I'm starting to seriously doubt all the "car experts" on UA-cam. They said this Terrain wouldn't sell well because of the shifter. And the 2018 model year is the highest selling of any Terrain.
I know right?! They’re full of it! My mom had the ‘18 terrain, & I now have ‘22 yr model, & we both agree it’s an awesome car than it gets nearly enough credit for! What are these car reviewers smoking?! 😂
You can turn off the auto start stop. Just push "L" on the shifter button panel, and keep pressing "+" until it reads 9. The Terrain won't "start/stop" anymore.
One way to get around the auto start-stop is to either, put it in Neutral before coming to a stop, or slowly stop the car, instead of a normal application of brake, slow it right down then start feathering the brake, use almost no brake when it comes to a stop and the engine won't shut off.
Love that Lynn wore the plaid for this review! She has grown on me I didn’t like seeing anyone other than Micah in the beginning. Great job Lynn! You deserve an excellent salary.
The equinox is much better looking In my opinion. Out of the 3 the envision looks bland , the terrain is overstyled , while the equinox looks good. The equinox is definitely my favorite out of the 3.
My step-daughter bought one in January. Has spent almost as much time in repair, as it has on the road. Towed in after first week, wouldn't start. Said it was too cold. 2 weeks later, towed in, needed new control module. Wouldn't go into gear a week later, towed again. Spent whole month of February waiting for new transmission at 4 000 km. Has had 3 alignments, and new tires at 8 000 km. In May, back up camera display wouldn't stop displaying, constantly on. Needed new radio and dsplay screen. She just gets the run around from GM
Tell her to keep track and log everything that goes wrong with the vehicle and once it ends up going back to the dealership 3 times for the same issue, she can apply for lemon law and get her money back. GM already knows that a certain amount of these models coming out of the factory have some serious issues. The 3 big ones are #1 transmission failure, #2 electrical gremlins (GM techs are saying that the car just has too much electronic gadgetry), #3 engine failure. Because the current design was new in 2018, a lot of GM techs at the dealerships are also clueless about how to fix these issues. Once she hits that magical #3 of having the same issue repaired or in for service, after they do the repair she can let them know that she won't be in to pick up the vehicle because she will be invoking the lemon law. If she has a personal attorney they can draw up the paper work for her. She'll get her money back.
@@marketingmajor8126 too much tech? Such a l lame and pathetic excuse from GM. Japanese cars have nearly as much tech, but they don’t have their tech fail.
I wanted this car so bad in the slt but couldn’t get fiancing so my kids surprised me with a 2016 Equinox. I love it! I totaled my Toyota Camry last day in May! Still have neck and back pain!
Hey, GM cleaned up the icons and UI on their infotainment. Nice. The GMC switchgear seems nicely updated as well. But they continue to cheap-out on the boot (the sharp edges bit her and I'm not surprised given other GM vehicles).
Have to agree. I have a buddy who has auto s/s on a different vehicle but it cuts out the phone whenever we are talking and he rolls to a stoplight. It’s highly annoying for a relatively little gain in economy.
When they redesigned the Terrain they moved the production from alongside the Equinox in Canada to Mexico, one big reason to pick the Equinox over the Terrain.
I love my 2014 Terrain! Was thinking about keeping it and getting another one but I like the boxy design I have better. This looks like every other SUV!
Nice looking car, but the auto stop start would drive me crazy. I had a 2018 Chevy Cruze as a rental recently and the auto stop start made me think that the car broke down at first. I suppose one would get used to it after a while. I’m not much of an SUV fan, but I would consider looking at one of these. Good review :-)
Mike N I wasn’t a fan of SUVs either nor did I ever consider buying one when I was on the market looking for a new car. But of all the SUVs I eventually looked at, I found the new Terrain to be very practical and the ease of use of the interrior controls to be very intuitive. Clearly, the designers had this in mind as they were redesigning the interior, particularly the center controls. Compared to the outgoing and past center controls which I found to be too “busy, the set up for the 2018 was simple, with relatively small/medium buttons that didn’t look cluttered and are easily accessible. Handling, driving and steering is on point and very responsive. Some may find the drive a bit stiff but to me it’s quiet and smooth; and the Terrain absorbs the little and big bumps moreso than my Malibu ever did since it bounces one time only as opposed to the 2008 Malibu’s one and a half times. Turning radius on the Terrain also surprised me. It’s up to par to that of my old Malibu.
This is one of the more reasonable reviews I have seen thus far, but I just hate that it seems GMC is only sending the Denali version out for review. The Denali trim is I simply a horrible value. In the mid trim level the Terrain has a little more to offer than the Equinox without getting overly pricey. I like the infotainment system and the button/toggle shifting array is quite functional once you get used to it. While the start/stop feature cannot be turned off, the driver can choose to have the engine engaged immediately after stopping by releasing the brake and reapplying it. With the Denali version being too expensive for what it delivers, the big question for GMC is whether or not the Terrain has that little something extra in its other trim levels that will draw some buyers up from the Equinox.
LOLOL I thought of your Shirt when the tempeture 89 degrees appeared on the screen and full jeans UGH! I would of been sweating buckets. Where are you guys? L.A.? Great Review! I didn’t know the Terrain was priced that low!
I own a 2012 Terrain and was looking to trade up, but not being able to defeat the annoying start/stop feature in the new Terrain means I won't be buying a Terrain....or any other SUV that doesn't provide a means of turning off that "feature". What the hell were you thinking, GM?
Auto start-stop is not “healthy” for turbocharged cars, since the Turbochargers need a bit of time before you stop the car’s engine, and a bit of time to warm up.
Is anyone experiencing poor heating during idle in cold winter conditions below 20 degrees? My wife claims that when she idles somewhere waiting in the car that the heat drops off precipitously.
My last car had front cup holders positioned like this in this car and I hated that because my thigh always hit against whatever bottle was there. My current car has it the other way which was confusing until we designated who gets which one every time.
@@sheilahouston8242 that is because the oil formula has changed or the oil is not getting changed at all on the old 2.4l. We had a Terrain 2.4 on lease for 40K miles and never had any issues at all. Never burned oil even when turning 5,200 rpms over the Rockies and back!

I leased an amazing 2015 Terrain before getting a 2019 Terrain. I had no idea how far down hill a vehicle could go in so few years. My AWD is a complete piece of crap. The start/stop thing is so freakin rough every.single.time. you.stop. It's been in for service 4 times since I got it because it tends to do nothing when you step on the gas then speed off with no warning. This thing is so dangerous and they know it that's why it's down to $179.00 a month now. I'm spending twice that a month for the same SUV so they can ditch them all b4 it all comes out. If you're thinking about getting this you may want to try something else.

I’ve gotten used to the electronic shifter. Not a big deal. One generally shifts twice from P to D and later from D to P. I have to admit the Start/Stop is a nuisance but I have managed to softly apply the brakes until the car stops but not press the pedal far enough to engage the Start/Stop system. I have the diesel so I’ve yet to shift the gears to L6 and see how that goes.

You won me over! Because of your opening sentence I was a sceptic all the way thru. Clever, funny and more importantly a great review!
I test drove it and found it to be loud. I opted for the quieter and smoother ride offered by the GMC Acadia
Acadia still using the problematic motor that kills timing chains?

Calvin Sanders for the seconds smallest one at that!
$45k can get you a nice XT5.
45k for a non-luxury brand compact SUV, GM must be crazy
wtyisgreat GMC is a “luxury” brand
It is the upscale Denali trim/sub-brand
Remember, GM does have lots of incentives, so no one really pays the MSRP.
