I may not be the target audience, as I‘m first of all male and have been slim all my life. But I‘d rather take my fitness advice from Lucy than from pretty much anyone else in the fitness industry. I‘m a personal trainer as well and can attest to the cookie cutter approach and close-minded idea towards fitness that is so prevalent in this industry. Way to go! Love your channel.

Invaluable lessons about self-appreciation and the true meaning of sports. It's rare to hear this on youtube and I am glad I stumbled upon your video. Hugs from France :)

Lucy.. In June I stumbled over one of your videos, and it changed my Life. First I just did your workouts every evening, but then in one video you mentioned that you went out for a run and wanted to see how it went, and that you ran 5k (just like you said in this video today) and back then I felt kind of fit, and I thought: well, lets find out how far I can run. I could only run about 300 meters before feeling like my lungs exploded, but you know what? I stuck with it. Since then, I lost about 22kg, eat healthier, do body weight training regulary (not on your level, but I am sticking with it!), practicing handstands and I am currently training for a marathon! My life is so similar to yours, overweight all the way back in school, afraid of PE, exactly the same story. And here I am, inspired by you back in June, following my own fittness dreams. And you know what the big gamechanger was back then for me? I didnt even want to lose weight, I just wanted to get fitter, like you were. The weightloss happened all on its own.
I am writing here to say: Thank you. Thank you for your honest and open videos, for sharing your story in such a relatable way, and for inspiring so many of us to start finding our own happiness, and starting to love using our bodies.

It always bothered me the fact that I resist to the regular gym. Everyone I talk to has a strict relationship with fitness and stuff. My thoughts are always concerned about finding some kind of pleasure that can help me to increase my consistency. I love that your video brought that perspective as well!

I just want to let you know that you've inspired me so much.
I lost 16 kg last year after gaining all that weight due to hypothyroiditis and starting to work full-time plus relying on the wrong ideas of health and fitness which made and hate it so much and avoid moving and goinh into an endless cycle of undereating and binge-eating every day. Before that I was somewhat fit and never struggled with weight too much so it felt like an impossible challenge to lose so much weight/fat.
Last year I started yoga and enjoy moving and while I definitely challenged myself too much and causing 2 injuries, I found out that the most importing thing was to enjoy moving my body and eating healthy in a way that's not restrictive.
I definitely agree with everything you say. The biggest learning for me this year has been to play around after my yoga session to have fun with it and to realize through the introception yoga brings that it's not about achievements or numbers but about appreciating yourself and your abilities and try out new things but keep that foundation of the lifestyle and basic movements.
You definitely made me realize that losing weight doesn't have to be that rigid discipline of torture and punishment and that the most important thing is to make adjustments in a way that you enjoy the process.

I was in tears towards the end of the video because all you are saying in this video was my past and now after having 2 kids I can't do the majority of those activities and in fitness I'm back to beginner and starting all over again. Don't take me wrong, I'm in love with my kids and im super blessed to have them but it's so freaking difficult to start everything again and not be able to do all activities again. but i know i need to be patient and keep going to reach what I was before. im glad to have people like you in youtube. Thanks for being amazing and so genuine. love from Brisbane

You inspire me! I’m currently where you started - overweight, can’t do a push up or pull up or a proper squat. Gains are slow. But I just filmed myself a week ago on a band-assisted pull up and compared it to my first attempt at a band-assisted pull up three months ago, and I can see progress! It’s slow, but it’s there. Thanks for making your channel! 💪🏻

I am overweight, always been.. but at the same time I LOVED sports especially running. I constantly lost a little weight during summer and gained it back in winter, and that was so tiring. I never saw a change. But a year or two ago, when I found about calisthenics I found your channel and I have never been as inspired ever!! I love your content and it gives me hope and currently I'm very disciplined, and your tips really help me. thank you💓💓

