Considering Sachiko's older voice, I like to imagine the song coming from the perspective of an older woman. Once a young beautiful woman, now not receiving as many admirers as before as the effects of time age her features. The lyrics start sounding as if she's in denial of what's happening and desperately trying to live as if she's still youthful, until she either dies by the measures she'd go to remain beautiful or just dying of old age.
I personally only think she sounds, good at the "everybody told that girl" part, as she sounds really goofy everywhere else. Sorry to say. She also just cuts out at the "Dare yori Dare yori Dare yori sa" as well as at the very end though I get why he did it at the end was probably for effect but that doesn't excuse the aforementioned. Miku sounds like the person going through this, and that makes sense since most of it is in 1st person. Miku sounds like she is actively screaming for help while Sachiko in this just.... sounds like voice that's changing pitch and saying lyrics. Like she's... singing but I can't feel the pain in her voice. I think it would make more sense to have Sachiko sing the end only which leads into a duet.
@@naurimgoodtbh time to make lore out of this A hell lot of years before the present, a very beautiful girl named Miku (any names for the girls in the Diseased Princess triology are appreciated) lived in a village where girls, presumably uglier than Miku, and men resided. Girls 'gossiped' about the fellow lady, whilst boys developed feelings for her because of her beauty. She would tease and ridicule the men who confessed their love to her and make fun of the ugly girls who made up rumours about her, oftenly calling them cut-up fish innards who were 'jealous' of her pretty face, all covered up in makeup. Everybody would tell Miku that she's corrupted and her feminine pride about her beauty is messed up, however she'd ignore them and continue to use make up to be pretty. She has intended on being beautiful forever, however, aging day-by-day, she never matured. Her looks may have changed, but her thoughts never did. As she grew up, on the third day of the gossiping, she has had enough of all the people who disapproved of her pride, whom she presumably couldn't trust. She plucked out her shining blue hair and cut her face off her head. She'd go outside and show her 'accomplishments' to everybody in the village, who was visibly shocked. However, that would unknowingly lead to Miku's demise. A few years later, another beautiful girl was born in the village, her name was Sachiko and had looks similar to her possible ancestor, Miku, but she was purple haired instead. As time passes, Sachiko started to have the exact same habits as the other girl, and so, rumours and feelings have started to occur again. She'd tease the men who'd tell her about their love towards her and ridicule the girls who gossiped about her. People would also tell her that her ways were not alright, but she just wouldn't listen. As the madness rised, she would grow deppressed that her face was changing everyday, similar to Miku. So, she also took her hair out and cut her face. It started being a tradition. In the Edo-Period era, another girl was born in the exact same village, however, she was named Gumi. As beautiful as both Miku and Sachiko, however, her hair was green. The public loved her, but most girls did not. Tension in between Gumi and the others would be higher, as rumours were worse. She'd escalate into a madness, just like her other ancestors, however, she knew that what she was going to do was horribly wrong. She'd pull hair out of her head and cut her face intentionally to make the public remember her, as this was the last day she'd ever be pretty on this planet. Then, she'd drop dead, just as intended. Do my fingers hurt? No, they don't.
Sachiko is designed for this style of singing - it's a traditional Japanese style called "ondo", it's not "insane" lmaooooo I wish Masa would use Sachiko more considering she's made for the kind of music he composes, but ultimately it comes to whatever pays the bills, and I think he does a great job manipulating Miku and Gumi to his needs.
@@scarychewinggum ah, thanks for letting me know! I didn't have a right word for it a long time ago because I didn't know what that style of singing is :3 Thanks for the info!
To be honest, the lyrics make me feel really bad for the character this song is from the perspective of. I think she just wanted to be loved and accepted, and her beauty was the only thing she was praised for. Then, when she tried to focus on it and make herself look perfect and more beautiful than anyone else since she thought that was the only thing people liked about her, she was told she was shallow, easy, and messed up. I think the decline in praise she was getting for her beauty led her to start seeking gratification and validation in any way she could, as shown by when she brings up whatever “guys” she references throughout the song. I think she eventually saw herself as worthless and ugly, as again; she was no longer being praised for her beauty, the thing she thought was her only good trait. This likely led her to believe that her looks were deteriorating somehow. To think that she would never be worth anything again, as she couldn’t seem to find a way to “make her beauty last forever”, so she would eventually become obsolete. Worthless. Forgotten. It seems that what she convinced herself to believe led herself to go harm herself, cutting up her face and pulling out her hair, showing it to all of the people who scorned her; likely symbolic of the way it felt to try and make herself as beautiful as possible. “Beauty is pain”, they do say. Since she thought she was ugly and therefore no longer worthwhile, the last line referencing her death leads me to believe that she killed herself. This song really showcases the dangers of only praising people for one thing; they’ll start to think that’s the only worthwhile trait about them and focus hard on it. Then they’ll start to feel as if they aren’t good enough, because they aren’t being praised for it anymore so they must not be trying hard enough. This makes me feel a certain amount of connection with this character, as I have felt a similar way throughout my life (not over the same thing and not to as large of an extent of course, but the feeling is still there). Great song, and while the meaning may be fairly obvious, I saw many comments simply saying she sounded “crazy”, so I wasn’t sure if anyone else read the lyrics the way I did.
My friend and I are complete opposites when it comes to vocaloid. She really likes high voices and I really like low voices. I found my new favorite vocaloid.

ive honestly been so intrigued by sachikos vb since hearing this the first time. i feel like shes got some great depth pronounciation-wise as to be expected of an enka based vocaloid and im so in love with it. what a good song!
I know the general consensus is that this is about a girl who was so self absorbed and obsessed with beauty that it drove her insane to the point of mutilation. I can interpret it as a girl suffering from body dysmorphic disorder, trying to combat it in not the best way, and then also having others' words get to her- all driving her to that point. I also think Sachiko fits this song much better than Miku, and that MASA did a beautiful job tuning her. I hope he uses her again some day.

Not gonna lie i love this song but I find it extremely sad tbh, she was appreciated by her looks only and it drew her insane because she thought that only what matters in her, so she keep trying to get prettier and hate the fact her body is changing, and she goes insane and self-h*rm (cvtting her own face and ripping her hair out) and she thought that she was now pretty, and later she ends up dying (either because of her injuries or her taking her own life).

A woman wonders around Japanese streets after dark with a mask on if she finds you she will ask you a question,
*am i beautiful?*
If you answer yes she will reveal her mouth cut open Jeff the killer style and ask,
*am I beautiful now?*
If you answer yes to this she will get a pair of scissors and cut your mouth the same way.
If you answer no (to her first question) she will cut your face.
The only way to escape her is to answer maybe and run away as she will be confused.
