- We took the Madaraka express, a train on the new high-speed railway from Nairobi to Mombasa in Kenya. It passes through the Tsavo national park so we got to see elephants, giraffes, antelope, ostrich and many more African animals from the train, it was magical. Where shall we take a train ride next?

One of the songs we used got flagged so we had to change it
Epidemic sounds or Music Bed can help I guess 😁
The music was fantastic in this video very upbeat
Loving these travel videos...looking forward to the baby elephant video
99% of the time we use epidemic sound, love them!! Louis wanted to experiment with a different song this time 🙃 won’t be doing that again haha
As a Kenyan and a big fan of yours, this video makes me so happy. I hope you have/had a great time, in Mombasa :)
Thank you! ☺️

@@RayaandLouis Awful Chi Na Train
I spent three months living on the Kenyan coast. It’s my favourite place in the world, and the southern beaches are the best in the world.
You went to Diani ?
@@GanymedeAxis yes! Spent many weekends at the Diani beach chalets. Lived by the beach an hour south in Msambweni.
@@sjwells04 I'm Kenyan but my excursions never took me as far south to Msambweni 😀. I stayed at Papillon Lagoon Resort.
@@sjwells04 welcome back to Kenya 🇰🇪 Next time visit watamu it also has beautiful beaches
@@lloydwalterowish4685 thank you for the recommendation Lloyd!
You two are very positive. You are the kinds of tourists local people love hosting. You should come more often.
1971 and I was camping on Mombasa beach with around 15 others. Our safari (Nairobi to Capetown) was delayed (due to delay, I had to finish my trip in Durban, otherwise I would miss my ship connection bound for Western Australia) start in Nairobi and the option was added to go out to the beach, lots of sunburn but also good to bond with my fellow travellers. I was just in my 20s at the time...
Welcome back. Kenya has transformed, though expensive compared with 1971.
Am in the US and have been told few times Kenya is in the middle of nowhere. I hope they will get to watch this video. Thank you for sharing this with the world proudly Kenyan🇰🇪
i'm Kenyan and that's a lie
Dear Africans, let’s show love and support to this couple showing Africa with respect. Crazy how there are still many westerners looking only for negativity in Africa with so much disrespect and arrogance.
Lovely video! Personally i think Kenya has the best beaches in the world - you definitely should explore more of them! xx
Yeah you are right Pascalle
iv been tryn do dat here in Vietnam
You have a very bad taste of beaches
In 1980.. I had the memorable experince of taking the overnight "express" train from Mombasa to Nairobi. In those days the start was from very much a 3rd world, quite chaotic station( think of the scene at Istanbul, from the 1970's version of "Murder on The Orient Express"!). However once on board, I realsied that I had somehow been transported back to pre-World War 2 levels of first class comfort. Snow white linen, fine wines and first rate service. The most memorable part however was breakfast the following morning, bacon and eggs with fresh Kenyan coffee, witth giraffes lolloping alongside the train, whilst on the other we were accompanied by a herd of Zebra and a few Wildebeest, as we approached Nairobi through a Game Reserve..!!
Beautiful memories
I can't believe it ! I remember seeing this couple I was on the same train coming back to Nairobi!!!
Oh my i was steaming over here in USA. Being from Kenya when you guys said your going to Mombasa i said finally people can see Kenya is not just about animals and parks, but they have one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Not only beaches but beach hotels, resorts, villas you name it. And when you guys said you are going back to Nairobi after visiting the park, i said what? Mombasa is known for its coastal beaches and resorts how can you not show that. Then you said your next video is about Mombasa and more to come. That calmed me down. What a nice tease. karibu Kenya hakuna matata
Home is waiting for you😂
To travel with madaraka express is amazing and the railstages are soo nice and clean. Kenya is my best second homecountry
Thank you Raya and Louis. We look forward to welcome you back in the not so distant future. Riding the train through the park is special. Magical Kenya is home.
Just in case you’re curious, the beans and spinach are called maharagwe and mchicha. They’re staples along with chapati in most villages x
actually its maharagwe na spinach😁😁

Also can be called chapati na madondo.....:)

The train is called the standard gauge railway or more locally "sgr" it has a capacity of 1,096 passengers and can achieve speeds of upto 120 km/h . It travels from Nairobi to Mombasa in 5-6 hours, and is very popular with young Kenyans costing ($7 - $30) welcome to Kenya 🇰🇪 .
No. The train is actually officially called MADARAKA EXPRESS.
But due to some poor branding launch, the window opportunity to engrave the Madaraka Express name passed and the construction name stuck.
Yes,its called the MADARAKA EXPRESS
@@felixdatche9278 even though it's called the Madaraka Express, @Lee Matheri is correct, we just continue to call it the SGR.

