  • This video was created as part of eyeJAZZ and the Jazz Journalists Association (JJA). I am a participating eyeJAZZ trainee. This is the first project to show a "Jazz Place" - so I chose the premiere jazz venue in the city closest to me . . . Churchill Grounds in Atlanta, GA.
Visit Churchill Grounds website for more information and schedule of events:

Just an FYI, this video is about five years old - and I have received comments from patrons who feel that this is no longer Atlanta's premiere place for jazz. The Velvet Note has established a strong presence in Atlanta as a premiere jazz venue, and is currently bringing in some of the best jazz artists in the world.

‪#‎JazzApril‬ - Listen, watch, appreciate & spread the word of jazz - the premiere place for jazz in Atlanta is Churchill Grounds, the Whisper Room may be gone now but it's been Atlanta's prime spot for straight ahead jazz for over 15 years (18?) - ‪#‎jazz‬ ‪#‎AtlantaJazz‬ ‪#‎celebrateJAM‬ ‪#‎JazzAppreciationMonth‬

Churchill Grounds is one of the great jazz spots in Atlanta. If you're further into the suburbs places like Velvet Note and Steve's Live Music are also great spots . If you're staying in downtown Atlanta, Churchill Grounds is where you want to go, along with Elliott Street, and Venkman's. I had a hard time recently in Boston finding a venue to listen to some good jazz - Wally's was the best we found - but there are a few good choices in Atlanta.
