Unlike other channels, you guys actually finish projects. Who in the hell cares if you sell them off when finished to make way for another nugget? Keep up the amazing work guys!
I'm one of the guys that went and bought one because of you and I love it. I went for the estate as I'm a labrador owner and I can fit more parts in it for other project cars. It's just a great daily driver that you can have a mad thrash in from time to time and piss off other sports car owners, or load up and just cruise around in. Gutted you've sold yours but interested to see what the new car is!! Cheers Moog, ya legend!!!
I had a GTI because of Moog and Jason Camisa. After the second time the engine blew up, I traded it in for an ILX. The weird thing is, I didn't even drive it hard, mostly just commuting, I'd send it on a freeway on ramp maybe once a month. Loved that car when it was working right, but if a car is going to repeatedly need major work, it needs to have more soul. Congratulations on the Lotus.
I totally understand. I sold my MX5 and got something newer and way faster and safer and better on paper in every way, except it's so normal even though it's modified. I'm now trying to sell it and buy another MX5. Once you find something that just fits for whatever reason it's hard to go with something "better". If you haven't found the one yet keep looking and you'll know it when you've got it.
And here we have a man who understands the soul of the MX5. This is the roadster philosophy, and when executed correctly it is exactly that: Doesn't look good on paper. Doesn't sound impressive. But the driving characteristics are measured in smiles per gallon. Tenfold more fun at legal speeds on a twisty forest road than a ten times more expensive car is at zero-to-lost-drivers-license in 1.6s....
Mate, I so get that. I have a very early NB, one of the first ones made in Evolution Orange. It’s slow and all, but the soul is there. It’s an experience. It’s the joy of driving a 70’s British roadster without the inconveniences. I’ll have to buy a second car because I use the MX5 everyday (160km per day) and I don’t want it to be a ruin. I just don’t know what to get now except for another MX5. They’re so great.
@@electricabyss3071 Get a fuel efficient, low maintenance car that has cheap spare parts. Something like a Toyota Corolla. That way you can still afford to take good care or your Miata. The NB's are becoming collector's items, so make sure you fix rust as early as possible. Hidden rust in the sills is what kills NBs. If you take good care of it you'll be able to sell it for the price of a 2019 ND (RF) 183hp Club Edition in ten years time. If you haven't driven the ND yet I seriously recommend you get a test drive at the nearest Mazda dealership.
"You'll know when youve got it" is so true, figured this out with my CE Lancer coupe, bought it couple years before marty got one and at the end of the 2k turbo challenge when Marty said he was keeping it I knew straight away he understood why they're (surprisingly) special. Only time I will get rid of mine is when I'm done building it and my little brother is old enough to get his P's (it's going to him so he can experience the magic) People can hate your car or say it's slow but if it makes you feel all the right feelings then you'd be foolish to let it go
@@andersjjensen I was thinking of getting a Mazda 2. I don’t need a big car anyways. The NB is a keeper though. It’s a forever car for me (my first car to be exact). It’s going to get modified a lot, rust will be repaired soon. Happily none is attacking the chassis, it’s just the rear quarter panel still. But thanks for your advice my friend ! Appreciate it.

Imagine them going crazy with a turbo ng 900, 9-3 or even 9000. Those cars are CHEAP right now. Idk if they have them in australia though. Also, hello fellow swede!
People are saying they saw an FB RX7 in a facebook post so it probably is, but it just doesn't really tick off too many spots on the checklist. It's not particularly rare and is definitely not particularly fast (unless it's engine swapped), it has rear seats, it has a boot/hatch, it will be comfortable (stock) and Moog said the viewers may think its strange, I dunno about you, but I'm pretty sure everyone understands rotaries are cool and will be on board for it. My guess is some sort or kit car or motorbike powered roadster (Caterham), if the checklist is anything to go by.
You do what Moog wants bro, don’t ever explain a good intent action. You guys are original and keep things suspenseful enough that I have watched your videos since you were doing your audio and basic mods videos almost 10 years ago. Congratulations on selling it, hopefully you got an Audi, maybe?

