I think there are a couple things that would be sweet in this deck(pun intended) Gingerbrute - this can be a game changer to steal the initiave/monarch in games against other initiative/monarch decks. It can also be sacrificed for life or to draw cards with a dispute. Probably a sideboard card as a 2 of. Candry Trail - This gives you more consistent draws through scry. Another sac target that van even sac to itself for life and draw in a pinch. May be able to replace the ichor wellsprings. Allows for a turn 1 play and makes 1 land hands more keepable. Trespasser's Curse - Against longer grindy decks like gates, boros synth, jeskai ephemerate, this card can win you the game. Also adds black devoution. Great 2-3 of in sideboard. Great against the skyfisher omen decks as well.
I freaking love Gary. My first great result in a pauper tournament was mono black Devotion without Ouellette. I bought one with the winnings and a buddy picked up another for me.
If I can retort your question with another question: What matchups would you want them for? I remember old MBC using them to slow down Tron but that never really worked.
Out of curiosity - is there any point in teeny tiny splashing of white with ephemerate + including the oubliette's for increased devotion? As someone else already pointed in the comments it's not super efficient removal but still greatly contributes to devotion + I feel like not that many people run enchantment removal
You could look at defile Gardens style lists and see how their manabase handles the splash. The lack of creatures in the deck means it will be dead most of the time though. I'm still not sold on Oubliette as 3 matches this league I played against Dawnbringer Cleric so I just wouldn't be game enough.
I feel like Vampire Sovereign would be better than Gary here because the deck generates little devotion and most of it is tied to your sacrifice targets Sovereign has a better body, flying, and guarantees a drain 3
Nice run, but I suspect BG Gardens is just a better MBC at this point... you're forcing yourself to play Drought when Lembas exists and Initiative is such an efficient way to close games...
"Am I fine with defiling the cat?... Yeah..." Outside of the context of the game that would be a bold statement. 😂
The cat was asking for it with the way it was dressed.
Didn't even register this line when I was playing this back. Out of context quotes are great.

I love tithing blade so much. I was already high on it and after testing i am even higher on it.

I did not know Gary was pauper legal until today
I really think this deck needs oubliette for devotion, even if it's not a good removal
Agreed
Loved it!
What do you think of Choking Sands or Rancid Earth on sideboard?

I initially thought of Caw Gates. Do you think it would have any significant impact?

Thanks! I started doing them myself a couple of months ago. This is probably my favourite I've done so far.
GARY! He’s BACK?!
Guess whs back. Back again.
Gary is back!
Are you sure Gary is good in the deck? feels like it doesn't really deal that much damage and doesn't generate CA
I think more Witch's Cottage would be better that Basics

❤❤
Man, I know that's slow but this deck could really use some oubliette
lembas is so back breaking
Why not artefact lands for the sac spells.
Can only have so many utility lands until Defile becomes worse. May be able to fit in 2 or so. Not having Sac fodder only came up once I believe.
No snuff out?
We have enough removal spells and because red is a major player at the moment prefer the Spinning Darkness to gain life rather than having to pay 4.
Nice deck!
If only they banned dark ritual instead of black initiative i think this deck would be much better.

I concur, but you have to experiment to see if things are worth changing. While Gary is cool, gardens just feels stronger.
I respect that you gave this deck some elevation but this was painful to watch. It's like you never played MBC ever.