Thank you so so much Tara! ❤️
Aaaghh!!! I’m feeling SO homesick right now!!! I grew up in Nairobi & Kijabe (1 hr towards Naivasha). Thanks for showing sukuma wiki, chapatis, & BHAJIAS!!! I’d forgotten about those - our favorites were the bhajias on Biashara street when the duka market was beside the mosque there…a few decades ago! Feeling nostalgic with memories of the overnight KR train with 2 bunk beds. (I’m not as old as “the good ol’ E.A.R.&H.” Roger Whitaker song from his Kenya album😉)
I can’t wait for your next videos as the beaches in Kenya are some of the best in the world. When I was a child tourism was a massive industry along the coast! Mombayo!!! Thanks SO much! And there is a giraffe centre separate from the Manor that is very doable for an afternoon excursion from Nairobi.
OMG the bhajia shop you're talking about is Ismailia. Unfortunately it's no longer there 😢 but the next time you come, pass by Diamond Plaza (the old wing parking lot food court) for the bhajias
haha you were living right in the CBD
Your channel popped up in my feed!! I was the attendant in the coach during the trip back to Nairobi. I guessed right that maybe you have a you tube channel when I saw you guys vlogging when entering the coach...Thank you so much for complimenting Sgr. Am so glad you enjoyed every minute. It's feels so good watching this video and having to see you captured some of my favourite things to see when am working too. This gave me chills as I was watching because I’m from Kenya so seeing this on UA-cam is actually beautiful! Please tell me you ate the coconut bits after drinking the water from the madafu (coconut) - it’s the best part!

It’s been a while since you guys have visited Kenya. The country has changed a lot since you last visited… Great adventure seeing Kenya by train.
Yeah it has,welcome back ast
Oh wow that looks amazing and comfortable train. Great views also! I was 3 months in Kenya 2006 and train ride from Nairobi to Mombasa was about 17 hours (totally 19 hours in train) :D and no air con (It supposed to be something like 14 hours but well...it wasnt) First class ticket included small cabin (I think it was for 2 persons) and possibility to sleep in bed. The ride was absolutely something to remember. Noisy, slow, sweaty, exciting, memorable! And you can imagine how easy it was to "do your things" in hole toilet while train was shaking like crazy :D Greetings from Finland!
Come back. We have faster trains now 😊
Yea, it was called the lunatic express. Had fond memories with that one
Hahahahahah! The Lunatic express! It still exists but mostly for adventurists...Things have changed so much now but you can still get the same experience if you choose to...Big Up!

I love you guys so much. Welcome to my country Kenya. I’ve watched you guys for so many years now.
I lived in Kenya as a teen. Our family took a holiday trip from Nairobi to Mombasa in 1974. The train left jn the late afternoon, we enjoyed dinner in a separate dining car, then slept in bunks in our compartment. Great memories! Thanks so much for posting!
The train is there since 5 years 😂 so 1974 ??????
Sounds like it's during colonial era😅
i've taken that train several times, and I guess as a Kenyan, i've seen the animals plenty of times, that I always wish I get that particular seat that's not a window seat so that I can pull out my laptop and watch a movie and drink irresponsibly all the way to the coast! 😆 😆 😆would have been happy to switch with you....if I had been in the same train
Spoken like a true Kenyan hahaha
I learnt that the best way to get a window seat is to book directly at the receptionist desk on the day of the journey... Just smile at the receptionist and request them to give you a window seat when paying and they'll assign you one... Disclaimer though this trick is only possible if the train is not full to capacity
We love to see it! Karibuni Kenya, the train ride is beautiful and has been a game changer for most of us!
Great video guys, I like how you're very respectful of everything. Definitely encouraged me to visit Kenya. The train stations look amazing, like airports, who would've thought?

Yes they are nice Chinese developments the stations are way better than what we have in America and cleaner
Welcome to Kenya the land full of surprises.....

Really love getting to experience your amazing travel adventures! It's definitely inspiring. I'm in the US and have only been to Canada as a kid. I'd love a video on travel basics, like what do you do for cell phones and data, how do you make sure you can use your bank cards in other countries, what websites you trust to book experiences, packing advise, what do you use for an address on official documents like a driver's license when you're nomadic, best times of year to visit different parts of the world, all those kinds of practical things! Honestly you guys could write a book about travel pro tips I'm sure!
As long as you have visa and Mastercard you are good you can use it in most banks In Kenya....also cell phones are cheap $50 gets you a nice phone to use...kenya has alot of tourist and we speak English so no language barrier...
This shows how the level misinformation over there. You can access cell phones everywhere in kenya. Network is stable. For data, you gotta buy and register a safaricom sim card which allows you to buy data bundles depending on the amount you want to spend. Monthly data can go for around 6-8 dollars

Not sure if they're being safe by checking bags that many times. I remember seeing my bag there on the inside and making it's way out only to not come out and get "lost". When I got it back a few days later, they had gotten into my suitcase and stolen some electronics. Never packed electronics in a suitcase after that.
Never let a bag out of sight.
They're not checking your bags to guard your individual stuff for you. They're doing it for the public good, to ensure there are no explosive on board for terrorist attacks.
The real purpose for the search is to make it difficult for terrorists not to guard your stuff
They check the bags to ensure they are no guns or explosives..they don't guard your items that's your job to take care of your things
