I agree I like the watch and learn videos. Mark reminds me a lot of Johnny Ball in the UK. He made a series of programmes in the 70s that had a scientific theme to them. I believe a lot of people were inspired to pursue science because of him.
Have you done a video on the various MOVEMENTS that are used in the variety of wristwatches (from the very expensive to cheapest) available? I would like to know about Rolex, Mido, Rado, Tissot and Hamilton, specifically. Thanks
My prayers were answered. Thanks for putting up this video. I actually just bought a second hand Sinn 756 which is very similar in looks. Both great watches.
Really good info, love the simplicity yet complications of what makes a Damasko a Damasko. Very cool! Maybe someday I'll own one but for now I certainly appreciate them!
Another great video Mark, but just to be precise and perhaps a bit picky, brass is a none magnetic metal so the protection is for other metals used in the mechanism.
You said that Si indicates a silicon escapement. But you only discussed the silicon balance spring. Are the escape wheel and pallet fork (the other parts of the escapement) also silicon? If not, then you misspoke. ;-)
Lume question, under normal circumstances is the dial bright enough to be a distraction ? Charged with the studio lights its way to bright for day to day wear .
Mark! By far this is the best watch video ever !! By Anyone!! Brilliant work!!! Isn't this also how Rolex movements are regulated? Is the Sinn Diapal similar to this technology?
Very interesting video. I’m curious, how do you think these Silicon hairsprings will be over time? Damasko makes some really impressive watches. I recently got my first Damasko, a DSub 1. Very impressive watch with the submarine steel.
Nice watch. But l like something bigger. XL diameter, 45 mm or 48mm but not oversized. The dead line for me is 50mm. Preferably Pilot 👩✈️ or diver style. Any advice?😊
SI OR NOT I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED These. Silicone also self lubricates and stays way more accurate due to this. Rather have this than a Rolex! (next to a spring drive)
Hulk GTI : Sinn tegimented steel is harder on the surface than Damasko’s ice-hardened steel, but suffers from eggshell damage. “Sinn‘s surface hardened (tegimented) stainless steel is 1200 HV, Sinn‘s tegimented U-boat steel is 1500 HV. Damasko‘s (through and through) ice hardened cases are 760 HV”. From forums.watchuseek.com/f8/whats-harder-sinns-tegimented-steel-vs-damaskos-ice-hardened-4050290-2.html
Swatch have silicon hairsprings in some of their Powermatic 80 movements. The Tissot Ballade can be had for $550 (grey market) - COSC chronometer with silicon hairspring and 80 hour PR. I hope this tech really takes off.
I hate to say it but the 7750 is a very old movement. Of course, the watch will be thick. It takes up a lot of space. Your years of Engineering school really comes in handy in explaining different complications how they work, the physics of it. I hope you will make more Watch and Learn videos. The movement is very interesting and how complicated the watchmaking can be. I would not dare try to regulate that that either. Chronographs in general non-quartz are very expensive to service.
Mark, how much 'shock' can those automatic chronos really take? If you're taking it backpacking, constantly using the chronograph when timing your workout, going whitewater rafting with it on a nato strap, is it going to hold up? The DC5x/6x's look amazing btw. Really love the dial layout more than the sinn counterparts. Seems to be easier to read.
You know by now how much I love Damasko and a DA43 black is my next watch. I knew the Si versions were modified but until now I was not sure how. Been honest I liked the pop of red on the face of the DC67 Si, however don’t really need a Chrono so hence the DA43. Thanks for the education Marc.
I’m afraid I would find it irresistible to become one of “those guys” and spend a lifetime boring people to death telling them what the little SI meant on my watch they’ve never heard of.
Marc, I gotta be honest... the 'anti-magnetic' movement in this watch is a solution to (at least for me) a non-existent problem. However, you did such a great job with explaining it (like those college professors you actually WANTED to hear lecture), that I not only made it all the way to the end of your video, but I also really want one of these watches now! Kudos! 👍😎
Unfortunately, that’s not true anymore because of all the electronics. I took off my watches and leave them next to my phone and phone case. Modern phones have powerful magnets and they magnetized my watches. They started to run fast and I had to demagnetize them.
@Michael Newman: They are definitely not a Sinn rip-off. I went to the Sinn factory, tried several of their watches, was determined to buy one and tried really hard to love them. But no, Sinn is just not for me and I currently own 3 Damasko watches and will for sure get their DC86 Chrono, as soon as it is available.
I really dont like that watch dial, just too plastery looking white black and grey case, needs a pinch more colour idk just maybe a cream dial just so bad hurts my eyes But I mean its gorgeous all other then the colours
@@islandwatch it reminds me of that little 50$ seiko 5 and an IWC which really beautiful and cool, I wasnt trying to be an ass home sorry, I just didnt like the colours but if their was a creme or black dial then I'd love it, I just PERSONALLY cant get used to that blinding white, it throws me off
I’ve got SI on my dial, but it is followed by NN!
Well then you obviously have double Nitrogen hands too
LOL. Still nice!
ahahaah both watches are great!
Nicely done 👍
@@hgr.7857 Thanks!👍🏻
I can not afford this watch but please do more videos with opening the case and showing the movement...
Okay, thanks!

