Wow... it's fascinating how music changes throughout time to our ears... I remember that when I was just getting into metal this song just sounded like noise... Now that I listen to this it's amazing One of the best (if not the best) death metal track in history
I remember being 13 yo and getting into Death Metal for the first time with Death album Individual Thought Patterns. Was just getting into meatl with Sepultura, Metallica, Megadeth and Pantera a year before. That Death album sounded cool to me but at the same time like you said "noise". It was fast, I couldn't get all that was going on. I had the perception that all songs sounded the same. Oh my that when you get to know more about music, getting your brain able to follow each instruments, and just getting used to complex stuff change how I listen to music and perceive these albums nowadays.
frrr i used to hate these type of songs until i forced myself to like them bc i wanted to see why some people liked these type of “ugly” songs next thing ik is that i bcome obsessed that its literally the only thing i listen to like these type of songs literally make me want to dance like it brings me adrenaline
Exactly how i felt. I'm a 54 yr old who used to listen to deep purple, rainbow, scorpions, iron maiden, bon jovi and those hard rock/hair metal and heavy metal bands from all those past yrs(early 80's to mid 2000).Then i discovered mors principium est,my very first melodic death metal band that i ever listened to and there's simply no turning back.Have to say at this moment obscura IS my favourite, top of the list!! I've been made fun of by friends for being too old for this genre, fuck that, who cares right? Death metal rules!!!
@@daninazriel Music transcends time as well as a person's age. Like what you like and fuck the judgers and haters. I'm 47 and I listen to damn near all of the bands that you mentioned and aton of really heavy shit. It's just who I am, just like it's who you are. No one can change us, but ourselves.
I'm religious (Russian Orthodox to be precise) and yet I perform, listen and live heavy metal each day. Listening to Metal does not make you a Satanist or hate God. People like you really get on my nerves and not only are you not helping yourself as a person, you're also shitting over Christianity and Religion in general. Well done.
Listening to this song today at 3 am, prolly after 3/4 years when I was crazy about Obscura. Feels like I've discovered this song for the first time again. I still can't forget the day I came to know this song, transcendental experience!
This is the greatest song that I have heard after I met my wife, this song is going to be the song that is played when my casket is getting lowered into my forever resting spot
***** My thoughts are the exact opposite to be honest. I do like the complexity of Gorguts compositions without being complete soulless wankery. But I can't stand bands like Obscura
I've listened to this song endlessly ever since they released it and it never gets old. THAT my friends is when you know you have a fucking fantastic band. This is so far my most anticipated album of 2011. A month and a half left!
I don't think I'll ever really *like* this style of music - but I can't help but be wowed by the speedy, technical playing and classical and jazz influences. Actually, this track reminds me of a mashup of classic/psychedelic rock, classical, jazz and newer rock, turned into one epic metal track. Cheers.
Bro just preorder the new Alkaloid and listen to The Radial Covenant if you haven't already. No need to fret at this point. Now we have 2 (really 3 if you count Hannes's solo output he's doing now) awesome musical artists releasing music instead of just one. :)
@Rcbquark My first introducrion to it was Steve DiGiorgio. I know he was playing "The Frog" in Death, but I seem to remember fretless in an earlier Sadus album but I could be mistaken. It changed my whole perspective on metal bass and I proceeded to convert an old Peavy bass to fretless. Thanks for pointing those other guys out,
