the whole world to see…” The Pauley Shore Pinocchio movie is haunting my dreams.
hes got the whole world to see
Also, Pinocchio purposefully lying to make his nose grow was literally already done in Shrek 2. I can’t believe Schaff didn’t mention that.
was scrolling to find this comment, glad I'm not the only one who noticed
apparently that is done in several other versions of the story. but yeah also kinda surprised he didn't mention it
It was done better in shrek 2, this is just painfully bad
@Robert Monroe They're briefs!
Hey! I know this isn’t related but can Schaffrillas please do a video on the Kirby final bosses ranking and see how that ends up? Just spreading the word.
I heard they also ruined the moral about skipping school. In the original, he's tempted to go to pleasure island, and chooses it over school. In this remake, he chooses to go to school, then the school kicks him out for being a puppet, then he goes to pleasure island. So instead of learning a valuable lesson about the consequences of his own actions, now he's a victim.
Wrong, he didn’t choose pleasure island, he was manipulated by Honest John to be sold to a puppet show and perform for it under false pretenses. Pleasure island was later and he still didn’t choose to go there. Pinocchio is still a victim in both movies.
At least in the original (not Disney's, I honestly forgot how the 1940 movie goes), Pinocchio tries to go to school in both cases, but he's naive and easily charmed by the wrong people. Pinocchio trades his school textbook for a couple pennies to watch the puppet show and he ends up joining them on stage for fun. Stromboli is angry because Pinocchio ruined his show and wants to throw him in the fireplace, but he's moved by his cries and decides to free him and gift him five golden coins (which he later lets Honest John and Gideon steal by being naive).
As for Pleasure Island, there's a point where Pinocchio tries to be good and get back to school, but he's charmed by his classmate Candlewick who refuses Pinocchio's advice to come to school with him. Candlewick claims that he can't go to school that day because he's waiting midnight to go to Pleasure Island. Pinocchio is initially doubtful, but Candlewick manages to convince him to come along when he says that in Pleasure Island you can play all day and schools don't exist.
Pinocchio is a victim of naivety BUT he does bring bad things upon himself because no one ever forces him to make bad choices, he's the one who chooses to trust strangers and pick what he thinks is the 'easiest effortless way' instead of staying with the people who love him and want the best for him.
Sums up modern day society 😭
That's actually really messed up.

Let's not forget how this movie completely ruined Pinocchio's character: he never makes mistakes and is always the victim in every situation.

The Evan Hansen movie-ification of Pinocchio
exactly bro
In the original story pinocchio is a jerk, and everybody in italy likes it
Funny that in the Pinocchio movies the people is freaked out about a walking puppet and not the two metres tall Fox in hobo clothes.
Welcome to Disney World, where the rules are made up and the laws of physics don't matter.
Well maybe in that universe, animated puppets are considered unnatural but walking foxes in clothes and having financial issues is considered normal?
Funny that the fox is better animated than the entirety of the lion king remake
Well I'm gonna assume that anthropomorphic animals is more natural than a living puppet
Pinocchio is a highly metaphorical novel that Disney has distorted (and ruined)
In the original book pinocchio kills the talking cricket, is hanged by the cat and the fox, leads Geppetto to be arrested, after turning into a donkey he is exploited as a freak and remains lame
Funny Book
Guillermo de toro: Fine, I'll do it myself
Disney: oh sh-t !!!

It really feels like Disney just wants to end their own company at this point, like a suicidal immortal.

*sigh* Someday, but not today.
I think they're being lazy but also cowardly as they don't try to do any different or different in a way that add to the story black Ariel can work out they had a Jamaican talking crab in the animated movie but Disney isn't going to do anything that add to it or view in a different light or something it'll be the same but Ariel is black laziness also their a 1975Japanese little mermaids she a blonde Asian and was curious instead of want to be free form the sea also their a 2019 Pinocchio made by Italian on Amazon it ok but it different and interesting

review was pretty spot on. Can Disney STOP treating 2D animation like it's a sin that needs to be overwritten? It's an art form, leave your old IPs alone. We don't need to see a "live-action" that just ends up being cheap uncanny-valley GCI anyway.
Well, they can't REALLY leave their IPs alone.
They changed copyright/trademark laws so that instead of them entering the public domain after X years (they were about to lose Mickey Mouse) you got to keep them forever so long as you did stuff with them.
That's why topless Winnie the Pooh entered public domain and is getting a slasher film. Nobody used it.
It was either use Disney's Pinocchio (his specific design) or lose him forever.
Isn't it CGI?
It's not cheap, and that's the worst part. A lot of money and hard work goes into making these terrible movies.
@@Fractallol my autocorrect

