1994 that's crazy! I was 14 years old when this album was released, remember it like yesterday and loved it! So much so I also bought the guitar tab book and learnt all the songs. Mustaine, Ellefson, Friedman and Menza R.I.P. in my eyes the most solid Megadeth that ever was. Keep it rocking!

I think the riff in Never Walk Alone is actually the original version of the Vortex riff but they changed it for the album. It's not the Vortex riff from Cryptic Writings he's playing if you listen closely. Dave has been known to use riffs and variations he wrote years ago in newer albums.

The cool thing about this album in particular is that every backing track except for a few overdubs are recorded live and that is just mind blowing especially playing the kind of music megadeth played.

a studio inside a warehouse !?! But how can such a thing beeeee ? How can they fit in such a space, all their POWWWERRRR !? forgive me i am but an ignorant klingon
this album was plagued by the "scooped" mixing and later on even worse on the remaster... you can actually hear the guitar solos loud and clear on the studio demos and even on the Cassette release (some kind soul shared the audio recording of it here on youtub)

Im just listening to this now and that part at around 10:50 is sad.
R.I.P
And he was playing jazz or something like that. Ironic

just commented the same, these time vault docs blow my mind.
"I don´t want to play anything heavier because I want to live to be 60" - Nick Menza R.I.P he was 52
Youthanasia is one of my favourite albums
Botram Duuze Yes finally the love this album deserves, its in my top 3 Megadeth albums.

Youthanasia is an epic album. Obviously its not thrash but who cares. The music is great. RIP Nick
I agree with you
it is an prog thrash album definitly in some songs... BUT it's an heavy metal album with great influences of hard rock and speed metal

Don't know if anyone noticed but at 6:38 Marty is playing a riff from Never Walk Alone. It was on a Megadeth album that came out in 2007.
It could be Vortex , which came out in 1997
It is "Vortex". I've always thought that the main riff of "Never Walk Alone" sounded very similar to the main riff from "Vortex".
I think the riff in Never Walk Alone is actually the original version of the Vortex riff but they changed it for the album. It's not the Vortex riff from Cryptic Writings he's playing if you listen closely. Dave has been known to use riffs and variations he wrote years ago in newer albums.
10:52 "I'm not gonna play anything heavier than that cause I wanna live to be 60", RIP Nicky we miss ya
14:06 they used that riff in their next album in Vortex song and in 24:14 it's the Fff song
Yup, absolutely! And 7:23, does anyone recognizes that? I think they have never used it on any song...
Javier Ignacio Lazzarino Sucunza That riff came out in Thirteen album, listen to the backing track of We the people and you can hear the exact pattern
what about 4:24?
And fight for freedom riff based on motorbreath riff
damn, Nick loved Megadeth, great documentary and album
14:06 This is the riff for Vortex from Cryptic Writings! Awesome!
2020 and still miss Nick , amazing atemporal álbum ,...

30 years later, this is one of the best Megadeth albums and one of the most forgotten by the band without any apparent reason.
Who could afford building such a studio to record an album these days?
Rest in Peace Nick. Legend
42:00 best solo ever from Marty!
where is the part that dave sees the album cover for the first time?
Thx for posting! I'd loose the dvd^^. Cant wait for 2022 album.

yes they even end by singing Elysian Fields
yes they even end by singing Elysian Fields
It's a shame they did not add those pieces. Marty's solo was annihilating.

Who'da thought metal involved so much carpentry.
Megadeth wanted to make a very commercial proposition at that time, as this docummentary shows.
Hard to believe that no one could have predicted everything that happened from those days until today.

why not just go to a studio instead of building one in a warehouse?
'Cause nobody wanted to rent a studio for a band called Megadeth. They said it in interview.

so studios can discriminate based on a bands name? sounds like bad business
dont see anything wrong in building your own studio, its more cool to build one the way you want it i think
