soon
same here! i love how they love food and their videos are perfectly edited
same
before the year ends I want you both to know that finding you on UA-cam has been the best thing that has happened to me this year. you both have changed my life. I feel more comfortable being a vegan and just look forward to eating especially knowing no animals will be harmed and it'll be yummy. you both are inspiring individuals w wonderful spirits and hearts. Lauren you are amazing, you've provided a genuine person for me to admire as a woman and have shown us strength, growth, along with vulnerability. you also have perfect hair doll. lol. thank you for those days I know you're exhausted but you still post a video, for vloging (which I know it's a hassle), and for letting us asking you interesting to obnoxious questions. lol. THANK YOU!!!
awww girl... I am actually crying reading this. I think I am getting my period (this is Lauren obvs haha) BUT it's also very touching. Thanks for sharing that here and for letting us know. It means a lot and you're the reason we want to always post videos. How long have you been vegan? SO HAPPY for you xo thank you and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
hot for food it'll be a year March 3rd!! you're welcome! lol
Congrats.. I am a year on Feb. 14 !! How awesome.
Being vegan it's such an awesome expierence in so many ways. You get to know awesome new food, new people and just have a much better life. That's exactly what we try to achieve doing our vegan recipes videos, people like you who show how much power there is in youtube videos!💪🏽😁
AGREED. Well said, lady!
I'm not vegan but see my self slowly working in that direction. Finding this channel has made the idea of not eating meat seem so much more possible. I've made a few recipes for my fiance and even he cant tell the difference and really enjoys it! So thanks for sharing such awesome recipes. I think we can all say we really appreciate it!
YAAY! That's amazing and all we hope for! Happy to hear you're making some small steps! xo

yyyaaaayyy
I think the reason John keeps winning is because he chooses simple recipes with easily accessible ingredients, while Lauren likes to go the extra mile and do something very interesting that requires a bit more effort with ingredients that are harder to find. Still, I loved both the recipes and they both looked amazing!
I'll be honest. I've voted for John on the last three challenges, but Lauren's recipe this go 'round looks so tasty! I hope those sunchokes aren't hard to find. I'm going to try this dish and bring it to my NYE get together. So glad my best friend just turned vegan. We can smash these dishes together!
CharyJay i'm with you for this challenge. I think Lauren's better!
CharyJay hey charyjay! I love your channel! ❤️
CharyJay You know we're gonna have to see you do this on your channel 😜
When John said, "We're good" I burst out laughing. So true, though!
The Jerusalem artichoke, also called sunroot, sunchoke, earth apple or topinambour, is a species of sunflower native to eastern North America, and found from eastern Canada and Maine west to North Dakota, and south to northern Florida and Texas.
BTW my vote Lauren, yummy!
Whitney So it has nothing to do with Jerusalem? Classic naming.
I love that it's competitive but you are always so polite and complimentary to each other :)
Lei Anz I love that about them too! 😀👌
Hahah the face you made when you first tried the marinade XD They both look AMAZING! Also I'm glad you boiled those sunchokes beforehand cause they are notorious for making ya gassy. Haha. 🙈💨
Also both of you have the same look when you try something good ahha. It's awesome XD
Today's challenge is so hard to choose! that beer cheese dip looks soooo good. i think this challenge series has done amazing things for John to blossom as a cook. I love yo guys!!!!
I will agree with you there... since I def cook more often than him!
this might be the best battle you have done. I can't choose what to make first... but I did vote!
That dip looks amazing but, wow, the jerk chicken was the winner. So creative. You guys are the best.
thanks for watching
Ok johns face when Lauren first tries his dip and says "it's outstanding" is so cute! Such pride hahaha
Haha both of yalls reaction to your own dishes is hilarious :)!
"Maybe I'm a little Jamaican inside." I love it! You guys are awesome! 😊
been vegan for 5 months now and you two have been such a big part of it. thank you for what you do, can't wait for the cookbook. your cander and lovely spirit keep me coming back for more. God bless and here's to a prosperous ans fruitful 2017. much love 💕🍏
lol john's comment "were good! yeah were good at this!" hilarious. love your channel.