Pinocchio using his growing nose to get a key to escape imprisonment is exactly what they did in Shrek 2.
The issue with 'Pinocchio lies so he can get the key' is just because he has the key doesn't mean his free -- his freakishly long nose still traps him in the cage. He has to now find a way to make his nose shrink back to its original size so he can escape.
@@EpicJoshua314 if he tells the truth his nose goes down
That's exactly what I thought
@@garyslayton8340 or doesn’t grow at all
And that scene was hilarious. Shrek can do what it wants because it's a parody & it usually aims for comedy. But Disney portraying lying in a positive light just doesn't work if everything else is meant to be taken seriously (even though the poor writing, CGI, etc. is such a joke).
"She serves no purpose and only exists to pad out the runtime."

Im astounded by how bad the cgi was. They're literally devolving, probably because of how they underpay and overwork their vfx artists :/

I understand why they removed the smoking and drinking alcohol references to make it more family friendly. But now, it just seems like the kids are being punished for doing typical childlike things, like consuming candy and root beer, which defeats the whole purpose of the Anti smoking and drinking moral.
I understand why as well, but I also don't like it at all 😭 I would add that real kids do get introduced to harmful substances by their friends every day. The movie had a chance to really drive home a good message by keeping the smoking and drinking but by taking those things out, it's unlikely most kids are gonna understand.
Parent groups would descend upon Disney's like Helm's Deep had they shown kids drinking and smoking, which is why they really should have done it.
I mean, the actual moral is anti-hedonism. Why do you think parents were okay with the substances in the original in the first place? Anti-smoking wasn't really a thing.
No, the moral is that pleasures in excess lead somebody to become a bum (or jackass, one might say). And how do bums get by? Letting themselves get exploited by greedy capitalists sneaking unfair contracts onto their ignorant behinds.
It's so stupid how we've gone backwards in censors that we can't show kids drinking and smoking when it's explicitly shown to be bad
Kinda surprised the original did an anti-smoking message given Walt Disney himself WAS a heavy smoker.
Del Toro's version of Pinocchio came out awhile back and MAN is it great!
The scenery of the whole thing is stunning, the entire thing is in stop motion and they've been working on it for 5 years if I remember correctly.
The story is heart-wrenching and will (probably) make you cry the entire time. You get attached to the characters (Pinocchio, Geppetto, CandleWick, The Cricket guy thing, sorry can't remember his name) and just want to hold them and watch em and (for me at least) protect them with all your heart.
I hope you watch the movie and can give a review on it and enjoy it as much as I do! More people should watch this movie honestly.
Sebastian J Cricket. The dogfish even has such an awesome and authentic design that kinda reminds me of those medieval illustrations of sea monsters on maps.
Del Toro crew done it such topnotch job!
Literally, was so Shocked it came out so incredible! I loved the story, the animation. It absolutely brings Disney to shame!
Not even 5 years, they worked on that movie for 15 years! :D it's amazing, with all the detail put into everything. You can really see they care about that movie.. unlike disneys version
Yeah, del toro said he always wanted (for many years) to do HIS version of Pinocchio, his darker version! And well I must say it came out absolutely brilliant & beautiful! Great unique film. I knew it would be good and interesting af cause it's Del Toro but daamn it was even better than I thought, just positively surprised
4:48 "Also, in the scene where his nose grows, instead of it fully being about learning a lesson that lying is bad, now he instead uses his growing nose as a means to get the key and escape."
So they even ripped off of Shrek 2?
Pinocchio is gonna be a great president for Italia, its all i can think after seeing that scene
Also it’s implied that Pinocchio goes with the fox because he was bullied, rather than because he was naive and gullible. In the original, Pinocchio never gets to school and the fox convinces him that school is for chumps and that being an actor is better. In the remake, Pinocchio is bullied and kicked out of school because he’s a puppet, and then goes with the fox. It totally destroys the message of the story from the start.
Fits with the current, woke, perpetual victimhood complex though, right?
It wasn't Pinocchio's poor choices, it was puppet discriminations I tells ya!
THIS 👍
Sounds like an alternate universe where he sucefully goes to school before meeting the fox 🤣
The new Disney writers have the intelligence of a 3rd grader. They don't realize character flaws and/or arcs make a character more relatable and interesting.
Just like how they ruined the many messages of this movie
Remember kids if you got bullied just leave school instead of addressing the problem or trying to ignore it just leave school
The fact that Disney completely undermines the message of the original is painful. At this point, they’re completely disrespecting their legacy.
It was all foreshadowed when Pinocchio literally studied and smelled a pile of shit
@time to leave earth what would happen if i click
pinocchio was one of my favorite movies when i was a kid and it did a great job at me hating beer and smoking, and being scared of donkeys

