I reckon I'd get teary with patriotic pride, especially if greeted by such a beautiful monument to our engineering/manufacturing/racing history. I'm a Ford guy but I'm super-proud of all the great vehicles we designed & manufactured here in our little sun-bleached neck of the woods. I'd prefer to see a set of Harrop brakes under it, but it's awesome!

As an Australian, I must say though Australian cars were pretty rubbish. The world doesn’t really miss them! This is a good example of what a torana is like with proper engineering (and a lot of money...) applied. Not much Holden left on this thing!
Not sure if I should tell you this but I edited out the bit where they pass him back. That WAS after he had oiling issues though, so it doesn't count. Can't wait till he gets it sorted though, it should be quite competitive.

I can only like this video once. Unfortunately. Congratulations on turning this Aussie classic into the beast that it is. It was a massive head turner back in its day and, even today in a strange land, it looks like it still gets it’s fair share of attention. I feel a mixture of pride and envy watching this as you are living a dream I never realised, the A9X was always my dream car as a kid but I would’ve taken an L34 any day. Awesome build. I'm Australian and have been a big fan of Toranas my whole life. I had an LC Torana with a racing 6 cylinder for my first car. Always wanted one of these. Unfortunately due to their rarity they are too expensive now days. If i was to build one it would be exactly like yours. Great stuff and keep up the good work.

Yeah it is gorgeous. When I first started researching to find out what had happened to it I had no idea Uwe had done such a great job. All I knew was there was a guy who took a Torana to Germany. Turns out he is a really nice guy and knows how to build a race car, unfortunately still having issues with his oil system.

Awesomme stuff. Good on you. I'm now 62 years old and was in my teens when these were released in Aus. My current VE Commodore and engine changes and mods are running around 600hp but is nowhere as "Iconic" as the A9X or SLR 5000. You have made some great upgrades and fitments - well done. Thanks for posting as it brings back fond memories for me

Classic cars have a character and style to them that modern cars have homogenised out. I'm no Torana fan but I love that people do cool shit like this and give new life to classics regardless of what they are. Thanks for making this available to watch, thanks uwe for doing the hard yards.

Yeah Uwe has done a great job. Its taken him about 10 years but he's almost at the point where he can start to race it. Now he just needs some sponsorship and some races to be held.

Yeah Abbott and Hockey decided we didn't need an automotive manufacturing industry anymore. At least now the cars coming in should be cheaper because we don't need the tariffs anymore. Right? What's that? You want to still charge us tariffs to protect an industry that doesn't exist so it doesn't affect resale value of cars we already payed tariffs on that we shouldn't have? Yeah, sounds fair.....

Uwe put a pic up on Facebook the other day from a year ago where he is in the engine bay and says he is back there again. Rebuilding the motor again but he is trying to decide which way to go.

@@BorkenGarage on second watch it really seems to react like a sailors candle, those cabin shots really lean with the g-forces, let us know about the in cabin camera setup!
You'll notice he isn't going flat out through the corners, that is due to some oil surge issues and low oil pressure through the twisty bits. He has done a lot of work to try to resolve it but the engine is still in pieces. He is aiming for next summer to get it on the track.
Great video, I love seeing the Torrie at the ring. There’s a lot of really nice engineering and thought that’s gone into the car. You’re living the dream mate! It must have been a lot of work convincing the human robots at the TÜV to allow the car on the road.
MCM fan by any chance? Chop chop? Not sure if he had to worry about TUV or not because race car. But he's used a lot of new parts on the car so that would help.
@@markmcgrath9098 Not sure, he hasn't mentioned it. The driving I've seen on the road is mostly between the workshop and the track, and I have no ideas are what the rules are about that. Only asked about MCM because they fixed a car up in Germany and everything had to be TUV certified, it was a bit of a running joke for a while.

Amazing build guys, as a torana owner I’m glad to see the modifications you have done not many of us would go in that direction. But I’m happy to see you having fun over there with a tori. Can’t believe you cruised pass the Porsche’s Ewe which are actually my favourite sports cars - I got my driver’s licence in Melbourne Australia 1975 driving a GPac 6 cylinder sports pack L34 Torana which was a handful for the eighteen week driving schedule through the Saturday morning urban traffic but I got 85 percent pass for my licence - only lost a few points because I was so excited about getting my licence in one of these beasts I forget to left turn indicate on the last corner - great to see your project working - fantastic 05 Green tribute too - enjoy - John in SA