Love to watch you guys to offset those super healthy (can-I-replace-the-oil) vegan channels. Haha
Keep it up!! ❤🔥
They both look delicious but oh my goodness Lauren's
I remember when this came out, I rewatched it over and over again, can't believe it's been 7 years already!
pretty crazy!
This honestly had to be the hardest one to pick i swear, i want both of these dishes soooooooo much
Dayyyum, I didn't expect this to look so delish. Aaaah, I can't decide!
"We're good at this." Best commentary on the video! I cannot wait to make that beer and cheddar dip for the super bowl this year!.
haha honestly I can't vote anymore your dishes both turn out so amazing looking everytime
You guys make it really hard to vote... thanks for making all the recipe videos!
I could not find sunchokes for the life of me, but I went ahead and tried this recipe with some jackfruit! Still tasted amazing. Hopefully I can get my hands on some sunchokes soon because your version looks much better!
so just teh sauce on jackfruit? That would also be good! Someone used potatoes, but those might be a bit mushier.
yes! I was also thinking of trying this recipe using yucca in the future because I'm more familiar with it and I think the consistency will be similar to the sunchoke.
I can not decide who did it better! you both did amazing.
I love the good vibes in this video
That jerk though!!! I have to find that root thing, it looked sooo good. Lauren killed this one
Best challenge I've seen from hot for food! Way to end the year with a bang!
Love you guys. Laura's got my vote. new veggie- can't wait to try
Who's Laura? ;)
And, you think Chanea is talking about you? Self-important much? jk
omg. my phone auto corrected lol. so sorry Lauren ❤
lol, surrrrrre, a likely story. jk
I'm just messing with you. Lauren seems chill...I think we can safely assume she understands and didn't take the misnomer personally. But, even if she did, it wouldn't be your fault, it'd be hers for not being chill. ;)
Your OG cheese dip, ranch, buffalo wings, and apple spice cake are the favorites among my non-vegan friends. I get asked to make that stuff all of the time. You guys always knock it out of the park. I haven't ever been failed by choosing a HFF recipe!!!
John: "We're really good at this..." lol 😂 I'll second that! Both look amazing, can't wait to make them.
Why do I always watch these when I'm hungry?!!?!?
even if you aren't hungry it will make you hungry, I learned to always watch their videos with snacks next to me :D
I'll have to start doing that XD
Hungry is the only way to watch these! I watched this one on a full stomach and wasn't feeling either until the 7:46 mark.
I love how excited you both get about each other's dishes.
Every time I make your recipes it gets eaten so fast and thoroughly enjoyed. Pictures become an after thought.
Just wanted to let you know that your thanksgiving roast made my Xmas. Thanks!
Omg. I am a huge queso fan but... Damn. What Lauren made looks so amazing.
I'm not even vegan but you guys have me trying out your recipes. They're so delicious.
My mouth is watering both dishes look delicious!
The last (but best) challenge for 2016! You had me at those rice and peas - the spiced rum jerk sunchokes just took it to another level. Ready for 2017!!
you both are killing it! love both recipes but I had to go with Lauren on this one because of the use of a new ingredient. good job!
"I have to eat before we eat" ... It's like she's speaking directly to my heart.
John's beer and cheddar dip looks like the PERFECT New Years recipe. I super wanna try it.
Oh my god that dip is making my mouth water! Thank you for blessing us with this.
"We're good. We're good at this." LOL John is awesome!!
You guys have truly outdone yourself lol I'm so incredibly impressed
awww thank you so much for watching!
this is the BEST challenge video yet. You have no udea how much I wish I was in that kitchen stuffing my fave with both dishes
I got my Carnivore father hooked on your videos and now we try and make one of your episodes every Sunday and he LOVES it !! He also watches your vids for fun. These are our favorite videos for sure. He's even going to stop eating meat and stick to fish. I think you guys are helping him slowly transition to veganism!!
they are both SOOOOO different and look both so delicious i have nO IDEA WHO TO VOTE FOR. good job guys.
