Thanks. I have two small Owari, bought in pots last spring. One had about 12 green golfball sized fruit, other just had blossoms. I'm I'm 8b western Oregon mountains. They were out on the S side of my house deck for good sun all summer, into a small greenhouse/hoophouse' all winter. The first one ripened well, to sweetness' in October, while the second is still only at a yellow stage, and smaller sized fruit. I ate one just now, and it was good color inside and had encouraging flavor, but not very sweet at all, still quite edible and not sour. I will wait. These two plants are the same size, the second late one has 23 more fruit on it yet. I probably should have taken all fruit off early in the spring and summer to get more vegetative growth, but could not do it. They still have put out new growth even in mid winter, but the one I picked clean in October has more new growth than the one that still has the fruit. I have not added citrus fertilizer since mid summer, and not much water. They still look good.

Haha yes its very tempting to hold onto fruits and I do it all the time when I shouldn't. The new growth and health of the tree is definitely much better when stripping the fruits when young. Hot day inside the greenhouse and cooler at night will sweeten it up a lot more depending on mother nature for that. Also, don't water it too much will help quite a bit.

Yes, I used forest soil, rather than lighter potting soil to pot them in. Still wondering if it holds too much water close to the roots, to likely cause more risk of roots rotting. So far, it seems to be okay, but I'm unsure about watering, so I lean strongly toward under watering. I guess they will tell me when I'm screwing up?@@natbackyardgarden

Subbed to your channel. It's so hard being a citrus lover in TX thanks to the citrus laws, lol. Am here in DFW myself. Where did you find pine bark fines, as well as Honey mandarin? Also, do you have any favorite recommendations for nurseries? Thanks!

Thanks! Lowes carries it here where we are at and sometime they come in the perfect potting size. There's a lot of awesome nurseries down there. I recommend Tea Garden Nursery and Doan's Nursery in Arlington and Phuong's Nursery in Garland. They will carry all kind of tropical plants and citrus!

Hey Nat, have you seen a Lima variety orange anywhere you have been? They supposedly have the same characteristics of some oranges I tried a couple of years ago, they were super sweet with no acid and no tartness. I think I also want av Valencia orange also because it does supposedly have some acid, I like Orange juice with some acid in it when I have a sore throat or the flu , when I'm sick which is nearly never. Thanks man
Are those panels you used to build you greenhouse 4" x 4" squares grid.

That's the first time I heard of an acidless citrus! Will be on the lookout for that in the nurseries. Yes same here, I love me some tang/acidity in my citrus so the honey sweet of the citrus is not overpowering. Yes! The sour nagami kumquat and calamondin when made into marmalade are great for any sore throat or cough!

I heard the older the tree gets the sweeter the fruit gets

Yes that is definitely correct! Also the rootstock type and weather during ripening make a big different too.