The worst part is... Pinnochio has proved it can be done in Live action. There's an amazing 2019 Italian film of Pinnochio, and the make up they use for the boy Is INCREDIBLE. The fact that Disney Made something less creative than a low budget (only $15 million) production, is depressant.
theres also an italian live action miniseries from 1972 and it's great, it's a shame that (at least to my knowledge) it's not known internationally
Bellissimo quel film, con Roberto Benigni che interpreta Geppetto, poi.
Great movie. Also Roberto Benigni (the guy from Life Is Beautiful) plays Geppetto
is that the one that has this REALLY scary scene of Pinocchio becoming like wood? I specifically remember a scene like that and scared the hell outta me.
Edit - oh NV I think that was from Adventures of Pinocchio. Oof. Nightmare inducing
Disney technically had some practice with Once Upon a Time.
Imagine having the audacity to create a live-action remake that somehow manages to look more “wooden” than the original animated movie. This was so insultingly bad! On a side note, I am enthusiastic about Del Torro Pinocchio coming to Netflix. The animation itself already makes it worth watching. It looks beautiful and feels like there's actual heart and care put into it.

Haha, I get it!
After seeing the vibrant and colorful love letter to Italy that was Luca, perhaps the most disappointing aspect to me was seeing how soulless and dreary this Pinocchio’s Italy is. Even in the 1940 animation, the backdrops themselves seemed to come to life on canvas. It’s sad to me that if I didn’t know this was set in Italy, I would have never known wherever this sad, grey village takes place in.
Even the most generic vaguely European Middle Ages village from the most generic Isekai anime is crafted with more personality than the village in this film.
The fact this movie used a gag from Shrek, for Pinocchio to get the key while he’s in the cage, should tell you everything about this movie.
About the donkey-beer thing, when I was 4 I accidently drank a sip of my dad's hard lemonade thinking it was normal lemonade. I then ran from my neighbors house to my house sobbing thinking I would turn into a donkey. Then I never drank any alcohol until I was 21 to make a point to my dad. So, yeah, the consequence thing definitely does work
Now imagine kids today thinking the same thing but with root beer instead. Sounds like an unintentional consequence on Disney’s part
It’s just missed opportunity not including those elements. Disappointing

... Huh, I guess it is. Well neither of them are wrong.
Well, the boys smoking cigars wasn’t in the original Collodi novel. It’s *exclusive* to the Disney version. Plus, there are other ways to show the boys’ actions in Pleasure Island as immoral without having to show them smoking.
Fun fact. I remember watching on the TV a version made like 5-7 years ago and even if you could clearly see it wasn't from a big studio that could produce a perfectly realistic puppet with shadows or texture they still made a better job with the CGI with a simple trick : everytime an actor was holding Pinocchio I remember it was litteraly a real puppet.
And also the fox and cat were not CGI but instead a human lady wearing fox fur and a guy with dark clothes and honestly they kinda gave me a funny Jessie and James vibes.
And (another fact) I'm 100% convinced the same studio made an obscure version of puss in boots and again it had the same "We don't have as much money as Disney but we have ideas" vibes and the same colours/movie style. This time the cat started with a REAL cat and as soon as he put the boots he transformed into a human actor wearing car ears and moustache always referring himself as a cat and you could totally see the actor had a fun time playing the cat.
Any idea where I can watch that version

