The boys in Obscura have amazing taste in music! Death, Atheist, AND Cynic?
and they got their name from Gorguts, nothing better than that
Yeah I never hear my boys in Atheist being shouted out enough. Piece of Time and Sound of Perseverance were some of the first metal albums I bought, I'm only 23 now.
+ morbid angel
I love Cynic.. This cover is very good.
This is a great cover, and Obscura is a great band made up by great musicians.
I think it sounds really good in my opinion. And it can't be easy to cover a band like Cynic.
Most epic intro of all time
Anyone complaining about how this one isn't as good as the original, stfu. You can't actually expect anyone to be as good as Cynic. It's a good cover. There's a lot that i don't like, but I DO like how the vocorder effect sounds in this, and the chapman stick too.
They want it to sound exactly the same.
That's not possible though
You're right, vocoder here is killer
I like this version more because of vocals
I never understand complaints like that lol. There's no point in covering a song if you're trying to make it sound exactly like the original. If that's what you want just go listen to the original then?? The whole point of a cover is to here a new artist interpreting the song in their own way
i love cynic and thought it would be shit but its a great cover. true to the original with their own flavor
how could I say I don't like this cover?
3:43 Amazing, excellent tone!
Indeed. Juicy.
3:43
The more I get into this band the more reasons I discover why they are quickly becoming my favorite band and I’m bummed I slept on them this long.
Or Gorod's cover of "Textures" it was simply amazing. Obscura did a fantastic job. Hope they come to the states soon!
im obsessed by this cover
IMO it's not worse or better, it's just different. Excellent work.
I got to see them live last year for my birthday, and it was awesome af
Awesome how was it? I missed their recent show near me sadly😭
@n0ah_m309 they sound great live man, tight and right on time, go to their show next time you won't regret it
A very fitting tribute. I always considered obscura to be the true continuation of bands like death, cynic and atheist. Excellent!
did a good job of the cover for real. obscura and cynic are to of my favorite bands as well as some of my greatest inspiration when writing my own music on guitar and drums. great musicians. id love to see a cynic obscura tour come to the u.s. maybe even like mastodon or gojira thrown in there. id oay big to see that.
How a cover should be done. Paying a tribute to an awesome band by adding their own flair to one of their most epic songs!
How did I not hear this? Love this take on this classic
just on another nostalgic music spree
So sick. Proof that the closing solo is sex for the ears no matter who plays it.
OMG this is actually good!
Hannes Grossmann kills that drum kit at 03:00
For YEARS I cited Cynic as my favorite "1-album-band", then they released Traced in Air. But this cover is amazing, up to par with the original
Obscura actually did a fantastic job with this cover, saying cynic can't be covered is ignorant and somewhat biased. You should give Obscura props for covering such an amazing song.
You guys didn't pick an easy song, but I think you nailed it. Well done!
4:07 WHY does the tone of the soil change here? This gives me shivers, urrrgg
Because they completely fucked it up, and yes it certainly does give me the shivers too! 0:42 they repeat the riff rather than the proper variation, 3:50 the bends are a semi-tone too low, 3:58 is 5 semitones too high and then yeah at 4:09 the just totally murder it. You can even call it "artistic licence" if a drummer like me can spot it, how on earth did these undeniably amazing musicians get it so wrong. I'm going to have to go back to the original to cleanse my ears im afraid........
Guy Snowden
Yeaaaah! This sounds wrong to me and very sad. That makes me sad.
"That makes me sad" I couldn't have put it better myself LOL!
they arent trying to play it the same....
whaaaaaaaaa, it's not an exact replica of the original. Whaaaaaaaaaaaa
3:43 fuckin yessss
I might get shit from this, but the outro section on this is way better than the original
They're both way to short in my opinion.
@@freeroommalmo2792 You should listen to the Cynic song Pleading for Preservation.
Great Job covering this one, I didn't expect anything less ! Can't wait for your future works!
This is amazing! Im a big cynic fan:)
This was epic, sure might not be as epic as the original duh it hard to do it but for their first recordings this is epic i wonder if the will do this cover again :)
this is fucking amazing.... the only thing better than Obscura and Cynic is Obscura playing Cynic.
Please visit the states!
Obscura come to the states please!
finally someone knows this band. They're so underestimated.
