    There are some Vehicles that rectify power from the stator directly to the cdi unit. Thus allowing for a DC cdi that will function with no battery. Regardless will still have fused positive and main switch wires

    • @jdscustombuggies1733
      @jdscustombuggies1733  6 місяців тому

      correct, but in the case of the buggies that i have seen as battery voltage drops, the cdi loses function which would be a direct result of a failing rectifier, the way the buggies are wired is the rectifier maintains the battery as the draw happens when it is running. Basically depends on the way it is wired.

    Great video JD.
    Very useful information for those of us getting into the buggy world. You mentioned at the end you may post a video on the entire wiring harness.
    For what it’s worth, I believe that would be the most valuable information you could provide. I’ve been having ongoing wiring issues on 3 different buggies and there is not a definitive video anywhere on the web that describes what each component of the electrical system does and what they need to properly function as an interdependent system.
    I’m a complete novice and electrical is like dark magic to me. Some people are very knowledgeable but are not very skilled at transferring their information. Your videos are easy to follow with the right amount of explanations.

    For me, I think the question is, given the purchase of a non-descript cheap CDI, how do you know which type it is - ac or dc? Also, can you use an ac CDI in a dc machine (and vice versa)? I guess I'm also worried about what any replacement might do for ignition timing - especially for 2 strokes where quick overheating and catastrophic failure could result. It's a minefield don't you think?

      yes but why? what i mean is it can be wired to work but you still need the battery to run the DC CDI so why skip a solenoid in the mix. not to mention you still need a starter to seal the hole it goes into. but a kickstart can still be used as a backup as long as the power is getting to the CDI it should fire.