I'm Italian: Pinocchio is very important for us in Italy. It makes me sad that a magnificent tale like this has been ruined this bad by some marketing shit that Disney wants us too see and purchase. When you have time I suggest you to read the original Pinocchio book by Collodi, I'm sure you'll have a great time with that.
I think the original had Pinocchio getting robbed, threatened, jailed, turned into a donkey and dismembered. And I think the idea of fairytales being made for kids yet treating the readers like decent human beings instead of underdeveloped ones made me happy.
There is a version of Pinocchio that comes out in December which is directed by Guillermo Del Toro (the director of Pan's Labyrinth) and is stop motion as well. This one seems very promising and the trailer looks gorgeous

Pinocchio's CGI reminds me of Pixar's Tin Toy. And considering that was a CGI experiment in the late 80's, that's one heck of an underachievement.
4:32, as someone who unfortunately watched this movie. Pinocchio's transformation into a donkey is stopped because he said something like "i can't run away and join the circus with you! i have to save my father!!" and it just.... stops....? like ZERO tension, absolutely no struggle, just a throwaway line to solve what was supposed to be an important plotline. he speaks the entire time like it's a dora episode.
Because in the original movie, he didn't actually turn into a full on donkey-
He only grew some donkey ears and tail and boom that's it, you got yourself a wooden living donkey Puppet hybrid
But fr he never really turned into a full donkey in the original film
@@baldisbasics6387 I think it’s because Pinocchio, while he joined in the bad stuff the “stupid little boys” were doing at Pleasure Island like getting into brawls, vandalizing and smoking and drinking beer, he wasn’t as malicious or mischievous as the other boys, so he slowly transformed instead of instantaneously like Lampwick. I think the way a boy turns into a donkey, or jacka** , depends on how high their level of bad behavior is. If it’s really high, they completely transform and lose their voice, but if it’s low or medium, they slowly transform by just growing ears, tail and braying or even possibly having their heads change too. I think this could explain how there could be a few boys while completely transformed are able to still maintain their speaking abilities. This is just my theory or idea of how the magic of Pleasure Island works and how Pinocchio isn’t completely transformed and other boys completely transformed can still talk.
The thing that bothered me the most was the fact that they showed Pinocchio's school and them kicking him out. He actively chose to listen to Jiminy by going to class instead of chasing fame, but then gets punished for it - so of course he chooses to go with the fox... because what the hell else was he gonna do? It removes Pinocchio's own choice to make a bad call and suffer the consequences - trashing the whole theme of the story

What made the original 1940 Pinnochio film special is that it came right after Snow White, the first feature-length animated movie. Pinnochio was Disney saying "well we proved we can do it and do it well, now let's show em what else we can do!" And because of that, the film is beautiful and well-animated, full of whimsy and wonder. There's a reason "When You Wish Upon A Star" is the theme of Disney as a whole: one of Walt Disney's greatest virtues was his passion for fantasy, and his desire to make dreams and imagination come to life, and Pinnochio is probably one of the best exemplars of that virtue.
Remembering that, just makes me want burn every copy that exist from this remake

Aye, as much as I don't necessarily view Disney in the best light due to some of his ruthless business practices, I will say that he had a burning passion that eclipsed many animators, especially animators from our time. He had his dream, ambition, and passion driving his projects to becoming what they are, and I respect that drive towards making Disney as big a name as it is.