Like me, a lot of people are afraid to start exercising without a plan that's perfectly made for us to succeed or because we've disassociated from our bodies. I felt that "go by what feels right for you" was scary because I didn't want to feel my body. I felt shame, anger and a fear of failure. My family of 6 has fast metabolisms and I gained weight rapidly in one year when I was 29yrs old. My past self was "my real self". I felt depressed at seeing the weight in the mirror but I wasn't prepared to truly face it and what it's limits are. I only started exercising consistently 2 months ago, so I'm in the beginning to middle of my journey but the mere act of starting has done wonders to my self perception. I started with simple 8 to 10 basic at-home bodyweight exercises with no equipment, 10reps, 3sets. I worked out 3 or 4 times a week and spaced out exercise days by 24hrs if I needed my body to heal. On off days, I did beginner yoga or walked 1 or 2km with music or a podcast in my ears. After the 2nd week of doing this, I felt a massive difference - I felt my core engage when I sat up from a laying position, walking up the stairs easier, having stamina for longer and becoming more aware of my muscles in daily tasks. I ate a lot of eggs, reduced my sugar, minimized my meal size and ate a small treat once a day or every second day. When I looked in the mirror, I felt gratitude at the big body reflected back. I knew it was working with me, not against me. Every tiny change was eye opening and gave me a feeling of gratitude, even though the scale wasn't yet showing a nice weight loss reduction. But I was happy nonetheless. "Just start" really is all one can say to those who feel a fear of failure or don't want to face the body they have right now. The fear is nothing in comparison to the pleasure of feeling your muscles heal and activate and all the good small changes it gives you. Your body is your ultimate friend and it will adjust. Even painful wrists will get stronger if you give it time to heal and do it again. The little aches when you worked out hard will become a pleasure to feel the next day. Falling in love with your body in a way that you never have before will happen right after you start and are consistent. Then nothing will hold you back as your attention shifts towards pleasure, gratitude and the possibilities of what your body can do. Maybe, like me, you stop aiming for weight loss because you enjoy moving your body - weight loss will happen on its own as you remain consistent and enjoy the process. You'll feel braver to face negative thoughts around your body over and over again as gratitude flows through you much more than the fear does. If you're an absolute beginner, you might need to give your body 24 or 48hrs to heal from exercise as the weight we're carrying is working out our muscles so much but be consistent and don't give up. Goodluck! :)

Thank you Lucy for your words! One can definitely tell from your speech and approach that you went through all the steps from ground level to where you're at now, and that you remember the whole process. And this is really appreciated!
I used to be really underweight and after gaining some kilos back (which can be as hard as losing them), I also found happiness through sport and am so grateful to my body for allowing me to do all these things today. Also a big subscriber to the 'just in love for movement' approach

Love hearing your story. I'm 20kg heavier than I'm used to after a year on a life-saving medication. I'm fit-ish though -- can run and plank and do loads of squats. It's left me quite frustrated and lost. I'm trying to just appreciate my body as it is right now while still hoping to lose weight.

I love your videos. They are very inspiring and helps me really believe that I CAN DO IT!! I have found there is so much information on UA-cam, internet, etc. and it has become just information overload and keeps me stuck! I used to love movement and exercise. Then I have gotten older and gained weight and I am SO unhappy with my weight, that the thought of any exercise does not sound fun because I can't get out of my own head and all I see is how far I have to go!! I want to feel that same excitement you feel about getting out of bed and moving your body. I KNOW that I just need to take action and the fact that I feel so stuck, keeps me more depressed. LOL - it's just a never-ending cycle and I WILL get out of - thanks to your videos. I WILL do it!!!

Nice advice. I'm one of those people who gets bored really quickly with structured training programmes, which has led me to just give up on going to the gym. But I'm back at it soon, I've lost 14lb thru just changing my eating and now I've got that fairly solid, it's time to switch it up and get back to the gym. So I'm going to try various classes, avoiding those I known I'll hate, and try some stuff to see what might light me up. Going to try spinning for the first time at the weekend. I've always thought I'd hate it, but to be fair, I've never done it, so how could I know? So thanks for the little bit of permission to just do what I like 👍 I have always loved lifting weights, but that tends to still be those body builder types who monopolise it. I'd really like a lifting partner, who, like me, just wants to lift for the fun of it without disappearing up our own arses about it! so perhaps that's something else to explore.

You're so right, it's crucial to find something you really enjoy. I used to pretend to enjoy yoga, but as often as not it just made me feel crap about the tricks I couldn't do (I know this was completely the wrong attitude 😋but still) and how unlike a lovely yoga bunny I was! There's something about strength training that I really like, maybe partly because I don't have to worry about being elegant! 😁 Love your skates, wishing you much happiness with those and look forward to you maybe sharing some skating videos one day!
