A real sleeper that hugely impressed me was the Honda Accord hybrid. I'd consider a top end version of that as a fuel efficient mile-eater and then have a used Tesla EV for around town. I like the idea of a Rivian but I don't like the price.

I agree with you about the whole electrical power grid issue! We’re very fortunate here in AZ that natural disasters are something that happens elsewhere. I would never own a Tesla in place that has weather events that affected power generation. I read an article from this last winter that the extreme cold left many Tesla owners stranded because the charging stations were unable to charge because of the cold. I’ll stick to my hybrid Ford Maverick that’s enough EV for me!

I am glad just about all the other major brands in the US are switching over to Teslas charger connector, as I was heavily considering a Polestar 2 a year or two ago but then read the reviews for the Electrify america stations near me and was like; theres no way that company will last with that track record compared to how well Tesla's Charging network has been the past 10 years

As a 2021 Ford Raptor owner who just bought a Model Y for $40k, i can seriously say this car has blown me away. Would I have an EV as an only car? Hell no. but we've had the car for a month and we've spent $26 in electricity. Only people who haven't driven them are haters. It's the perfect commuter car.

As a fellow truck guy... EVs are a non-starter for me. No, I don't commute more than an EV's range. No, I don't take frequent road trips where scheduling stops would be a necessity. No, I don't haul/tow often, or even go off-road that much. BUT, towing/hauling knocks about half off the range, and for the feature set, the EV trucks are EXPENSIVE. Moreso than my RAM, which I already own.
You made a good point about "expensive electrical upgrades" to the home - a lot of people will need a heavy-up, which in our area is $8-15k, depending on who you have do it. Add in another $2k-4k depending on the charger and installation, and you're adding $10-19k on TOP of purchasing an EV.

I would check into of ot was a rental, and it most likely voids the warranty. Interesting topic.

Thats a good point, not sure if they would honor rental fleets. I am sure there is fine print under the fine print buried on the backside of a sticker somewhere that says it wouldn't be honored.

Will NEVER own an EV, just bought a 23 F150 Tremor, and love it, had a 14 F150, that did me good.

one thing you didn’t touch on…
nationally, EVs, especially Teslas, are the least stolen vehicles.

Interesting point, didn't even think about that.

that car looks like its been in an accident …
airbag went off on the driver’s side?
    rear body joint is sprung?
Beware that I may have rented a rental vehicle.
I will never buy an EV but….
Go test driver a Polestar 2….it’s impressive.

The "charge to 80%" thing is a limitation of heat, speed, and battery life. Without getting into the chemistry and physics of it [because I only 90% understand it myself]... If you fast-charge a LiPo battery, it degrades the battery faster. Charging from 80% to 100% takes longer than from 0% to 80%. Charging to 100% often, will degrade battery life.
The battery packs are actually bigger than what the MFG will tell you - because they have overall and "usable" capacity. They hold some in reserve, for when cells start to go bad. The battery controllers in these cars are more complicated, to handle the battery better as it ages.
The reason Teslas hit motorcycles and other vehicles is because they got rid of radar and go with cameras, and motorcycles & certain other vehicles "look" like they're further away to a Tesla than they are.

Charging to 100% has been debunked. KEEPING 100% for long periods is what you want to avoid

I'm not a big Tesla person and I don't like Elon. Also, I don't like that everything is controlled through that giant screen. And, like you, I hate finger prints.

Just not very good when new on fit and finish. These car’s will need a lot of work.
