    Yep it's good to go in Ohio. And glad people are still loading the Max. I loved it so much that's the reason I started reloading over 25 years ago. Love my Contender

    I would have bought the Ruger with short barrel if I could have found one when I wanted it. I chose the Axis Compact to get the short barrel. It is handier in the blind. I'm not shooting far enough to need more velocity.

    I have a 350 legend upper on the way and have no use for it other than to have fun slapping steel. Seems like a great cartridge for casters, it shares components with my other rifle and pistol loads so I didn't need anything but dies and some brass.

    I bought a 300 black out last year and it just wasn't as powerful as i hoped. I picked up a 350 legend this year and I'm glad I did, it has alot more powerful especially the 180 grain loads

    I bought a set of Lee reloading dies for the 350 Legend, and they provided with the dies, reloading data for the 125 Gr. Barnes, the 147 Gr. XTP, and the 180 Gr. Win. soft point. Very helpful indeed. Lil Gun, H110, and WW 296 powders seemed to be the best.

      Bullets for this caliber are being created even as we speak. There are several really good ones out there. I just saw a great video of a prototype made by Lehigh defense in 150 grain controlled expander. Barnes makes good Bullets as well as Winchester and Hornady.

    I am a newbe that reloads 9mm who recently got a Savage 350 Legend with the idea that with a bit of modification I could reload the Hornady American Whitetail brass with my minimal set up. So far the problems are that primers used for 9mm are too large by a couple of thousands (Remington no. 5-1/2). I am also not sure of the amount of powder, thinking around 26 gr with 90 gr bullets.

    Nice. I just stumbled across your video, and I’m building an AR with a modified 350 Legend barrel. Eagle did mine. So, I’m about to start loading for it, but I’ll be using 358 bullets. Thanks for sharing! I subbed to your channel.

      thank you very much, I have loaded some Hornady 140 grain FTX bullets into this caliber. They do chamber a little stiffer but they still shoot really well. Same bullet that I use in my 357 max.

  • @jdouglas2109
    @jdouglas2109 5 років тому

    Ruger has rifles with 20 and 22" barrels for the 350 Legend, I bought the 20" version and have loaded resized 140g FTX (.357 to .356) and 147g XTP and 147g Winchester .355 bullets. All are accurate and the FTX bullets have penetrated 2 1 gallon water filled jugs so I think that would work for deer until we get more bullet options.

    • @57dewey
      @57dewey  5 років тому

      I did not mention it in the video but I load the 140 FTX in this round also. The only negative is I get a bit of a case bulge but it does not affect cycling the board at all. It will shoot around an inch also. I also love this round in my 357 max and it is a deer killer. I would love to see someone come out with the same bullet in 150 or 155 but I can live with the 140. I am only guessing you really wouldn’t need to resize your bullets if you didn’t want to. I shoot the 158 Xbox also but it does not shoot as go to groups as the ftx

    I just spoke to Ohio department of natural resources 9:30a 4-15-21
    THE 350Legend IS OHIO LEGAL. they use SAAMI specs and .355-.358 is the legal dimension for .357 tolerance
    I suggested they make that clear on the website and the regulations syllabus. He agreed. He also said that he had recently spoken directly to the inventor (who sold the design to Winchester). The inventor was pleasantly surprised that Ohio had adopted it. It’s a great deer round. My two last year hit the ground dead.

  • @blaws6684
    @blaws6684 3 роки тому

    165 ftx over 25gr of lil gun. Shoots 1 jagged hole at 150- twice as far as most deer are taken countrywide. The two deer I took last fall both died before they hit the dirt.
    Yes- Ohio legal.

  • @garrychildress1373

    With that 147 grain HST, or a Gold Dot or an XTP pushed at rifle velocity which is 1000 fps over handgun. I wouldn't shoot a deer with it either but I wonder how it would work as a tactical/police round.

    Would be nice to have loading data for 158 grain 357cal bullets; I have a lot of them. I read that you can load .357 cal bullets but you should reduce powder weight bellow maximum or resize them to .356. I will try also few 180 gr JHP. How I would go around with 158 gr 357 bullets would be to use 180 gr data and go from there if needed

    Thanks for the info. .350l seems like a lot of hype, but i think it has a place. I bought an upper ftom bca, hopefully it shoots half as good as your group. 9mm on roids sounds like a hot ticket!

    • @57dewey
      @57dewey  5 років тому +1

      It is a Lotta hype if you can hunt with any rifle you want but it makes perfect sense here in southern Michigan. I have been hunting for three years with a 357 maximum single shot and it is devastating on deer. My longest shot was 180 yards. You can find this on my seven minute video of Steve and I are hunting in a beanfield. Technically I didn’t shoot it, Steve did.

      I also have the 350 upper from BCA. I've had some feed issues with it using Win, Federal, and Hornady ammo. My 10yr old son took his 1st buck with it last week during the youth season. The recoil is light so it does have its place.

    Which die set do you need to reload 350L? Would 38sp, 357mag, 357 max do it or is there a 350L die set? Thanks.

    There is a 358 Legend. I am thinking of getting a barrel made. A true 357" grove diameter not a .355", and a faster twist.
    Please look at the SAAMI drawing. The lead in is only .10' long at .357" then goes to .355". That's not very much. Look at the 357 MAXIMUM lead in/free bore in comparison.
    The 358 Legend has a faster twist which it should have been from the get go. 1:12 would have been nice like most 35 cal rifles. 2 places offer the 358 Legend 1:11 & 1:14 twists depending on who makes it.
    I shoot suppressed mostly and prefer heavy bullets. In my 357 MAXIMUM TC I shoot a 300 gr bullet. Fantastic load. 1050 fps = 734 ft/lbs. I shoot it in a custom 16" 1:12 twist barrel. 250's in the OEM barrels. The slow twist in my Rugers seems to handle 250's at over 1K but test w/o your can on first to make sure it's at least 850 fps, or you may get tail wag n clip a baffle.
    I have an AR pistol gas system with a 9" barrel, a Ruger. 21 gr H335 under a Speer 250 gr Hot Core is the best subsonic load so far, and I've tried a bunch. It cycles and holds the bolt back on the last shot.
    In my Ruger American I shoot mostly 147 gr 9mm Nosler HP bullets. It's my supersonic gun. I can buy them in bulk and are cheaper than the 145 gr Winchester bullets. I agree if you don't shoot suppressed a 22"-24" would be nice and would be good for 180's & 200 gr Hornady flex tip. (Again size to .356")
    If you can find them the Hornady 180 gr Single Shot Pistol bullet are the way to go. They were made for the 357 MAXIMUM and mushroom at the slower 350 Legend velocity. They no longer make them. IIRC
    I size all my .357"-8" bullets to .356" so they chamber in my gas gun. In the bolt you can be a bit more relaxed about the Ogive being to far out or the bullet being a bit to fat.
    I've been waiting for this caliber just to bad it's .355", and 1:16. It should have been. 357" and 1:12 twist. No clue why other than to make money on new bullets. Hence my desire to upgrade to the 358 Legend.

    • @57dewey
      @57dewey  4 роки тому

      Nice idea but right now, the industry is making tons of bullet variations in .355. I wish they would do the same for .357. Next year I am going to only use a Barnes 180 grain bullet so I can get more through penetration.
