  • Patrick Bet-David delves deep into the complex relationship between morality, law, prayer, religion, and government control. Join us as we discuss how oppressive governments fear and sometimes suppress religious beliefs, drawing historical references from figures like Mao, Stalin, and Karl Marx. We analyze different religious perspectives on moral issues like same-sex marriage, adultery, and stealing, comparing Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, and Hinduism.

I disagree religion is not love of god, it’s corrupted god, I’m not saying there is no good in religion. So I will give examples from religions other than yours as you will understand easier. Torah. Why would god ask us to make a burnt offering of a lamb? What’s a lamb? A lamb is a child or a lamb, both are his creations so this contradicts love god as god is all. Islam Mohamed and the Mohamed dans crushed the above people hiding in the Jews that were killing babies and putting the burnt offerings (holocaust =burnt offerings) in bread and wine destroying them, but the Koran teaches the opposite about Mohamed, lies that were constructed 100 years later by Umar and Rome. There are similarities with Christian religions if this was not the case why erase half the books? You won’t find god in religion, community yes but you don’t need religion for that.

A government that fears religion is a government with a strong tyrannical impulse. Religion means a higher moral authority above the government and a government that fails to recognize that will tend to assert itself in that supreme position. But unless good and right transcend the state then the state cannot claim for itself what it declares to be good and right. It would have no objective authoritative "good" and "right" to legitimize the state declarations or any valid moral premises on which to base it's policies.

I recently watched a documentary about the fall of the Soviet Union. Old churches closed for decades reopened and people flocked back into them but they did not know how to pray. Some volunteers had kept the traditions alive and taught their fellows how to pray. It was heartbreaking to watch.

    • @Christian-uj1mq

And way more people never went back to religion, because they realised they have a moral and fulfilling life without it. And some of those soviet nations are the most Atheistic countries now.
Soviet Communism is an against religion because they realise a lot of it was just a mechanism used by kings ,Tzars and oligarch to keep them oppressed. The same way plantation owners in the south did. If someone had used the bible and god to oppress and enslave you wouldn’t really come out of it trying to be Christian.
Not saying religion is wrong but am just saying that religious people should understand individual can abuse that faith to do terrible things aswell.

    • @rarescevei8268
      @rarescevei8268 5 місяців тому

@@Christian-uj1mqMate, religion wasnt used by the Tsars to control the masses. The peasants were serfs and were controlled by the local governor. There was no point in trying to control them in some sorts of ways, when they already were literarly enslaved. In fact, Christianity was and is associated with rise of democratic ideals in households across Europe, so if anything, it undermined the Tsars.
Also, plantation owners gave black slaves heavily altered Bibles for obvious reasons.
Also, none of those former Soviet countries are mostly atheist. The majority of them have extremeley minor levels of atheism. These nations are either Christian or Muslim. Not even close to quarter atheist population.
Also, everyone, religious or not, knows that individuals can lie and distort the faith to further their own ends. Take it from me, the people who hate islamic extremists most are Muslims.
Now, I ask that you please explain to me how the bible was used to control the masses as you claim.

@@menacemini4894 Well if owning human beings is not good then 'good' must be objectively real not merely a subjective construct. An advancement in moral judgements is possible only if there really is an uncreated, self-existent Moral Law that enables moral judgements of good and evil to be correct. Otherwise to say owning slaves is contrary to what is good is merely to say something about one's own private, subjective feelings that have no relevance beyond the self. It's quite possible religious people thought it okay to own slaves but but the condemnation of slavery is valid only if the condemnation is ultimately Supremely Good and Supremely Right.

The new covenant with God is for the law to be written in our hearts, so that's where morality begins. Then teaching yourself and family about your faith, its history and impact, then practicing it. We all tend to ebb and flow, and when we pay attention, we'll find it is better when we're actively connecting with God through prayer, good works and lifting each other up. Like a lot of what you do, Patrick. You're a really good role model.

I can hear all the atheists reading this "We were not a Christian Nation!!!". Hah, read the statements of the founding fathers and writers of the constitution (Which makes us a Republic of Sovereign states, NOT a democracy), they if they were alive today would vehemently disagree. The reason Christianity is the superior life goal is that it gives each individual an AUTHORITY over them instead of them being their own authority. True freedom has boundaries and responsibilities.

Morality comes from a lot of things. Genetics, your upbringing, where you grew up, things that happened to you, if you were shown love, who your friends were, experiences, influences, your own opinion after you try and figure out the world, your health, what you were eating ect.. Some people are born a certain way, they never like pizza no matter what. Some people have the perfect upbringing but become serial killers. They just like the thrill of killing and love torturing people. Morality has to do with a lot of things but when it comes down to it, it's mainly something you're born with. It's basically common sense and empathy. Natural law. Some people no matter how good they have it just don't give af.

Responding to the question before continuing the video: morality is negotiated between individuals and the community. How do we facilitate communial relations, well-being of the group and autonomy of the individual. Too much control you have autocracy to much individual autonomy you have chaos. To think "religion is the root of morals" is too simplistic because religion, at the institutional and individual level, have done despicable acts. Also same applies to secular institutions and philosophies. No matter the creed, faith, philosophy, belief ect. They are all coruptable and can cause harm. The philosophy of morality i embrace the most is stoic. One should embrace challene and grow stronger in character. To do good without expectation of reward because virtuous action better the world for all.
EDIT: and as an atheist i do not agree with the whole "you are morally sound because your religious parents raised you right." I disagree plenty on the moral level interms of my family and the parts we agree are so generalized that they are universal maxims of morality (ie: murder is wrong)