Not anymore :)
@@PROJECTJoza100beat me to it lol
@@n0ah_m309 i mean a lot of ppl know Obscura now.
i bought "omnivium" and "traced in air" at the same time.... this is cool as fuck.
From time to time I forget that I listened to this. Then I'm all like "yeah, a cover of How could I? from Obscura, that must be great". Then I listen to it and remember. That last solo should be a crime.
Hahahaha
NASTY!!!! Good intentions inside! THANKS
Steffen goin off with that outro solo
Very impressed me.
Oh my lord!
They fuckin' nailed it!
Hoooooly fucking shit! I usually hate covers of my all-time favourite tracks, but Oscura did a really good job on this one. And this track is a complete bitch to cover. Well done!
Deep thanks
awesome.
Perfection.
3:43 sounds very good
It's worth it if you have a good stereo... brilliant sound
YES!
How Could I". Well They could indeed \m/
I didn't know you guys had uploaded this officially lol
Dat solo.
Good music
This is stupid good
YES!!!!
The way it should be!
I love this cover so much but I’m not exactly sure what steffen is saying in certain parts it sounds like different lyrics but besides that awesome cover
I'm not saying it's a bad cover, but honestly, when I heard that Obscura did a cover of this tune, my expectations were very high. And it really did not meet my expectations. Hannes is such a great drummer, but holy crap does he ever sound stiff on this recording. The original will always be king to me.
Wow gotta say in surprised this exists
HOW could do you guys do this??? o____o its fuckin amazing!!!!
seein these fuckers monday!! YYYEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
What do they mean, "One of the first bands in extreme metal"? I hope that's a translation problem, because they weren't even founded until like 2002.
That is a Fucking AMAZING!! Obscura Rlz!
I live in Chicago man. That would be dope as fuck!
NICEE!!
YEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!
I wonder how they would sound doing an At the Gates cover?
FUCKING AMAZING!!!!
4:09 is the main difference
play this one with Death wednesday at colmar
Check out the cover of this song by Kalisia, and you'll find your wrong!
Now that ... is how to cover a song.
ravioli ravioli give me the formuoli
That outro though
I'm down dude we could even match.
Reminds me of Soundwave from transformers.
How is the drum kit didnt catch fire?
fuck yeah :)
dank
I love Obscura and think any song on Focus is great, I don't think the cover is shitty, but I think it pales compared to the original. I don't think Obscura should cover songs of the same genre because it doesn't really bring anything new to the song, at all.
Its cool you at least like the demos
Killer. I'd rather listen to this than the original.
I'll give you dudes my soul. Pls. T-T

'As one of the first bands in extreme metal, Obscura funded this release with the concept of crowd sources capital'
Two things:
1. Obscura were not one of the first bands in extreme metal. They even took their name from an earlier song by one of said bands.
2. They did not fund anything with a concept. I'm not sure if it's a foreign thing, but that wording is extremely weird and nonsensical.
They're one of the first the death metal band offering some high complexe and evolving melody, with changes in textures while staying in a extreme fashion, cynic was the first how put the idea, but to a "softer standard"
Prefer this over the original.
They seem to be better than Cynic in one aspect: Cynic had 3 vocalists on Focus and Steffen does all voals by himself
But its studio
Nothing compared to the original. Don't judge me, I like Obscura, but I think Cynic is a Band you can't cover, they're unique.
lol i take it you don't like at the gates
What sucks about it?
don't like them but i don't have anything against them
That's not hard to understand :P.
I disagree, Cynic is still better at their own songs :P
Great cover, but original is still unbeatable. Solo is not that accurate and rhytm guitar behind it is not that catchy.
Why would they play solo exactly like the original? That ruins the whole point of a COVER.
Amr Elseweifi Actually after a few listens I changed my mind about that, and now I like both solos almost equally.
The only thing good about Cynic is there demo days when they were an actual death metal band.
One of the most sterile, emotionless covers I've ever heard. You'd think a band would cover a song because, you know, they love it. Who doesn't love this song?
If Obscura loves How Could I, they just showed their love by bore-fucking it to sleep.
You fucking wot
Yeah its definitely not as good as Cynic, almost like emotion-less.
Wow.... They destroy this song for me as they destroy Lack of Comprehension.
***** - Pero es que el cover de Death es malisimo y más encima le cambian el excelente solo que tiene
Es un cover
Awful
Better than the original