Disney Pinocchio:🤓
DreamWorks Pinocchio (Shrek):🗿🍷
Pinocchio totally CAN be made in live action. there's an italian adaptation of it made in 2019 and it's hauntingly beautiful. the humanoid characters still look amazing in cgi, the makeup for pinocchio looks like it's made of real wood, literally every character is spot on. it's a shame it was never exported outside of Italy. as an italian I tend to dislike stuff made here because the films here tend to be boring and cheap, but this genuinely made into my fav films list.
also, by the way you spoke abt stuff it seems like you don't know, but Pinocchio was originally an italian comic strip so there's not that much of an "italian stereotype" when the character itself was made by an italian lol /lh
But isn't cgi still animation?
What's the point of a live action if you're going to animate your main characters?
The 2019 Pinocchio was actually released in the U.S. many months ago.
if anyone ask it on Amazon prime also the fox dude are human in this one but you get a different type of creature showing up to make up for that
Completamente d'accordo!
Hey I remember that one. The donkey scene was haunting
It’s impressive how many bad live action remakes Disney is making lately
It's like they are actively trying to make the worst of the worst in these live actions remakes. Like, you have to TRY to make a live action this bad.
At least The Jungle Book Remake is actually pretty good.
@@liamphibia That’s the only one worth watching. But that one’s actually really good

Least cruella was decent
You know that awkward stage where Disney made a bunch of terrible sequels to classics.
I think we are in that stage again now, except instead of just sequels, it’s ALSO reboots
At least some of the sequels were legitimately good or passable and were still animated. These remakes (for the most part) are just bad.

7:30 Did Pinocchio REALLY just sniff sh*t!? 0_-
There's a scene near the end where Gepetto "dies" and Pinocchio cries over him while humming When You Wish Upon A Star. I turned to my friend and joked "Watch, he's gonna shed a single tear and it's gonna land on Gepetto's cheek and bring him back to life"
And then _literally that exact thing happened as I was talking._ When I tell you we _screamed--!_
The icing on the cake is, I swear that whole sequence was SHOT-FOR-SHOT IDENTICAL to the same scene in Tangled. Like, same angles and everything, the tear lands in the same spot on his cheek, it was unbelievable.
Tbh, the way Eugene comes back to life is my biggest problem with Tangled, even as a big fan of that movie. It’s so dues ex machina it hurts. But they couldn’t find any other way to revive him, so…
But yeah, I hate how Disney lazily copied the scene like that? I will never watch this movie and most other live action remakes (well besides Cinderella, that’s pretty much one of the only ones I’m fine with existing).
@@KazuhaEien i get the feeling they wanted to do a live action version of cinderella simply because they retold the story, then when the money came they thought "hey, we could remake all the other movies". cinderella 2016 was not a shot for shot remake like the other live action movies. it was just built around the scenes necessary to tell the story and diverged on the rest. it was unique enough to stand on its own. the other movies are so redundant you are better off just watching the original
The same scene also happened in Pinocchio: A True Story.
I’m gonna let that one sink in for ya
@@drawingwinxstyle9193 beauty and beast live action is better, story-wise.
If that was me watching the movie, I probably wouldve burst out laughing, not just due to the sheer AUDACITY that this remake was trying to make you feel SOMETHING for this mock version of Pinocchio character, but because I can't stop thinking of Saberspark's theory that this movie is the product of Tom Hank's character from "Cast Away" having a fever dream while knocked out on his raft trying to get home🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My biggest issue with this remake is they changed events related to the story in ways that ruin the overall message. Pinocchio in the original film is convinced to join the puppet show instead of going to school. This is why he faces the consequences of his actions. In this movie he actually makes it to school, defeating the purpose of the life lesson. When Pinocchio goes to Pleasure Island he indulges in smoking and even implies he was breaking things with an axe. He's then transformed into a donkey which was a metaphor for saying he was being a jackass. In contrast in this movie he refused to break anything, there weren't any cigars, and kids drinking root beer is hardly a problem. Once again this movie missed the true purpose of why the scene worked in the original. Being turned into a half donkey in this movie isn't justified.
The whole point of the original film is that Pinocchio doesn't know right from wrong and he's easily lead astray. And when he makes the wrong choices there are consequences for his actions. These experiences are meant to build his character into an individual that learned from his mistakes and eventually chooses to do the right thing. But in this movie he's already trying to do the right thing all along. Sure, he's easily convinced to do the wrong thing a few times almost choosing not to go to school, but Jiminy catches up with him convincing Pinocchio to go to school before he could complete his bad decision. Then there's the time where he selflessly put Geppetto before the puppet show and his donkey ears and tail vanish. The problem with this scene is it has no meaning because he never really tried to do anything wrong in the first place. When the plot is about learning from your mistakes and then the movie doesn't allow you to make them in the first place, you have failed to make a faithful adaptation.