This is one of my favorite channels. You two are so creative and original.
You guys are truly amazing. I am glued to the screen when you cook. Don't know how you come up with such delicious recipes, but I love them all.
Alright, request: I lift weights and get in a ton of protein, but it's not always easy vegan-style. Seitan, soy protein, pasta, tofu. If you guys can come up with high-protein recipes, I would be forever in your gratitude.
Wow! Lauren you really knocked it out of the park with this one! You can just tell it's soooo goood!
Oh, holy cow, it's hard to pick a winner! I'm from Wisconsin, land of beer cheese products and I grew up eating more Sunchokes than I want to think about because my Mother grew them. They absolutely took over her garden! Congrats you two, both these recipes sound delicious ;)
thanks Catherine!!!! try making both :D hope you like them
I definitely will, thanks :)
You guuuuuys! These both look INCREDIBLE!
Your guys reactions killed me 😂 You guys are good at this, so thank you for making amazing food. ❤
Lauren wins for creativity: Excellent use of a weird ingredient with the Jerusalem artichokes/sunchokes, and I like the idea of "sauteeing" the aromatics in coconut milk. John's carbtastic contribution is sure to help me through the dark days of January, though ; ) TFP!
laurens got my vote definitely, i love sunchokes! i always eat them raw in slices with orange slices and walnuts, but its great to see another way to cook them :)
Love you guys, just makes me smile watching your vids!
You guys ROCK! Y'all make it harder and harder to pick only one. I am totally obsessed with this channel 😍
I just made the spiced rum jerk marinade for fried sunchokes served with jamaican style rice & beans for my Boyfriend (He is only a couple months vegetarian and very picky about meat alternatives + certain ingredients.) We loved it. We try to be as gluten free and try to avoid process sugars as much as possible, so I used agave syrup and did not put spiced rum but rather up w water + more apple cider vinegar. The sunchokes didn't crisp up as nice/I boiled them too long but still super yummy.
Oh ya you gotta be careful with the boiling time and that will vary based on the size of the chokes!
After voting for John the last couple of times you definitely brought it back this time Lauren! I want to try that rub with a cauliflower steak!
omg these both look SO GOOD i'm literally drooling.
That beer cheese looks awesome but Lauren takes the cake in this challenge!! I can't wait to try both🤗
You two are so cute! It's videos like these that just get me PUMPED to get in the kitchen haha
awesome! Thank you so much and happy cooking
Loved this video! You both are very talented!
I'm making that cheezy beer bread bowl for new years! They both look fantastic!
Can we skip 2017 and get straight to 2018 so we can get that cookbook?
IKR! :/ hahaha
I'm sure it's gonna be awesome. Hope we can do one with our recipes one day!😊🌱
I've already loved your regular nachos dip and make it all the time so I'm going to vote for John because this is the souped-up version of it!
Jesus!!!! They both look F'n delicious!!! Can't wait to try them!! Ty for sharing 😁
I don't know which to choose! 😩🤔 they both look AMAZING!
I was just about to comment "please consider to make a cook book"! I'm so excited!! 😍
This year has been such a roller coaster ride tbh and your videos are such a breath of fresh air. Much appreciation and admiration for everything you do and thank you for showing the world that vegan does not mean bowls of kale and green smoothies. You're such an inspiration and you both have beautiful spirits and are SO FUN TO WATCH. I hope you have an awesome New Years and keep them videos coming! Love you guys!
Both were great! I made the beer cheese dip last night and the sunchokes tonight (I subbed potatoes for sunchokes since my small town doesn't ever have sunchokes) and I wasn't sure which one I liked best, so I let my husband vote, and he voted for the sunchokes. Thanks for the great recipes!
omg you're so awesome! Glad you made both. Thank you!
