"Schmierstoffzelle" on the caseback literally means "lubricant cell" and according to Damasko refers to their patented system which provides long-lasting lubricant film on the crown stem, so it is indeed lubricated.
Wrong Time Watch Even the word for lubricant, "Schmierstoff," comes literally from "Schmieren" which means "greasing" (think of the word "smear" in English, a Germanic language) and "Stoff" meaning "substance." Greasing substance. German is super literal: take the word for skunk (Stinktier: "stinky animal") or sloth (Faultier: "lazy animal").
Was dreaming about this particular one. Ended up being a big crush. So I pulled a trigger and unfortunately was out of stock. My mental downturn was massive so I bought something similar - IWC mark XVIII. No lume though, but I am still happy with how it looks and feels after few years.
@Random Rob Damasko's sealing on crown and also chrono pushers allow usage even under water. I'm not aware of any other watch manufacture allowing this ...
Apparantly they are fully transitioning to in house movements. According to Watchmann late spring/early summer is when they expect more inventory. He didn't have any more details but if the DK series is any indicator I expect prices to increase by several hundred dollars. LongIsland still has a few.
I love lume dials, but I couldn't do it at retail price. I mean, I can't currently justify any watch at that price, regardless, but I also feel like $1k is starting to knock on the door of what some people would consider a grail watch with more brand recognition. Still...that watch is very well done. It's a tough call.
The butterfly clasp is really good on this bracelet it has ceramic ball bearings and none of the deployment buttons stick out (there aren’t any it’s very secure friction). Trust me this one is much better vs other German bracelets
Sold the bracelet on my DA36. Could never get a good fit, zero micro adjust and after 2 years the watch head was unblemished but bracelet was super shiny in many spots. Really detracted from the watch. Up side was that I sold the bracelet easily at a shockingly high price! Paid for a Tissot PRX with money from bracelet
Im German watch fan I have a damasko and a bunch of Sinn's. Your right for companies that overbuild and put tons of tech into their watches, they both need to upgrade their clasps. If they both made a clasp that was like the Tudor Pelagos, it would be game over. Sinn makes a fine link bracelet that i have with a butterfly clasp and I actually much prefer it over their standard clasp. Yeah it takes a little longer to put on but its insanely comfortable.
Got my DA47 and bought bracelet for it as well about six months ago. I rarely take it off...it is that nice. My Datejust 16200 is the only other one vying for my attention these days.
I purchased a DA-47 and was really bummed. I bought it for for the awesome bezel and guess what....it is misaligned! That along with the bad orange peel on the black numerals on the dial and I don't even wear it. :-(
I agree. Or the reverse. The islander aviator style in black caught my attention so I picked it up due to the same reason. So visible, from across the room even.
The Damasko has been on my radar for quite some time. I myself am looking for a non-bezel watch. I have a couple of nice divers, and a few nice G-shocks, but i am growing tired of fighting the watch and the cuff of my shirts. As i grow older ( hopefully wiser ) i know i'm getting grumpier, and less tolerate, when the watch snags on the cuff of my watch, it's really starting to upset me. With all the craziness in this world, i'm getting upset whether my watch fits under the cuff well, yeah i know, but it is what it is. Again Rob, great review as always.
I've had a crush on Damasko for years, but the bracelet situation kills it for me. One you add that in you're close to $2k and the competition gets steep.
At 2k nothing comes close to the quality and technology you will get from Damasko . Nothing . Even a similar priced watch from sinn with its tegimented case and bracelet is 800 dollars more , plus the bracelet isnt as good . The only thing that comes to quality , fit , finish for the price are certain breitlings that you can pick up new for around 2-2.5k , such as a colt or an avenger , and again the bracelet is not as good .
How does you bezel line up? As per my other comment, I'm am so bummed out that my bezel is off and the black numerals on the face have such bad orange peel that I don't even wear my $1400.00 watch :-(
It is a shame they have those black lines on the dial. Makes it harder to read the dial - not sure why they would do that. Also would be better if they used Musou Black rather than a reflective gloss black. For me, this would be the perfect watch if they removed the lines, no second hand, removed the day/date, used non reflective black paint. But I know my tastes are an outlier.
And why not be on a white dial kick? White dial watches are easier to read. I was thinking about this the other day, and realized that darker dials are essentially negative displays (think of the negative display Casios). The problem is that black dials look way cooler - but they are just harder to read! Beautiful watch, Rob.
I have a DA 43 and love it. I might be one of the few people who did not like the bracelet. I found it to be uncomfortable and I could not get a good fit without micro adjust. I did not like that it does not taper and did not like the butterfly clasp.
I too have been seriously considering a new Damasko with a new vulcanized rubber strap from Bonetto. So many options in the 900 to 1500 range....tough choice. Especially when my most expensive is just a Mido that retails for 920 but I definitely didnt pay 950. Brand new was 625 out the door. I want a new and nicer watch
@@Angry_Gnome Yes that is what I understand but I don’t see why they cannot still have very similar watch faces to this. The website for three handers only shows non numeral baton hour markers on the faces. Not as attractive as this watch in my opinion.

