So glad you were able to review this! I've had this for a year or so - I love, love, love this dehydrator. I actually have dehydrated more because I store it on a laundry room shelf instead of in the garage. The NESCO is out of sight, out of mind. I bought silicone mesh off Amazon and cut to size. I bought a refurbished one off the Brod&Taylor site and saved a bit (keep checking the site for in stock refurbs). The warranty is just the same as new.
I went with the stainless steel version for $597.00 It's literally the Lamborghini of Dehydrators. Digitally-Controlled 750W dual heaters. Optimized air circulation is provided by a quiet, highly efficient radial fan that balances a mixture of fresh and recirculated air to enhance food drying and energy efficiency. Filtered air intake, automated dual time/temperature controls, stainless steel, and glass doors.
I know that I’ve commented about this dehydrator before…but I STILL LOVE this machine! I use it constantly for so many things! When I need space I can quickly fold it down and store it away! I’ve even made my yogurt in it. So easy. I’m excited that they may have mesh trays available in the future. I’m so happy that I purchased this dehydrator. The people at Brod & Taylor are very nice and helpful too! 😃
I love my Sahara Folding Dehydrator! I don't have the space for one that doesn't collapse, and am thrilled with how easily it is to set up, fold up, and put away. I purchased their folding dough proofer towards the beginning of the pandemic when I started baking sourdough, and was so impressed with it, I knew the dehydrator would be a winner! Their customer service is very responsive, and they told me that they will be coming out with mesh tray liners. Thanks for a great review!
@@ThePurposefulPantry Hope it’s available soon. They suggested I get on their mailing list to receive notification of new products. Thank you so much for your website, videos, and Facebook group! You are my go-to resource in learning about dehydrating!
I love the idea of a folding dehydrator. My Cosori came a couple days ago. 🥰🥰🥰 He is a handsome little beast, but chunky for sure. In fact, I don't really know where I'm going to store it!🤔🙄😄 Whenever my old Snackmaster tower unit dies, collapsible is the way to go.👍🏻
Thats pretty darn slick !! Thanks !! I love my x-calibre but it does take up a lot of space. I am so glad I found your Channel in order to learn so much about dehydrating
Looks amazing. I would love one that gets stored away. Could take it with me when I travel and want to take goodies home. Ugh I might have to ask for this for Christmas and my birthday 🤣
This dehydrator looks very interesting! I could take this with me in our RV when we travel south in the winter and use it for all the great produce available and bring home for year round enjoyment! Definitely on my wish list❣️
Saw this for the first time the other say on another channel but I instantly fell in love and trying to find out how I can get this machine. I love the folding/ collapsible storage feature alone... I love your channel by the way ...I been binge watching. You dehydrate everything and ...I love you expertise so much.much needed info during this time. Thanks for the review. I want thisssss! now!!! With alllll the accessories.
I’ve just ordered one of these, I’m so excited. I’ve watched almost all of your videos on dehydrating. We have lived without a freezer for 14 years, but throw a lot of our homegrown veg and fruit away each year. But now I will be able to keep it all. Thank you so much for all you work on creating the videos. Thanks again from the UK 🇬🇧
Great review. I am looking to get back into dehydrating and live on an rv. Definitely looking into this one! BTW just found you on UA-cam, love your channel!
Interesting concept. I would love to see a test run of how this machine dehydrates something and your opinions and comparisons to the other dehydrators that you've used.
If you clicked at the end, I did run through with mushrooms - and gave you info on the quietness of it. It works just the same as the Excalibur and Cosori I have.
Darcy, thank you so much for your videos and sharing your knowledge, you have opened up a whole new world to me. I have just purchased this beauty, and am absolutely loving it. As i have a small kitchen it is perfect, so decided to buy the carrier bag. Can you give me an indication as to how much the bag weighs, and if it can be folded? I am able to work out the dimensions by measuring the trays and dehydrator. As Brod & Taylor don't post overseas, I was going to use a third party to forward it onto New Zealand, but the price quoted is horrendous!~! heart attack material!!!!.
It is not a rigid bag, but it also won't fold easily, it is fairly heavy duty. I don't know the weight, and mine is packed away at the moment. You can call them on Monday and I'm sure they'll give you all the info.
Is this a good dehydrator for making jerky and drying meats? I read a review saying the Excalibur's were better for that? Love the compactability of this unit.
I just found your channel; I'm very happy about that! Recently you said that a friend of yours uses zucchini powder in place of flour in baking. Could you please give more info about that? And maybe some of her recipes? Thank you.