Reminiscent of how battery by metallica starts up- classical sounding piece, then the electric guitars and drums kick in, then finally the explosive riff starts and the song's tempo rises sharply.
Ive listened to this song almost everyday. First time I listened to it I was thinking its ok, but now; I cannot get enough. Everytime i listen to it i hear something new or get a new feeling from it. Fuckin great job Obscura.
Where is everyone hearing death in this? All i hear is necrophagist, even when you look at the tabs you'd immediately think necro, i dont hear any death in this. Great band btw.
Yea, the instrumental work is faster and more technically rigorous like Necrophagist, but compositionally it has a lot more in common with death. A greater focus on melody, atmosphere, and progressive structures. Most Necrophagist songs are focused mainly on brutality and technicality, while there's a lot more melody and atmosphere here, they're more willing to slow things down and let the song breathe a bit, and there's a lot more of a prog influence, similar to later Death.
After listening to this more and more, I believe 100% that it's one of the best albums I own. The intro to this song, the first track, is awesome; and normally I'm not super interested in slow or light stuff, but it's awesome. I think they are a unique band you know. I still am not a huge fan of the clean vocals, but of course I understand their purpose. If Obscura wants it in their music, then that's the bottom line. They kick ass; super talented.
Arnold Moore they dont. For instance, the battery has a flamenco feeling (its played in phrygian mode -diminished 2nd over the natural minor scale and has some chromatic parts - the f# minor b7 chord) and its in the key of e minor. This is in the key of d minor (the different key is a huge difference), in the harmonic minor mode (raised 7th over the natural minor scale)
+Arnold Moore The melody is not the same and every other similarities you mention aren't a metallica discovery.Sorry my friend but i call all this bullshit.Let me ask you a question whats the similarity between the chorus riffs and any other metallica's riff..let me guess nothing. Please people stop saying in every fucking new masterpiece that is stolen by metallica's, of course Metallica is a legendary band but after the black album they were shit....
Arnold Moore dude... a "power chord" is defined as the chord consisting of root and its fifth(+inversions). Even the shittiest tab will tell you those are not roots and fifths =)))))))
I just got Onmivium and I have to say it is a musical master piece. The arrangements are nice...vocals are growlfully crisp. My only complaint would be that it needed 3 more tracks but that is a debate of it's own..all the greatest Metal albums have 8 or 9 tracks..Master Of Puppets,Rust In Peace,And Justice For All....etc....
Every metal band uses breakdowns, Slayer has them, Metallica has them, Judas Priest has them, Cannibal Corpse has them, Opeth has them, Death had them etc. But what people think of breakdown today is like you said, chuga-chuga *OUGGHHHH* breakdowns.
@MetalPhanatic666 It's the oublicity that they get and the same pulicity that the great bands are missing. That's why it's up to us to spread the good word unto our peers. But i totally agree, this band is amazing! one of my absolutely new favs.
this bass fills my heart with joy
fkin yes dude
Mine too.
Yes dude how could it not
it was so good that there aren't tabs for it...
Absolutely, the only other comparison is Hugo from Beyond Creation. That fretless bass sounds so heavenly
3:05 the moment I realised at 14 y/o that i was going to have to start playing bass
RIP
Pretty much
this makes me so sad. RIP bro
rip
wait who/what died?
This has to be their best song.
Truly one of the most memorable tech death works ever written, it has transcended time to this day
Pulling this off live must be daunting.
It is their best song. With incarnated in second place.
Without a doubt their best, an absolute masterpiece, probably the best melodic death metal track ever written.
Hey nice vehemence pic

