- The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway revisited, the last time we came to this amazing railway my daughter Michelle was six or seven,27 years ago! On that occasion she had a trip in the cab of River Mite,a day she still remembers. We were so pleased when we saw that we had River Mite again for our trip again. We told the driver of our last trip many years ago,to our surprise Rosie was told that she could also ride back in the cab. This really made our holiday and visit to the "Ratty" again.
Many thanks to you Peter for allowing Rosie on the cab with you.
In the video you can see the guys preparing the loco's for the weekends Gala, some visiting from other railways.
One fascinating thing to note is that in the first two _Roller Coaster Tycoon_ computer games, "Northern Rock" was the basis for the steam locomotive on the Miniature Railway ride!
I didn't know that Alex. Not into video games but thanks for the info.
I really enjoyed my ride on this railway a number of years ago and it is one of my favourites. The scenery is beautiful and its a decent ride with tell-tale signs of it's previous history as a narrow gauge line. Synolda is a lovely looking engine and Whillan Beck looks fantastic, the Ratty did well getting this locomotive. I also like River Esk, but River Mite is my favourite on the line, it's a powerful engine and I've just always like the livery and balanced look of the locomotive. A fine video and makes me want to return for another visit some time.
Any loco's that look like the RHDR ones are just fine with me,as that is my favourite M.R,but the Ratty is a close second...The scenery is better than the Romney Marsh though David.
Brillaint video! Happy New Year!
Happy new year! That was a good day. A special one for Rosie.
Fabulous trip for Rosie. I really loved the La’al Ratty when visited.
It is a beautiful location isn't it Kay,we drove up past the lakes, just amazing views, why go abroad when we have area's like that........Best wishes Chris.
My favourite is River Esk! Great camerawork, it is well appreciated! Thanks!
Many thanks Lewis..We try our best with the camera work Lewis, but sometimes we work to such a very tight schedule,so we don't always get the time to film the fine detail shots that we wish we had taken....Your comments are much appreciated!.......Best wishes Chris
@@wooltman Well, as a train filmmaker myself, I know how it feels all the traveling, filming and editing processes. Although later rewarding, it is something really demanding... Thats when you really start to appreciate the hard work on a film. Just like yours! Congratulations! :)
Looks like You both had a great time on this Railway....!! How amazing after 27 Years Your back on the same Locomotive....Rosie was in Her element then..lol....Best wishes....Steve.
A great long weekend in Cumbria, the light conditions were amazing just wish we had more time to have taken some photo's of the lakes.27 years just where has that time gone it passes so quickly! Rosie and I had a great time on the Ratty..........Best wishes Chris and Rosie.
This is a wonderful Railway Chris, been there a few times, and thoroughly enjoyed the runs....Regards....Bob
It always reminds me of the Talyllyn railway at the start of the ride, the scenery is beautiful on both lines....River Mite is now at the R.H.& D.R for a gala.......Best wishes Chris
I was amazed by how much low-end torque the steam locos have over the diesels, which really struggled on the steeper sections.
They are amazing beasts.we love em!
One I have visited a few times Chris , a fantastic little railway, very scenic area there , most enjoyable...Dave
We saw a lot of the lakes and scenery during our long weekend away in Cumbria Dave, lovely weather as well, like you we love this area......Regards Chris
I still remember. Never Overlook A Little Engine.
Hi Joel. They are lovely. We just cannot get enough of them.Glad you liked my video.
@@wooltman and this year just so happens to be the 75th anniversary of Mr.Awdry's Famous Railway engines who appeared in those Railway series books.
I first knew about the Ravenglass & Eksdale Railway while I was trying to find out on the web the fate of some Spanish 1: 3 scale steam locos that ran under an international exhibition at Seville in the twenties of the past century. I found that one of them , the Pinta, was acquired one year ago by the R&ER, ending her restoration and being renamed Whillan Beck. trainfromspain.org
I guess she is the one that we can see in the shed at minute 3:57 in the video. I felt very happy to see her in such a good condition (some of her sisters were scrapped) and with a lucky future in that wonderful scenery. Congrats to you and Michelle, best regards.
Yes that blue loco 3.58--4.35//24.10--31 is the Engine from Spain, with a lot of time and money she looks amazing.Glad you found my video to your liking........Best wishes Chris
A great little railway & I'm sure Rosie tried hard to resist the offer but failed miserably lol. By coincidence I've also ridden down on River Mite..... I had a coach load of folk on train and much to their amusement I was offered the ride back by an ex Carnforth Driver..... They let me drive back to Keswick with a black face without telling me duh!! Regards, Brian.
LOL! That will teach you! You know Rosie Brian, any chance to get on a steam loco...Rosie was dead envious of the young lady that was driving one of the loco's (you can see her leaving with a train on the last shot) We are so lucky having a great hobby like this!...Best wishes Chris and Rosie.
I can imagine Rosie's envy Chris, just a bit far to travel eh. Yes a great hobby & more so when we have such supportive wives who share our passion. Cheers, Brian.
Sadly you didn't get a class 37 or 68 then (or a Pacer), but a very enjoyable day out. Good to see Rosie's fame is still enabling her to cadge footplate rides. :D
Sadly not Andrei,we did see both T&T and Push pull 68's at Ravenglass, seems a waste of power to me when the 158 can do the job as well...LOL! you know Rosie she will get on the cab if she can....What surprised me is she never got to drive anything.........Best wishes Chris.
Still using clattery old DMUs on the BR Main Line then...
If it ain't broke don't mend or replace it lol!
I wonder when George Staniforth retired? He used to drive River Irt
Sorry I cannot answer that.