The Golf was rad, make no mistake, but the thing is... you could just get another one. That's why no one's bothered, and that's why it doesn't matter. The Mini and the Fairlady? You can't just get another one of those. You sell either of them, you'll likely never have either of them ever again. And that's what's wrong with the Golf. It's expendable. Sometimes that's an advantage, because you don't need to worry about it, it doesn't matter if it gets rear-ended - you just get it fixed. But the reason why it's 'boring' is because it's expendable.
"I sold my Golf R because it was boring me to tears even at 280km/h" "I sold my Golf R because there was 15,000km to next service and I felt like playing with my toy.. but there was nothing to do except wash-and-wax" "I sold my Golf R because ultra precise and efficient German engineering banishes the soul of a car" "I sold my Golf R because I felt disconnected from it...." Conclusion: A Golf R only makes sense to people who don't want two cars. It is overkill as a purely practical commuter/grocery-getter yet it doesn't deliver the sexy temperament that makes a car actually fun to drive... So yes, it is "too good".
@@andersjjensen pretty much, I bought one and I absolutely love the flexibility of the car to do everything well. Goes to and from work well, eats highway miles like a champ when I'm going skiing or visiting other places, good place to sit, and plenty of things like awd and heated seats. If I want to get stupid I take my motorcycle out, and when I need to do work I'll grab my truck. One car that does everything well, but if I had room I'd sell it, get a cheaper commuter and a few fun projects.
Crazy to see the throw back clip of the driveway build and see the boys looking young and chipper and realizing I've been watching this channel for a long time lmao
I like it when old lady's have good taste. The managed money well got they credit good and buy the best most optioned out car on the lot. There's a lady that drives a Audi A7 I believe and I seen her walking to it and I'm sure I'm positive she thought I was about to ask if she had a dollar to spare it was downtown and there's alot of that down there I was in a hoodie......but I seen the pleasantly surprised smile when I told her that I like her Audi A.......8? No it's an A7 actually but yeah its been a good car.. I said something like yeah Audi makes some gorgeous cars but I get the models mixed up.... have a good rest of your day. And that was that. I just really appreciated that car and I'm sure it made her day to know that some younger guy knew she wasn't just driving a whatever boring car.
I'm not sure if they are common or popular in Australia, but a Renault Clio 172/182 or Peugeot 306 GTi would be an interesting route to take - while they won't be as fast or practical as a Golf R, they offer a more old-school, 'direct' driving experience
@@Jordanskiy French cars are not all that popular here in AUS. 172/182's were indeed sold here in the full fat spec. I own one myself. 182 cup in orange. Presumably the only one in WA in this spec. I'd love to see MCM try out a French 'nugget' eventually. In fact they even mentioned it a few years ago in an episode of unicorn circuit.
As much as I liked Moog's Golf, out of the cars he owes Im glad it was this one that got sold. Also, wouldn't be an MCM video without a new-car-cliffhanger
That's what a Golf is: a commuter car, but for speedlimitless Germany. Unmodified Golfs, no matter "R" or not, are what accountants use to get to work over here. That's why Moog's positive-list looks like it does and why even a TDI Golf Kombi runs 200 easily.
@@manfredschmalbach9023 Pretty much. They're the "I want a more exciting car because it's so bland, but I can't get rid of my Golf because it's just Good and I'll miss it" kind of car. I had the MkIV 1.4 75hp (too slow), The 2.8 VR6 (too slow for the cost), the 25 edition GTI (great but crashed it) and now I got the Twincharged MkV GT Sport 3-door in black with chrome accents and the VW Charleston rims. Sometimes I contemplate buying a different car, but I always end up thinking "WHY". It has everything you (don't even) need interior wise. It looks good, nothing exciting, but not bad by any means. It's no rocket, but with the supercharger and no turbo lag it drives really great and feels very powerful for 170hp, does everything in 6th gear past 40kph. The Transmission, steering, suspension and especially the SEATS are really great. It does 240kph if you want it but you can drive it 750km's with 50 liters easily. And it drive's circles around 4x4 suv's in snow. I'd really like a 1 series like a 130i or maybe a C-class, but I can't get myself to buy another car just yet. Maybe It matches my boring Personality.
I totally get it. I'm a huge VW fanboi, and have been for 20 years. I have a MKV GTI daily, and I love it- it replaced a MKIV TDI Beetle (with a lot of mods!) that got totaled in an accident. But I am fixing the Beetle and will sell the GTI. The reason is that the GTI really lacks that "X-factor" that the Beetle has. The MKVI and VII GTI and Golf R are lacking that X-factor even more than the MKV's even though they are really, really good cars. I had a VR6 Corrado that was full of X-factor even though it wasn't a great car... and my MKI Scirocco is basically nothing but X-factor..... I'd love to be able to afford a Golf R, and I might have one someday but I don't think you need to explain any further than you did because most VW people would probably understand. It's sort of like what Clarkson said when he reviewed the Fiat 500 Abarth- it was "too good" and didn't have any of the zanyness of cars with the Abarth badge in the past and James said "So what you are saying is, it would be better, if it was worse?" And Clarkson said "Yes."
Wasnt even aware this was a common problem, until last friday when mine deceided the driveway needed a some decorating...literally only just ticketed over 18,000km