Such emotion yet heaviness in the same song, such a masterpiece of writing!
This
Mate the bass is what makes it such a masterpiece

Hail SATAN!
I love the bass guitars. So awesome.
3:06 Begins one of the most amazing things that has ever graced my eardrums.
unbelievably perfect
Yeah man!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
that intro.
Look up "silent hill, promise" reprise
Not making fun, just saying, its another way to enjoy that, *feeling* the riff gives you
Imagine being a bassist and your bandmates tell you your gonna have your own bass solo and it will be heard
one of their best one in my opinion :)
This band has vexed me. Very killer metal. I'm so glad there is still innovation and boundary destruction like this to discover.
Obscura is great, the one and only true followers of Chuck Schuldiner's ideas.
Listening to this song today at 3 am, prolly after 3/4 years when I was crazy about Obscura. Feels like I've discovered this song for the first time again. I still can't forget the day I came to know this song, transcendental experience!
You could even call it... A Transcandental Serenade...
One of the greatest metal songs of all time !!! An absolute Masterpiece
The intro is pretty nice and all, but man, when that first riff kicks in at 1:10.....just completely awesome.
4:33 is probably one of my favourite riffs ever
What a masterpiece...
these guys are true artists .... there's no other way to describe their awesomeness. They're my favorite tech death prog metal band
This is a great piece of Death Metal. I feel sorry for the ones who think it's just noise. They don't know what they are missing ...
2:28 that transition gives off so much energy. My most favourite part 🔥
this is their best most melodic work
Tech Death at its finest
Celestial Spheres too.
One of the best songs ever written
Yeah you’re right
This is one of the best songs I ever heard in my life! This is truly perfection. No doubt about it.
One of the most talented bands in metal. Just brilliant.
This is the greatest song that I have heard after I met my wife, this song is going to be the song that is played when my casket is getting lowered into my forever resting spot
this albums intro and "the great misdirect"s intro are 2 ways of blowing your mind with beauty and awsomeness no other music offers
That into, eargasm.
Super Good! Look forward to a seeing a live performance!
All hails for the excellent bass work on this song. Wait to see them live.
OMG fretless bass again and better mixed, new compositions, new drum lines, new sticky melodic licks, OBSCURA IS BACK!!!
U mad I'm seeing Obscura live this Saturday?
Yeh u mad.
This intro is so good that it single handedly got my friend into obscura. I played it for him and now he's an even bigger fan of them than me lol
this fking intro.. omfg.
Over 10 years ago man... Wow. Time flies.
Still a masterpiece and a great lead single
this is so beautiful
Bruh I love the fast beats man
Obscura have a little of Gorguts(the name), Atheist(the technique) and Death (the voice).for tgis reason i love obscura :DD
Carlos Baena the name?
Obscura is also a great record of gorguts of technical death metal, with a sound many similar to obscura
Yes, and sometimes remember me to nocturnus
Carlos Baena You say that this band sounds like Gorguts's Obscura album ? Are you out of your mind ? That's like comparing Slayer to Dream Theater.
*****

@dudhala21 Wait til you hear the New Origin...lol its their best album by far ;)
I can only glean based on the time this was posted that you were talking about Entity here in which case I STRONGLY agree it's their best
Agreed. Entity is easily Origin’s best album
I don't think I'll ever really *like* this style of music - but I can't help but be wowed by the speedy, technical playing and classical and jazz influences. exactly !
Such amazing pieces of art these songs
Does anyone remember Metallica in their good old fays with this jaw dropping intro? Gives me the goosebumps
that is epic
i didnt think there could a new death metal band that isnt deathcore
New album called 'akroasis,' feb 5th 2016 release
+swamplord85
I sense questioning, dude the way he presented it was pure wisdom
these guys just keep getting better
:( Bye Hannes and Christian.

A band who writes albums for people who take the time to sit down and really appreciate metal music.
Reminiscent of how battery by metallica starts up- classical sounding piece, then the electric guitars and drums kick in, then finally the explosive riff starts and the song's tempo rises sharply.
Obscura's best album imo
Of course is the best album after "Cosmogenesis" dude

Ive listened to this song almost everyday. First time I listened to it I was thinking its ok, but now; I cannot get enough. Everytime i listen to it i hear something new or get a new feeling from it. Fuckin great job Obscura.
POP POP POP POP Goes the snare drum
This is such a masterpiece! I hope to see them live one day...
BEst song ever hands down
I can easily agree on this \m/
my bro
@mauritia i defiantly know what you mean and i do sometimes miss the old cob but i still love their new stuff
i can imagine this song being played as two armies march to war. epic.
they are getting better from one album to another
They spelt Exclusive wrong. Lol.
wut?
@@michapawelczyk2485 they have spelled the word "exclusive" wrong, you can see it when you look at the bottom and find that word.
IDK what you're talking about, the album used to be lusive, but now it's exlusive ;)
Maybe they are endorsed by Reebok. "Flexibilty" and all the spectacular errors they did for their UFC apparel.
You spelled spelled wrong. Lol.
this is where i turn to after hours of doing business related tasks and feeling exhausted.. then boom! i get energized instantly! thanks, Obscura

i dont hear death nor necro
i hear obscura
A lot of parts of the song are based on the Tech death necrophagist style, but there are a lot of distorted but melodic parts/choruses death style
That happens when four of the best musicians of our days play together
The accustic parts kind of reminds me of Opeth :D
Same here!
Well Hannes did used to listen to Opeth and own an Opeth t-shirt :^) ... That I think he later sold on eBay but I might be misremembering XD