The running question of Disney Remakes is “Who genuinely asked for these?”
Cause last I checked not a whole lot of people are asking for these remakes.
I think the issue is that, despite no one claiming to want these live action movies, people still go see them out of curiosity. If these movies make money, Disney will continue to make them.
I don't think anyone is. No one asked for them. If you'd said when it started. Hey. Disney cartoon fans. Do you want Disney to make live action versions of cartoons?
They'd be like. Why would I want that? How would you even do it? Why would you do it? Surely the cartoons are better. More flexible.
They just decided to go insane and trash their own reputation.
And kept making ever more awful films and lowering the budget when they didn't work.

@@jeffreygao3956 the book called it "Il Mostruoso Pescecane", it's like a giant shark, but Collodi is never clear about that.
Monstro the Whale was definitely a big misstep in the 1940 cartoon. Whales never did anything to deserve this kind of demonization.

She was a ballerina puppet who definitely couldn't stand on her own, so the two help each other dance again while keeping the SENTIENT PUPPET hidden from Stromboli, eventually taking over the caravan and driving away happily together. Nah none of it make sense. They added the girl i bet to make some kind of point on representation since there are no females other than the fairy in the original story, and to add racial inclusion to the story. I've been done with Disney for a long time now. They've made it very clear that they couldn't care less about their reputation and the timeless movies that made them who they are today.
Not only do they disregard their old movies as no longer good enough, but they actively try to villify them as 'outdated' or 'problematic' material (Which in some cases, is true. Their WW2 propaganda for example.) Something that tickles the fancy of their zoomer audience.
We can't have bad things happen to our protagonists anymore, there's no room for growth, no room for lessons or morals, no room for character development arcs. No no no. That's too much for general audiences to handle.
All Disney cares about now is making watered down, easily digestible product- I mean 'movies' based on nostalgic IPs that ultimately leave no impact on the viewer and exist solely to make money and offend as few people as humanly possible.
As a result, you end up with empty shells of what were once masterpieces of film that will be forgotten just as quickly as they came out.

@@gmdraws1461 at least it makes sense for them to be live action adaptations rather than Pinocchio, the little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, etc.
Disney seems to keep worrying about making they're characters be people who need to improve cause then "they're flawed and that's bad" like buzz in lightyear. But the biggest reason people get attached to characters is cause we can relate with their flaws, if you just make your characters "good and nice and victims" all the time there's no arc, no story, and people can't find ways to relate or get invested! It's barely even a story if it's just "this nice person has stuff happen then other stuff saves them".
Disney's Pinnochio was the very first movie I ever owned back when I was about five, and I was so proud. It was sumptuously colourful, cheerily whimsical, bone-chillingly terrifying and heartwarming. And this movie was made in 1940! Nearing a century old, and it still holds up remarkably well. It didn't need a remake. *No* vintage Disney movie needs a remake, because they'll never equal what came before.
Imagine it’s all thx to the movie that every1 stop think about WWII
The first problem with all these remakes is this: the beats are all there, but the rhythm is all off. The beat is the bare skeleton structure of the song. Rhythm is how the song is built on that structure. Film is the same way, but with scripts. If that skeletal structure is off kilter, then the entire thing is thrown off. You can only do so much with a bad script. Everything is THERE structurally. But it's the pacing that's throwing everything off. The donkey scene is a great example of completely missing the mark, as well as the stampede scene.
The second problem with the remakes, the ones that don't at least ATTEMPT to do new things, is that they hinge on your knowledge of the original to get that emotional payoff. BUT even THEN, the other problem within that, is they fast travel to the highlight vs having proper buildup. Like look at Nala reuniting with Simba, Aladdin's introduction song "One Jump Ahead", Mulan's Decision, the West Wing incident. The scenes start out fine, but as they go on it just fumbles entirely. You notice something just feels off. And that's why that payoff isn't there. Not just because you've seen it before, but because you feel like you missed the point. And the BUILDUP is what MAKES that highlight....A HIGHLIGHT. It's screenwriting 101.
Some of the remakes honestly aren't BAD, _Beauty and the Beast,_ _Aladdin,_ and _The Jungle Book_ are at least passible to good. They attempt to do new things, or in _The Jungle Book's_ case, is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT from the original animation. With movies like _Pinocchio_ ones that had BAD box office returns originally, ones that are pretty old from the 40s, 50s maybe 60s...The ones people aren't as familiar with perhaps...You'd think this would be a good opportunity for Disney to do something new with the story. They did it with _The Jungle Book_ and it worked.
Here's my advice to Disney since it's clear they're not gonna stop: take a REALLY old animated film, and upgrade it. Don't just do SOME new things to try and fix past criticisms cause then that might just create new problems. Don't just copy and paste. I'll keep repeating it: Live action and animation are ENTIRELY DIFFERENT MEDIUMS. Animation can do things live action can only dream of. Live action has limitations, but work around those. Get creative. Film is a visual medium, use that to your advantage.
“Hey now! There was a lot of logic and thought put into this post. Stop that! We’re trying to make money!”

