My friend got this car and lets me borrow it often and I fell in love with it automatically. I have never thought about getting a GMC Terrain before that, and now I want one. Upon further research, this video included, it seems like an amazing car for me! I was set on getting a Honda CR-V, but I'm all for GMC now! I can't wait to get this SUV!
1: The 1.5L engine is fine around town and easily keeps up with the slow drivers around you. I know people say you need 250, 350, 500... HP, but that's for highway passing, freeway onramps, and 0-60 times. Around town, your limiting factor will always be that Prius in front of you. I found that it drives exactly as fast as it needs to, thanks to the reverse mapped turbo (power is generated at low rpms and eases off, similar to Ford's Ecoboost) and almost CVT smooth 9 speed. The 9 speed is also designed for GM's much larger engines and vehicles, so while reliability is OK, with it being stressed half as much, it should be very reliable. Excess torque and weight you are hauling/towing is what kills transmissions. GMC Traverse: 4362lbs, 310hp/266lb-ft@3400rpm GMC Terrain: 3449lbs, 170hp/203lb-ft@2000prm - same transmission? This is definitely a case of getting a higher level gearbox in a smaller vehicle. win-win. The Traverse also says it can tow 5000lbs while the Terrain says 1500lbs(?) 99% of Terrain drivers are never going to stress this gearbox enough to fail. 2: The 9 speed does make it much quicker and is mapped to keep you in your turbo range as much as possible. Driving it feels like a small turbo diesel. The Equinox is chunky you feel the shifts a lot more. In my testing, it was immediately apparent which was quicker and more agile. The Chevy with the 6 speed/1.5L felt rental MEH, the GMC felt like you dropped a manual in it - an instant 5-10% more power at all times due to the extra gears and better mapping. The transmission is the real reason to get the Terrain over the Equinox. My impression of it was that of a bulldog. Small, brick-like, and pulls you around. No excitement, just gets the job done with almost linear power delivery and loads of torque for such a small engine. 3: Great features like the cargo cover fits under the rear floor in a holder, the front seat folds down, and the radar cruise control is spooky good - almost Audi levels. Out of a GM??? The downside is 2/3 of the tech was standard on the 2020 models (had to buy a $600 safety package) but is all now standard on the 2021s. So used, higher trim 2020 or any model 2021. 2019 was still missing a lot of the safety tech and should be avoided. 4: Ride. The ride is Buick soft. Driving the CRV felt bouncy, and the seats were god-awful in the Ford. 1600 mile road trip in two days and no back pain.
@@dfjsdz 1600 mile road trip to Texas in two days and was able to walk around at the end versus a day on my back recovering. Soft enough, supportive enough, won't beat you up too much on long drives. Solid 6-7 out of 10. ( most of GM is a 2-3 by comparison )
Definitely in the market for this vehicle. The exterior & interior looks good. And I heard the 2.0L engine has 252 horsepower. Which sounds ample enough. To drive the way I drive.
Rick C You will find it very difficult to find the perfect vehicle. If you like this vehicle (except for push button knobs) , go ahead anyhow and lease it, you’re not buying it. I do feel the same as you but I think you will not miss the traditional stick and knob. I’be got this on my list as an option to lease as well. The vehicle offers so much value to compensate for the loss of the stick and knob.
It not as bad as you think, I'm not a fan of it either. You'll be like what the hell for the first couple of times you use it you'll get use to it after a while...
You might have gotten a vehicle by now... But I would definitely get the Terrain over the Acadia. It just looks way better and I find the seating position and visibility in the Acadia very poor.
@@nic-li7rh I love the "Bulldog" looks of the Terrain. It is good, agile, and a perfect more utilitarian alternative to the bland CR-V and pricey RAV-4. You get used to the button shifter as quickly as you do in a video game. Put it in drive, forget about it.
I hate to sound like the guy below, but I have the 2018 Terrain with turbo diesel and love it. The Terrain is just a really nice suv and drives great. Very pleased with this vehicle. I've owned a lot of different vehicles including many that came from Germany and like this Terrain as much as any of them costing way more.
I own the 2019 terrain with the turbo Diesel engine option and I love it, gets pretty good mpg with it! I was really disappointed when I learn that GMC was going away with the Diesel engine option after 2019, cause my wife wanted one but I guess we will have to go a little bigger like 2021 Yukon at4 model that has the diesel option!
I've got the Cherokee Since 2012, it's a really great car but it lacks luxury IMO. I'm plannig to buy GMC terrain 2020 or Chevrolet Trail blazer 2020. What do you think?
Jeeps are basically FIATS, I have the 2020 GMC Terrain, I like it but they are made in MEXICO,GM is all about the profit, not fixing problems. I have the small Turbo- don't think that's a good thing. Wish I would have bought an Acura or Lexus. I was trying to be THRIFTY ! In the end I think I will basically be buying 2 Terrains VS 1 Acura or Lexus.
I have this exact model same color same everything but I love my GMC terrain but I’m also considering a bronco I don’t know what to do I need help do I keep GMC or change it for a bronco
The blind spot/active 360 degree radar is a must. And it really works well. It even alerts you to vehicles that approach rapidly or tailgate you suddenly - so it's not just the front and sides while driving. That said, your mirrors on the side should always be pointed at your blind spots. They could be larger, but the two systems together make maneuvering almost (truly) idiot-proof.
I dislike that Nissan Murano rear panel with useless window. And that shift lever must eat the cake for worst way to change transmission modes in any car. I just can’t see any one buying this in place of a RAV-4 or CRV. Even the interior black on black looks such a sad place. So sad GM.
I agree the shift buttons are the worst idea they could’ve possibly come up with. I’ve driven the new RAV and while I like it a lot, especially with the hybrid that gets 40mpg combined, the Terrain feels more refined and has a nicer ride. But Toyota and Honda sell a ton more RAVs and CRVs than GM sells Terrains - it’s not even close!
@@1515cci I just did 800 miles a day with two people cross country. ~400 miles a day each, switching off, and zero back pain. Like.. never had that happen except in an old 1960s Mercedes with those old sofa seats and balloon tall tires.
It is standard on all 2021s, though they have it under a different name, being GM and all. *Technically the very base trim doesn't have it but you'll never find one FS on any lot that isn't a SLT or SLE.