I recall a mention of a Caterham in a post in the last couple of months and it fits most of the criteria. Maybe something way out of left field - an Ariel Atom. Or an early series RX7 would not disappoint.
Not rare though. Kinda thinking delorean.
just bought myself a first gen rx7 and i can say it is a blast! not going to sell it haha. but i say that about my two first gen celica's as well. hope the misses doesn't find out i bought something yet again. at least i sold the motorcycle. that's something right? a caterham would be fun as hell! it would fit with that they are doing more trackdays lately. lets see what happens in a few days
Maybe an old TVR?
A Caterham with a trirotor!
Stuff like this is why people still love classics, over the modern.
I think a lot more channels need a moment like this to reach out to their viewers because it really does show that you care
I think of all the channels that could use a video like this, MCM wasn't it haha. I've never questioned it, not unlike so many other big youtube's
MCM: Why I sold my car
Also MCM: I bought 3 more...
It's MCM-channel, living off content. Three more is content. Keeping a car is not.
True passion speaks millions through the words of this video, the roots of love will never change! You ever watch someone drive by in the most clapped out 370 or whatever, they’re smiling because they love it. Through all the speed bumps and uneven roads, the break fix and repeat keeps us alive.
I almost had a heart attack thinking it was the fairlady.... man don't scare me like that
I felt exactly the same!
Haha, me too!
Or the Mini... I really won't miss the Golf...
Bruh me too
New car has to be like a Lotus or an Arial Atom, something along those lines.
It cant be an arial. Too reliable...lol
You can't register a Ariel atom in Aus unfortunately
Mad. This is going to be great, some great videos to come, saved the video for the morning. Had a quick sneak peak though :)
You were right!
INSIDER TRADING
Unlike other channels, you guys actually finish projects. Who in the hell cares if you sell them off when finished to make way for another nugget? Keep up the amazing work guys!
If it's a TVR, I'm going to laugh and laugh and laugh.
Then proceed to watch each episode with eager anticipation!
We never got very many of them in Oz. All private imports I think (don't @ me)
I sat in a Speed 12 as a kid at the Brisbane Motor Show (RIP). I was obsessed for a long time after.
He’s never talked about them?
It would be a bit of british absurdity that we are all unfortunately missing in our lives right now.
Hah I literally mentioned TVR in another comment. Seems like I'm not the only one who thought TVR when Moog gave that description eh?
Well...he had a moon buggy sooo how strange and rare can this next car actually be?🤷♂️
Whew! For a second there I thought Moog had sold the Fairlady Z.
Moog Sitting Down Alone and Serious

The serious face lasted a whole 18 seconds before he smiled :D haha
please be a RX7. Also I'm relieved you didnt sell the 240z. That's my dream car...
Holy shit I can't tell you how relieved I was to learn it wasn't the 240z lmao
I'm one of the guys that went and bought one because of you and I love it. I went for the estate as I'm a labrador owner and I can fit more parts in it for other project cars. It's just a great daily driver that you can have a mad thrash in from time to time and piss off other sports car owners, or load up and just cruise around in. Gutted you've sold yours but interested to see what the new car is!! Cheers Moog, ya legend!!!
Moog : "this is about as far from a golf you can get"
Me : "ENHANCE"
*golf
Sigh of relief.. you scared me dude, I thought you sold the Datsun, never get rid of that beast.
Only time I will get rid of mine is when I'm done building it and my little brother is old enough to get his P's (it's going to him so he can experience the magic)
People can hate your car or say it's slow but if it makes you feel all the right feelings then you'd be foolish to let it go
@@andersjjensen I was thinking of getting a Mazda 2.
Finally! An a9x TORANA! I'm so looking forward to it!
Actually any Torry!
He'd need to sell 3x Golf R's for one of those. (if it was a question of funds)

To be honest, it would be nice to see them work on some actual aussie built cars for once!

@@nebulae1992 also they arent THAT rare are they? Maybe they are in Australia.
It would absolutely tick the box for Unreliable though ;)
@@nebulae1992 not really
People are saying they saw an FB RX7 in a facebook post so it probably is, but it just doesn't really tick off too many spots on the checklist. It's not particularly rare and is definitely not particularly fast (unless it's engine swapped), it has rear seats, it has a boot/hatch, it will be comfortable (stock) and Moog said the viewers may think its strange, I dunno about you, but I'm pretty sure everyone understands rotaries are cool and will be on board for it.
My guess is some sort or kit car or motorbike powered roadster (Caterham), if the checklist is anything to go by.
he said it doesn't have a boot.....
Maybe a Porsche?
You inspired me to start working on my GTI with the Golf R series! Keep up the good work and I always look forward to the next MCM vid!
So Moog bought WASAABI back and did a rear wheel drive conversion? Cool.
Boot space a plenty in in ol'900 though!

"I sold my Golf R because it was too good" :D
"It's not you, it's me.."
"I sold my Golf R because it was boring me to tears even at 280km/h"
"I sold my Golf R because there was 15,000km to next service and I felt like playing with my toy.. but there was nothing to do except wash-and-wax"
"I sold my Golf R because ultra precise and efficient German engineering banishes the soul of a car"
"I sold my Golf R because I felt disconnected from it...."
Conclusion: A Golf R only makes sense to people who don't want two cars.

Whilst I love the JDM stuff, I would realy enjoy an other Euro project.
I'm not sure if they are common or popular in Australia, but a Renault Clio 172/182 or Peugeot 306 GTi would be an interesting route to take - while they won't be as fast or practical as a Golf R, they offer a more old-school, 'direct' driving experience

@@Khalid-gw4gw down a mine shaft?????

@@p.informatico1320 oh.. you're right. Sorry

I wish man could you imagine? I would be so jealous
Yes, but it would be the opposite, right?
Now you can save all that money from water pump replacements and spend it on more 2000 dollarydoo nuggets.