The best live action remake is the Cinderella remake.
It adds to the original film’s story in a satisfying way, like giving Prince Charming a deeper character compared to the 1950 version. It also actually puts the live action/cgi to good use, giving a beautiful new take on Cinderella’s ballroom dress.
@@CGFillertext I will have to counter that with a disagree, because the ending is trash. And it kinda ruins the rest of the movie. In the original, SHE WORKS for her freedom. She bangs on the door, she pulls on the doorknob. She has her animal friends help. In the remake? SHE SPINS AROUND WHIMSICALLY ACCEPTING HER FATE TO REMAIN IN AN ABUSIVE A__ HOUSE. What.
What the fck. Walt would be insulted. Since that was his favorite story, as he felt a connection with Cinderella.
@@TheRibottoStudios didn’t she leave with the Prince and then the Tremaines flee the country never to return, though?
I'm not a film student, but everything you said about pacing is true. I found this out when I watched the Code Geass movies (basically, a bunch of episodes from a beloved anime spliced together with some scenes removed.) The story, animation, voice acting, was all the same. All that changed was the pacing. And that was enough to downgrade my favorite anime of all time into some mediocre junk.
If Disney wants to bury the message this movie taught me growing up, then I will retaliate by smoking and drinking (even more) heavily.
Fun fact: in the original tale, Gepetto got eaten by a shark instead of a whale. It didn't make sense since he was bitten and chewed. But there was a myth at that time that drinking plain water while eating fish caused them to revive in your stomach so it made sense for Gepetto to be revived after being digested at that time.
People in the 40's were smarter so Disney changed it to a whale. Whales do have straw like teeth so it was possible for him to stay alive in the stomach of such beast.
BUT what makes no fucking sense is this glass generation pampering by literally stealing the usage of pinocchio lying depicted in Shrek and not rewarding him by turning him into a real boy.
Seriously, if you damn trans don't work to actually transition at all, I am going to call you for your fucking cis gender. At least crossdress at minimum
Some do. The bigger baleen whales don't have teeth. Some others, like sperm whales, do have teeth.
It's gonna get much worse when the live-action Little Mermaid gets released.
Halley Bailey is not one of the major problems (though I think choosing/being chosen for that role is not a great jump start for an acting career), but I have a bad feeling that they will reduce Ariel's character into the same treatment like they did with Jasmine, Mulan, Belle, Aurora, and Cinderella.
Actually, Jasmine was pretty alright. Though I see what your getting at.
@@empresssk no but Disney loves to fck over their actors in the remakes