Have you tired doing apples in it yet? Mine came out leathery and not crisp, what did I do wrong, used this dehydrator for the first time on my apple project, any tips? I live in Mo., so right now it is humid. Thanks!! Looking forward to seeing more videos using this machine!!
Just got this! Looking forward to drying my herbs. How long did you have to run it the first time to complete the outgassing? I have been running it for a while and it is still outgassing.
Ok I've been watching and looking for an answer... I have made dehydrated tomatoes, for the first time. I have made tomato powder. So when I pack the powder do I need to put a moisture absorber in it?
The only problem was the air filter which they sent replacements for if you needed it. If there is anything else, I've never heard of it, and I've never had issues with mine. It's a great machine.
Hi, I looked at your review on this and decided to purchase it last night. I got the one with the plastic trays. If I decide to change to stainless steel I can purchase them later for $89. Since they don't make the silicone sheets for this model will the sheets from other companies work or are they too short? I decided to purchase this machine because I don't have counter space to keep one on when it's not in use. Thanks for your videos. I'm excited about getting started!
They do carry the stainless, they are just sold out right now. Their silicone sheets fit the machine and should have been free with your purchase. But you can use parchment or layer a couple of mesh sheets together to perform the same function (though their warranty only covers use of their own products).
My silicone sheets were not free. I had to pay $8.00 each and only brought five. Now they are out of stock. So I brought some mesh with the small squares and cut them down. Their silicone sheets that are still not long enough (about 3 inches short), so things still fall thru the tray. When they come back in stock I will buy about 3 extra ones and cut them down, then overlap them so they will fit the entire length. Do you know what I can use for fruit leather trays since they don't make any for the machine? Thank you for your help. P.S. - Thanks for all the wonderful videos. I've already dehydrated zucchini, squash, frozen mixed vegetables, spinach, mushrooms, and will do pineapple tomorrow.
This is the only dehydrator that has a fan-only option that I know of. The others can get as low as 95F/35C - and there is no one 'best' dehydrator. It depends on the volume you're doing, and the budget you have. I run down a lot of them here: www.thepurposefulpantry.com/tips-for-buying-a-dehydrator/
How did you get the silicone inserts? I purchased the Sahara and got the stainless steel trays but I want those silicone pieces because things like beans will just fall thru.
was looking for a frut roll up video wach all of your videos did not see any i wold love to use my rubarb because i have a lot and the same with blackberries
Hi Darcy! I am close to buying the Sahara and have been wondering which drying sheets to choose: they offer the silicone or teflon-coated (the latter in two thickness options). What would you recommend?
I've been using it on quite a few things (I just don't film everything I do), and really like it a lot. It's wide, so it does take up a little more counterspace, but the machine, itself, works just as well as my Cosori and Excalibur.
@@ThePurposefulPantry Thanks so much for letting me know. New subscriber here but I've been dehydrating for my canoe trips for the last few years. Lots to learn her on my end so thanks for the video's.
Better than Excalibur? Excalibur 3548CDB Electric Food Dehydrator Features Adjustable Thermostat and Digital 48-Hour Timer Faster and Efficient Drying, 5-Tray, Black
Timer doesn't matter. But better? No. More convenient for those with small spaces who can't store a large one on the counter? And it has an air dry only feature which is great for herbs. But Excalibur is no longer the best machine on the block. There are a lot of other great dehydrators that rival it now.

Sometimes it is the type of apple, but most likely you just needed to dry more. The machine doesn't affect it - but drying time does.

Hi Darcy! I am close to buying the Sahara and have been wondering which drying sheets to choose: they offer the silicone or teflon-coated (the latter in two thickness options).
What would you recommend?
I've only ever seen silicone mats that they offer. I have never seen a teflon coated mat from Brod & Taylor
@@ThePurposefulPantry that's actually very interesting. They offer teflon-coated mats in their EU store.
@@martynamaczyszyn Stick with Teflon coated. Easy to clean, food slide off nicely.
My concern is the air flow lost coming from between the doors. Do you find this is the case?
There is no airflow lost. There has to be some way for the air in the machine to escape with the moisture ;)
@@ThePurposefulPantry thank you! That is fantastic!

Yep - for what it does - it's going to have to cost more. It's in the same realm as an Excalibur and other high-end machines
The doors don’t seem to close tight
It does - air gaps are necessary
The stainless steel trays weigh more then the machine by itself.
Almost seems like it, huh? They don't, but they are good strong trays!
I’m so so Jealous!