I'm cracking up at your guys' reactions to you food!--that feeling when your food tastes bomb😂love you guys! I'm gonna try both of these
Love your channel!!! I would love you guys to do a beginner vegan series. One with ingredients that are readily available and with no high speed blender or food processor. Just some super simple easy recipes for someone wanting to get started. 😊
So, so great this time! There is a place back home, (midwest US) that is famous for their beer cheese soup, they top it with popcorn. I had a craving for it recently and what do you know? John has veganized it FOR me=) I voted for Lauren's dish though for the complexity and how adventurous and I am sure delish it is!! This is about your best challenge ever, maybe the best. I have seen them all. My husband and I do the same thing when we cook too--ooooh we are so good! Love you guys and thanks for sharing!
Both of the new dishes look amazing! I'm not even vegan, only vegetarian, but you're recipes are just great and so inspiring! I also love to watch your videos, cause you're always so natural and funny in them, not like those stiff chefs on the TV :D Also, it was great to see you making pierogies recently, it really made so happy as I'm Polish and that's my traditional food. ;)
I voted for Lauren :) by the way I made those ceviche tostadas with hearts of palm and it was so amazing, I think especially because I marinated them for about 3 days. I didn't spiralize the squash or add cashew sour cream but there was so much flavor there was no need. Thank you so much!!
YAAAY! Thanks!
you guys are so much fun to watch...I actually laughed when John said "we're gooood!" twice XD (you are)
favourite challenge so far but I'm sad neither of you used the stoli because that's my life essence.. LOVE YOU GUYS! Happy new year and thank you for being your incredible selves. y'all have changed a lot of lives xxxx
you guys always out do yourself in every video. love, love, love!
Both are of you are awesome, great people. Loved cooking with you this year. ❤
Holy shit, it's like Sophie's choice trying to pick this time around. Had to go with the Sunchoke though, as I've never seen that before and OMG it looked amazing! Happy New Year guys, thanks for all the food inspiration, life inspiration and daggy jokes. Hope the new year brings a whole lot of wonderful your way, much love xx
thank you so much for ALL your love and support Elle xo Happy New Year!
These both look awesome but I gotta give it to Lauren this time- super creative!!
Ummm Lauren you killed that shit hands down 😍😍😍! I'm Jamaican, and cannot wait to try jerk chicken that way
You are contributing in changing the world to a better one! Can't wait you reach 1 million of Subscribers and even more. I will keep sharing you. A big hug from germany/italy/uae
THANK YOU so much for spreading the world
This was really fun to watch!!! can't wait for the cookbook!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!
Binge watching these challenge videos in 2021
Oh my gosh you guys definitely have to do a challenge while you're drinking it would be hilarious!
Ya'll are just so cute and skilled in the culinary arts, lol.
I'm done with 2016 and y'all just made me want it to last just long enough to make both of these.
AND I looking foward to the cookbook, I'll buy it immediatly when it come out (and even a second time if it come out in my country ! You deserve it !). I cooked so many of your recipes and everyone at my place LOVED every single one of them ! It's so much easier to live with non-vegan when they crave your vegan cooking :p
Hard to choose! Been looking for sunchoke recipes tho. Gonna try to make both
Johns looks great, but Lauren really outdid herself this time 😉 have a happy new year you guys! Thanks for all the yummy recipes💚
Haha now this is my kind of challenge!
Great video guys 😄
hahaha john: we are good! :) I love your style my husband and I have a few of your recipes written in our family staple recipe journal that we've been working on for 8 years. your tofu scramble and cauliflower wings are weekly staples in our home. i cam wait for your cookbook!
I used to grow sunchokes,it's basically a sunflower plant, but you use the root, not the flower head with seeds.
I know you're the pros but I just remembered that mustard would be good instead of the apple cider vinegar.. I do that in beer type dips and it's really good!
These are my favorite videos ever I always look forward when I see your videos on my subscriptions