Yeah Uwe hasn't been able to drive it in anger yet, has had oil delivery issues among other things. He is currently trying to get some sponsorship and generate some income so he can do some events.
Yes as you probably all ready know there are many different things you can do to help the 308 oiling issues. Personally I added a sump breather to reduce pressure, swapped the oil pump for a Mopar high pressure/standard volume set up & added a 3 litre accumulator. All of this I did myself reasonably cheaply, the ultimate is a Dick Savy dry sump set up.
@@BorkenGarage Simple, dry sump it. Then you stop farting around and simply drive the car. Wet sump is for the towcar!! Forums are for road cars and drag racing. Road race cars are entirely different
At Bathurst 73, 74, 75 & 76 the SLR5000 for three of those years is tattooed on my memory, so good to see one is in Europe at another legendary circuit. Spa and Monza next? Excellent work ✅
Yeah good times for the Torana in those years, only thing that stopped them was a dodgy fuel gauge and some oiling issues, things that any Torana owner will agree were also apparent in the road cars. Uwe is rebuilding the engine now to try to fix some of the oiling issues. Hard part is finding parts half way around the world during a pandemic. But he'll get there, he's come this far.
Yeah I wonder if he know about it? I know that Joe Felice is aware of it and pretty sure that he and Uwe have met. Its great to see these guys that were around back in the day still taking an interest.
Wonderful ...Even though I am a Ford nut and love the XR to XC Falcons something crazy as well as the modern ones , I also have a very big soft spot for lots of Toranas ..The best older Holdens for sure and I love the HQ Kingswood too .. Uwe is amazing and this channel is brilliant ... My dream car would be an XB or XC GT Hardtop . Only two things stopping me ..Money and talent .. Thanks so much ...

Classic cars have a character and style to them that modern cars have homogenised out. I'm no Torana fan but I love that people do cool shit like this and give new life to classics regardless of what they are. Thanks for making this available to watch, thanks uwe for doing the hard yards.

Yeah Uwe has done a great job. Its taken him about 10 years but he's almost at the point where he can start to race it. Now he just needs some sponsorship and some races to be held.

Yeah Abbott and Hockey decided we didn't need an automotive manufacturing industry anymore. At least now the cars coming in should be cheaper because we don't need the tariffs anymore. Right? As a bike rider I loved the on board g-force oriented camera! It perfectly shows acceleration, braking and turning as a rider feels it 🐨
Yeah I think it is a 360 degree go pro that Uwe used for that one, hence the different angles etc.

You'll notice he isn't going flat out through the corners, that is due to some oil surge issues and low oil pressure through the twisty bits. He has done a lot of work to try to resolve it but the engine is still in pieces. He is aiming for next summer to get it on the track.

Great video, I love seeing the Torrie at the ring. There’s a lot of really nice engineering and thought that’s gone into the car. You’re living the dream mate! It must have been a lot of work convincing the human robots at the TÜV to allow the car on the road.
MCM fan by any chance? Chop chop? Not sure if he had to worry about TUV or not because race car. But he's used a lot of new parts on the car so that would help.
Potta's World nah, not really an mcm fan. I thought he must have done some roadworthy work as it’s been driven to the track on open roads.
@@markmcgrath9098 Not sure, he hasn't mentioned it. The driving I've seen on the road is mostly between the workshop and the track, and I have no ideas are what the rules are about that. Only asked about MCM because they fixed a car up in Germany and everything had to be TUV certified, it was a bit of a running joke for a while.

Yes Uwe and his friends have done a great job on this car, especially when you think how hard it is to find parts for an old Holden in Germany.

Can’t believe you cruised pass the Porsche’s Ewe which are actually my favourite sports cars - I got my driver’s licence in Melbourne Australia 1975 driving a GPac 6 cylinder sports pack L34 Torana which was a handful for the eighteen week driving schedule through the Saturday morning urban traffic but I got 85 percent pass for my licence - only lost a few points because I was so excited about getting my licence in one of these beasts I forget to left turn indicate on the last corner - great to see your project working - fantastic 05 Green tribute too - enjoy - John in SA

Awesome car, awesome track & awesome story. It has been a dream of mine to take my Torana to the Nurburgring. Although on my shoestring racing budget a large lotto win is required lol.
Yeah Uwe hasn't been able to drive it in anger yet, has had oil delivery issues among other things. He is currently trying to get some sponsorship and generate some income so he can do some events.
Yes as you probably all ready know there are many different things you can do to help the 308 oiling issues. Personally I added a sump breather to reduce pressure, swapped the oil pump for a Mopar high pressure/standard volume set up & added a 3 litre accumulator. All of this I did myself reasonably cheaply, the ultimate is a Dick Savy dry sump set up.
I'm not sure what he's doing but he's got a few tips from the guys on the GMH-Torana forum. @Ringholden - some good tips here Uwe.
@@BorkenGarage Simple, dry sump it. Then you stop farting around and simply drive the car. Wet sump is for the towcar!!
Forums are for road cars and drag racing. Road race cars are entirely different

At Bathurst 73, 74, 75 & 76 the SLR5000 for three of those years is tattooed on my memory, so good to see one is in Europe at another legendary circuit. Spa and Monza next? Excellent work ✅
Yeah good times for the Torana in those years, only thing that stopped them was a dodgy fuel gauge and some oiling issues, things that any Torana owner will agree were also apparent in the road cars. Uwe is rebuilding the engine now to try to fix some of the oiling issues. Hard part is finding parts half way around the world during a pandemic. But he'll get there, he's come this far.

Wonderful ...Even though I am a Ford nut and love the XR to XC Falcons something crazy as well as the modern ones , I also have a very big soft spot for lots of Toranas ..The best older Holdens for sure and I love the HQ Kingswood too .. Uwe is amazing and this channel is brilliant ... My dream car would be an XB or XC GT Hardtop . Only two things stopping me ..Money and talent .. Thanks so much ...

I had an LC Torana, occasionally raced at Ravenswood drags in WA back in the day.
Yeah they were pretty popular at the drags, still a few racing I think.
