If your unit is failing on the pressure switch you usually have cracked or broken burner tubes. They need to be pulled and inspected every six months. Those gas valves need to be checked with a monometer to make sure they are opening. There is an upstream and downstream tapping on the valves. Incoming supply gas pressure should be checked first set according to the manual then set the differential gas pressure after the air pressure in the unit is set first. Don't waste your time messing with everything until you make sure the burner tubes are good.
Nice Vid!! 10:50 looking through the sight lets you see the condition of your Flame Rod Sensor. It is a safety device that stays in the flame verifying that it is lit by generating a small amount of current (Microamps or Milliamps). It verifies flame is present to the controls and triggers shutting off the gas if flame ignition does not remain present to prevent filling the area with gas preventing an ignition hazard as well as preventing people from breathing in toxic fumes. If you see the flame sensor majorly leaning over or deteriorating than you will know it is about time to replace the Flame Rod Sensor to prevent a no hot water call. The window also lets you see the condition of your flames. Nice detective work! ~ Yay! Geoff!!!
Lochinvar uses a ignitor/ flame sensor combo. There is no separate flame sensor on these boilers. The ignitor rectifies flame thru it and sits directly over flame. That's why you need lochinvar ignitors when they go bad.
@@pineychristian is exactly correct. No separate flame sensors in these machines. New Lochinvar flame sensors read around 70 ohms of resistance. When they get out of wack they read a different micro-amp reading to the control board causing troubles.
Good video Wow I was not aware that lochinvar copper fin boilers where allowed to be outside. I'm very familiar with these boilers. They eat ignitors, pressure switches and most are suppose to have a filter in back so combustion air is cleaned going into boiler. If gas pressure isn't set correctly and unit isn't cleaned once a yr they are known for cracking burners also....
You need to get digital manometer, some tubing and 3/16" tee. you can tap into the pressure switch circuit and see what the actual readings are and it save you a of time diagnosing. I've seen tube barbs clog, inducer fan blades get rusty or brake off, even dirty burners will shut you down on pressure switch. Lochinvars are touchy when it comes to pressure switches.
We had a manometer it grew legs and walked off hehe. I agree Lochinvar's are touchy. The air has to be dialed in almost to the exact in of mercury number. Thanks for Watching John
I Had one of these at a school for domestic hot water. Maintenance said it had a low air code and they replaced the switch but it didn't fix it. turned out the power for the switch comes from the flow switch and that switch was rotted
Having the cabinet open does affect it . Your bypassing the air filter. A dirty filter restricting air could is one issue . Heat exchanger may need cleaning . Dirty heat exchanger ( coil) will also result in low and if not cleaned & tech adds air without proper cleaning it will result in damaged burners . Restricted airflow through heat exchanger resulting in over pressurized chamber will cause flame burning in tubes causing fractured burner tubes.
combustion blower/draft inducer sounds a bit noisy. maybe some bee's made a nest and got sucked in or plugging something partially. always happens up this way
I can’t tell you how many times I got no heat calls with a low air error code , I get there and the blower motor just runs nonstop with the boiler not even trying to ignite. So right away you think it’s a air switch but it turns out to be the igniter.
Good vid geoff, and it never fails when every resident in the wing complains about something while you are working on it. Or when they call every ten minutes to ask when will it be fixed. As always stay safe geoff
Oh yea the asking when is it going to be fixed gets on my nerves so... I always just tell them in about 4 hrs . Then they say WHAT!!!!! then i start say 3 .......2.......can i get a 1 SOLD TO NUMBER ONE all right .LOL . The funniest thing was when it went down last time the gauge was stuck on the gas tank and said it was full. (Fair enough) so on a Friday (I was off) it went down. The ED's bosses boss was there and was hounding the guy working on it. Finally the guy just made up something that he thought was a problem because of the hounding. They ordered 2 of the modules. Then I came in on Monday hearing all this about no hot water. So I went straight to the gas tank and banged on the gauge and it went down to zero. The boss that was there Friday was again on Monday they where having a meeting in the confreres room. So I poked My head in to tell my boss and said. Your boiler has been almost fixed. They said what do you mean almost...... Well do have 800 gals of LP sitting around. They all just said all at the same time you got to be KIDDING. It was such an Epic moment. Thanks for Watching Chris👍

Thank you for posting this video. I replaced my igniter and then had the same error you did. Turns out my side panel wasn’t screwed down tight enough.

propane go boom ;)

Excellent video! Mine was the pressure switch and I actually had one! Fixed in less than 5 mins, time to buy a lottery ticket! Thank you!
Some of those have fresh air filters!
Pressure switchs are a common failure on these too!
Good video

Thanks bro. 🖖 you save my day
G-Man to the rescue ... Hope your higher -ups appreciate your good work ... Stay safe ...
Thanks Eddy

Great video thank you for sharing !
You fixed it with no tools, but I will tell you It will lock out again. Seems your the same guy that fixed a unit that i now have to rewire lol 😅
When checking the gas why not just crack the union on the units gas line

What about flame failure condition?
Nice video keep that good work up
I have the same problem i clean the filter i clean the fan i change the switch air sensor and the fail for air continues
Nice repair video

how much for gas there
$2.85 a gallon for propane gas the tank holds a thousand gallons. Thanks for watching Ethan
thats not bad
LIKE THE VIDEO GEOFF I HAD 2 LOCNIVARS AT A HOTEL I WORKED FOR AND THOSE THINGS CAN BE TEMPERMENTAL , HAVE A GOOD DAY
Whoever decided to start installing these sheet metal POS boilers outdoors needs to be kicked in the nuts. All that corrosion.
Really? This guy barks up all the wrong trees, makes a five minute repair turned into 45 minute repair, must get paid by the hour
Your a maintenance guy! You always have your meter close by. Duh