Never thought about buying a GMC, but after renting one, I'm considering it
I thought the same until I started working at a GMC dealership
Drove one of these as a rental for a week and loved it! Looks great, feels good to drive, felt like a beast

jesus this is a long response, thank you tho lol
I'm currently renting the same vehicle just extended my rental a couple of days because I like the Terrain...
How comfortable is the driver seat ?/10.
Thanks

I recently just bought one (a 2021) in blue emerald metallic. It is my favorite car yet!
I went checked out the 2021 today and fell in love.
I work at a GMC dealership. It feels nice inside and out I really hate the transmission buttons
We plan on getting a 2021 satin steel SLT terrain with elevation package in a couple of months, can’t wait!

Which do you like better? Subaru Forester and terrain?
I own a 2020 sle...LOVE IT!
How is it now?
I liked the economic 1.5 model.
great review dude, looking into buying this
I was thinking of leasing this but I can't stand the thought of the push button shifter!
Love the push button shift.
I’ve grown accustomed to it.

I passed my road test today and this model is on my mind. I just contemplating on this or the Acadia
The Acadia is apparently built a bit worse, handles more clunky, and for the money, you are better off with a 4Runner.
You might have gotten a vehicle by now... But I would definitely get the Terrain over the Acadia. It just looks way better and I find the seating position and visibility in the Acadia very poor.

Just got my 2017 terrain Denali awd 3.6 with towing hitch. . 2020 looks nice 🤔
Very detailed love that. I ordered 2022 SLE with the sunroof.
I have the diesel! Great! Wife's work car. Great MPG!
Renting this car right now and after a back injury it’s comfortable

Great review the Terrain Denali is on my short list it's a great looking suv. Can you tell me the song you used on your intro thanks.
Just got the 2020 a nice ride!

I am financing my first vehicle for the first time. And its going to be a GMC terrain 2020.
Is this as good as the Honda or Subaru version? Thank you 🌲🕯🎅🎶
Would you recommend GMC Terrain or Jeep Cherokee ?
I've got the Cherokee Since 2012, it's a really great car but it lacks luxury IMO. I'm plannig to buy GMC terrain 2020 or Chevrolet Trail blazer 2020. What do you think?

Are those any good?
Do you think the new 1.5 turbo in this one is faster than than the one in the 2016 terrain 2.4 cylinder naturally aspirated
The rear side windows look kinda small. Are there blind spots?

Led head lights ?
Great Job !
I don’t like that they don’t provide the 360° camera as an option, doesn’t make any sense to me
Is it quiet on noisy roads?
Needs a V6.
That’s what I thought
Until I punched the turbo
Thank you
I’m leasing a 19 LD after the lease is up the terrain Denali will be next except own not lease
There’s a heap of Terrain’s stuck on that ship in the St Simon Sound
What I got from the video: "but the 2.0 turbo"
Please tell me what kind of car wax you use on your x5 diesel
No more 2.0 liters in these after the 2021 model year!!
I bought a 2020 SLT and honestly hated it. Very stiff and felt too much like a truck for me. I had to trade it in.
The test drive
It looks like a volvo
Bro u took my fathers name
F.u

There’s a move to electronic shifting. I noticed this on the higher level trim of a Honda Accord whereas the lower trim has a stick shift.
The Test Drive I agree with the Terrain ride. Seats are so comfortable I could drive it for hours on end.

Blind spot monitoring a deal breaker for cause that's really old n cheap feature to have by now so I'm out for gmc