Marc; I'm impressed. A Milgauss chrono. Iron core Faraday cage. All the technology for less $.
Yup. Cool tech!
The Tissot Ballade Powermatic 80 COSC also has a silicon balance spring and like all Tissots it's very affordable, coming in under $1000.
Great video Marc, buying a Damasko (with the bracelet) is on the list for sure.
Excellent!
Nice tutorial Marc! Excellent macro work!!! Bust open some more! 👍👍👍
Haha, will do!
Is it serviceable without the regulator?
Such a simple, legible, perfect dial
Great walkthrough!

Love the watch and learn. Makes me even more appreciate the engineering marvel they are.
Thank you!
On their website the DC57 doesn't show SI, but costs $2500. Did they remove the SI branding?
Why no lumeshot? But amazing watch!
Sorry!
I wish I could afford to make you an offer!😍 i can’t believe you took the back off of that watch!😱
Don't worry!
beautiful watch. Very interesting material science. Thanks for your great videos.

Just check out the Damasko and LIW websites...are the Si models no longer offered?
Really wish they still had the si available for sale 😢
My Omega Speedmaster Racing Co Axial Chronograph got the Si it’s pretty cool 😎
Coolness
why no lume shot? great looking watch
@Hulk GTI thank you

Very interesting look inside the masterpiece. Just hoped for a quick lumeshot at the end!
Sorry!
Just watching your videos is like a refresher course in physics!
600 Bucks more for a silicon hairspring seems excessive!
Lume question, under normal circumstances is the dial bright enough to be a distraction ? Charged with the studio lights its way to bright for day to day wear .
It will certainly be noticed, but it's not like a flashlight.
I love my Damasko (DC56) I need that ice bracelet one day. 😁
You sure do!
Hi Mark, is this watch still for sale?

Be-Cu alloy for the bearings is a nice touch.

Silicon, not silicone. In other watches, similar/same.

hello mark, i have a noob question. does this mean that this movement are more accurate and more reliable than rolex movement?
Neither, really. It's just great tech.

Can you make a video on those Citizen Promaster titanium automatic divers you've got for sale at about 400$?They seem pretty attractive.

Very nice watch. Wish I had the funds for it.
Good to dream!
Is it titanium?
Dag Sabot no, it’s an ice hardened stainless steel. It’s a special treatment that damasks does.

Marc when is this watch going on sale?
Never!
When anyone complains why watches are so expensive.
Sit down son, it is time for you to expand your vocabulary.
Does Rolex implement a similar hairspring?
I don't think so.
Long Island Watch In fact, Rolex released its new silicon/silicon composite Syloxi hairspring in their cal. 2236 in 2014 in the Datejust Pearlmaster

As always, interesting video. A watch band for $700. My only question is why?
The finishing and machining is second to none.
Because they can?
Why not have a skeleton rotor and displace back, the movement is very nice.

Yes, it is a similar patented process.