Nice RickRoll
Shrek: For five minutes, could you not ruin our childhoods? FOR FIVE MINUTES!!
There was a live action Pinocchio in '96 that was really weird in that way 90s movies were, ridiculously genuine and emotional, but it was actually quite beautiful in a strange and almost frightening way. The puppet was a complicated animatronic made by Jim Henson's company so it came across as really cool and interesting. It had a lot of practical effects that made it stand out, more than the CGI monstrosity that counts somehow as "live action" in Disney's eyes.
Edit: The whale was freaking great, also a totally practical set
And even if they still planned to cgi Pinocchio in they could’ve used a blank green screen puppet for Tom Hanks to grab
I grew up watching the 96 version, and I still go back and re-visit it. It's honestly a really good version imo. Weird that Rob Schneider is in it though
@@louweasel7903 LOL, true 😅
I second this, it actually did a few things BETTER than the remake:
1) While the lying nose is used as a "Chekhov's Gun", the scene at school still teaches Pinocchio that lying is bad because he refused to admit he hit Lampwick, him using the nose to get out of the whale happens MUCH LATER and it's more to show that Pinocchio has grown smarter and more resourceful, instead of him being a snarky sue who immediately takes advantage of the nose and not really learning anything about lying.
2) Oh yeah, Pinocchio gets expelled at school BECAUSE he was troublesome, not over some "fantastic racism" reason that is never flashed out or explored in this remake despite being something neither the book or the original 1940 film had.
3) ALL the villains get their comeuppance, unlike this remake where only Stromboli gets arrested but meanwhile the objectively WORSE and more evil Coachman and his Pleasure Island are left untouched and the Fox and the Cat are still karma Houdinis that get away with screwing over Pinocchio.
4) It's actually a good looking film with actors that look like they give a shit, instead of being OVERLY lit like this ugly sad mess of a Disney remake. Oh, and there's no toilet humor with Pinocchio stopping to observe poop on the street. (seriously, the 1940 film is a blueprint for greatness, and they added that in a "new and improved" remake. Fuck modern Disney XP)
@@DeepEye1994 You seriously hit the nail on the head. The Adventures of Pinocchio (1996) is a superior movie by far.
I also like how different it is from the disney one in terms of story. The main beats are the same but it feels like there’s so much more to it as well
The execution of the story and dialogues in this movie just made Roberto Benigni's live-action movie a masterpiece
I LOVED the pleasure island scenes as a kid. I was so sad when I saw how toned-down Disney made it.
When Pinocchio stoped to smell shit, that’s when I knew this was one of the worst things Disney has made in a while. Can they just stop being so safe and greedy?
exactly! that part made me cringe and i just knew how it will go on from there
First Lion King now this? What is it with the Disney remakes and shit?
@@jonathankent1517 Ikr I expect those jokes from illumination movies and short runtime low effort cartoons
B-but look at the fairy, look how brave, diverse and woke they are! What do you want more than that? So many silly woke people fall for this cheep stunt.
Lol, they did that just to get some publicity and to hide under the pretext that you're a racist if you don't like this lame movie.
@@julimibz how is that being racist ☠️? we didnt say anything about her race, we just think its lame that they added new characters so disney can have more movie runtime and didnt stick with the story. Lastly, what was with the “stuttering” ? We’re not roleplaying ☠️
The movie made me laugh one single time. Right at the end when Tom Hanks 'dies'. Hearing Pinocchio sing 'When You Wish Upon a Star' and healing him with his magic tears quite literally made me burst out laughing. I have never watched anything so utterly ridiculous from Disney in my life!
For real I thought it was a parody of Flynn's resurrection scene from Tangled. I guess Disney ran out of ideas. 😂
im glad im not the only one lmao
yes I was actually quite disappointed by this part
@@anonview oh lol XD
@@anonview I literally turned to my mom after the film was finished and showed her the Flynn resurrection scene, flabbergasted about how they are plagiarizing from their own IPS
Whoa, whoa whoa.... you're ranking all 60 Disney films?! Ahh, I'm so excited!
I watch del toros Pinocchio in the theater yesterday and it was absolutely incredible in every way, I truly hope you do a review of it to see how it compares to this one
The horror never ends.
So baby now you feel like number one
Are you talking about bad live action remakes or bad Pinocchio films?
