  • This hope filled documentary highlights the personal struggles of military personnel and their families with the realities of trauma recovery.
Nearly everyone will experience some form of trauma. Accidents, mental or physical abuse, violence, injury, illness, or the death of a loved one can cause post-traumatic stress (PTS). If the PTS is serious and not resolved, it can become post-traumatic stress disorder (PTS(d) and its victims may suffer devastating effects.
PTS(d) does not discriminate. It can take down the strong and the weak, change behavior, cause addictions, destroy marriages and families, and even take the lives of its victims. As many as 22 veterans per day take their own lives due to PTS(d).
In Triggered, renowned trauma expert Victor Marx, himself a victim of PTS(d), takes the viewer on a journey to understand PTS(d), its symptoms and treatments, and to find hope for recovery. Unscripted, raw and authentic interviews with PTS(d) victims and insightful interviews with experts in the field, reveal how victims can free themselves from its life-crippling effects, and offers encouragement and hope for not only those who suffer from PTS(d) but also for those who love them.

I’m speechless. My family was presented yesterday evening with a young man 27, who’s dealing with PTSD. My husband, son and I took this individual in last night. This young man is my Compadre son who was in the military. He’s suicidal, paranoid and wreck-less. His parents have tried countless times to institutionalize him. They’ve called the authorities on him, thus given up on their only son. We new he was different from when he was released from service coming home. Distance, unsociable etc. His parents were shocked he showed at our home. He expressed, he was homeless trying not to incarcerated. Wrapping our arms around him but uncertain of how to handle. Offering him our support and a warm bed. To watching him on our home internal cameras we can clearly see this soul is lost. After little sleep, he left 3am. I want him to sit with us and watch this tutorial. I can relate due to my own trauma/triggers and I’m not a Veteran. I pray he comes back this evening/weekend. He chose my family for help. Thank you for this feed♥️.

As this is an old post, did he come back to you?
It's really difficult if somebody is suicidal. They're somebody else who you can't reach if they don't want you to reach them.
      I hope he's okay. ❤

One of the great tragedies of the U.S. military system, especially in the Army and Marine Corps, is the lack of a British-style regimental system. I'm not talking about the tribal externals, such as distinctive uniforms, badges etc, but the fact that the regiment is as unchanging as it can be in a world of constant change. I remember seeing three members of a British regiment, all of whom were separated from each other by decades of service, talking about a soldier they all knew. One knew this soldier when he was a private, the second when he was a platoon sergeant and the last when he was the equivalent of a First Sergeant. When you join your battalion, you join it for life and the sense of brotherhood is intense, even after you've left the service. If you return to visit the battalion you served in, the chances are very good that you'll know someone and the annual gatherings for regimental day celebrations and observances are replete with old soldiers talking with old comrades and remembering the good times and the bad times.

Sending so much love to all our military, retired and serving who are dealing with ptsd and c-ptsd. I have this not from being in the military, for different, but brutal reasons, and often thought of speaking to more service men and women.. cos not many others understand my constant readiness, the flash backs and nightmares. The moods. The anxiety. Why I am not the same person anymore. I have gotten better with time.. like 8 years, but I'm not the same.

According to Pete Walker, author of two excellent books entitled Complex Post Traumatic Stress, From Surviving to Thriving & The Tao of Fully Feeling there are 4 reactions & I have experienced all four of them myself. So in addition to fight/flight there is freeze & fawn. We are also to feel genuine sorrow for our little child inside & experience that sorrow for each situation we can recall for continued healing. Of course, the Lord wants our healing & hears our cries & prayers moving us forward, but He really is the only ONE who fully understands this web of post traumatic stress & all the effects & losses which are very many!

Victor, thank you for your work. This has shed light on some triggers that were implanted during my childhood, and still deal with today, some 47 years later. God bless your ministry! Keith Valenzuela - Flood Digital Networks, NE

I'm being treated for PTSD right now. Military and childhood trauma. I waited a long time before I was able to open up to my psychiatrist about the nightmares, the inner shame I had from my childhood, startle response, etc. PTSD sometimes gets mis-diagnosed as major depression. It wasn't until I told my doc everything that the mental burden that I carried for years is now slowly being lifted.I don't know if it will ever go away completely but now I have some better coping skills. Thank you for this film.

Not a vet . But I know I have PTSD and I think my oldest son might as well who will be 16 next month . I had a really rough childhood and never delbt with anything really . I was on my own by 15 so I had to just survive and not worry about it so I pushed it back . I'm definitely one who bottles things . But now seeing signs in my son I do not want him to suffer or me make it worse by not dealing with my own issues . But I have no idea where to go who to talk to where to find the time . I have 3 kids I'm raising alone . Work full time .and no family to help out . It litterly is overwhelming even thinking about getting help lol . I appreciate all you service men and respect you so much I can't imagine the trauma you have been through and things you have seen . But God bless you for real.

I'm not ex military, but I had a stressful childhood to say the least, and I eventually ended up addicted to heroin.
I didn't know why I was drawn to that particular drug, I didn't think it mattered.
Then I did lots and lots of therapy on myself, and I got clean in 2009, and a month later, my best friend of 30 years died of alcohol and drugs.
It threw me into the deepest depression. And that anxiety was a killer! I literally slept no longer than 3 hours a night, before as soon as I woke up, my friend would enter my mind, and my stomach would turn in knots, and my heart would pound.
So I'd go to be at 4am, and I'd be up by 6am everyday.
This went on for 4 years, and *luckily* I ended up in prison, which saved my life.
I have no doubt in the world that I would be dead had I not ended up in prison.
However, I have ongoing issues now. Including anxiety, depression, and also some serious stomach issues linked to anxiety and stress.
I can't imagine how you military guys deal with it. Respect.

I suffer ptsd from childhood trauma. But I didnt recognise it in myself until I saw it in my son. I find it very hard to navigate it myself. But I react where I go into myself. I hide and isolate when Im triggered. God Bless you for what you do to help others even with your own pain.

Unfortunately society's way to "deal" with ptsd is to lock them up or shoot them. The police have zero training on this and they are trigger happy

Adam B you may be able to support or talk to them, but they personally need to get the help. You can assist them towards it, but it's him or her that has to want to be helped... good luck

Whatever you do DO NOT LET YOUR PSYCHIATRIST DO TMS TO YOU. It’s torture which causes more PTSD. TMS is transmagnetic cranial stimulation and caused me to have permanent tinnitus going on 3 years now.