"Would the Damasko interest you?"
Dude, this Damasko definitely interests me.
It's freaking awesome!
Yes that one would can you get it?
Oh how I LOVE Damasko. Truly wonderful 😍
This watch brand need more recognition
I agree

I know you may not like their bracelets because of the butterfly clasp, but it is one of the most comfortable I've ever owned.
This was all I needed, I've been eyeing up these, in black dial, for some time
Gorgeous, Love it. Surprised at the price, was expecting it to be more expensive.
Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
As soon as Damasko put out an Arabic dial in the Ocean Blue.....SOLD! 😍 I would love a 4x series in the blue dial.
That watch and strap looks perfect on your wrist.

Tell Art to send it my way. Love it.
He may sell it

Damasko seems to be out of stock everywhere, except for a handful of models. Nice review of the watch. They make some special pieces!

@@arbitraryalias9825 An in house movement that I cant get serviced locally and a higher price makes it impractical for me. :(.
@@jeffone My thoughts exactly. I was trying to buy a DA47 but after watchman gave the bad news I settled for the last DA37 from long island.
RR: Off the subject, but...I found a G-Shock I like, theGRB200-1A9. Your thoughts, comments, etc. if you please. Thanks 😊
I’ve been wearing my damasko DA44 on the bracelet for months now and I love it.
A phenomenal review. Good Stuff Bro.
Love the German engineering. I'm looking at purchasing the DC58 chrono.

It is a tough call, I bought my Damasko da44 for $1400 on leather.
I think it was worth it but no brand recognition.
Bought one yesterday and have to wait another 4-6 week because i choosed some customizing...🙈

I like white dial watches, easier to read at a glance.

Own the DA35 (prefer without numerals), its a tough little bxtch. Lovely watch, robust, comfortable, lume glows like a torch. Great buy.
👍🍻
Love that dial. I just got a Junkers Flatline Dresden. You should check it out
what is the difference with the DK37?
if not mistaken the leather strap is made by di-modell..chronissimo..well known and high quality
Great review. “...want all watches”, yep!
There is nothing I don’t like about that watch. The bracelet would be out of reach for me, but the watch is a keeper! Nice review Rob!
Lo prenderò, versione DK37
Damasko makes killer watches. I have the DA47. One of my favorite watches

Great God! That lume!!!
Great watch, Sinn keeps bumping up their prices making these look even better. Seems like their crows stick out a lot, any issues on wrist?
It can be issue if you are not use to it. I have gotten use to crowns.

Just put a Bonetto rubber on my Damasko DC80. Perfection!
I'm all about the yellow dial myself, but white is nice too....
The strap is made by Di-Modell Chronissimo.
Thank you
I thought your knife was a civivi... until you picked it up and said the name.
Nothing wrong w white dials; keep them coming.
Like minimalist GER designs, but not this one and def not at that price.
It's a banget
Damasko don’t seem to have this model in their range any more. Three hands with arabic numerals are missing.
I think they’ve stopped making all of their ETA movement watches as they switch over to in-house. It’ll probably be back...with a higher price tag.
Interesting... I wonder why.
Watchmann still has it on their website as a "call to order". Whether or not Damasko has stock is another question.
