I just want to thank you so much for this… Because of you I found the band building that my great grandfather took a picture in front of in 1939. He was stationed there in the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. I am going to go there in the next few weeks so I can sit on the same spot he is in the picture.
Awesome1 My family lives a few miles away from the old fort. When I visit I often wander around the place and especially enjoy the State Park trails as well that are nearby.
I was there for AIT to study Finance, 5 Aug - 22 Sep 1981. I loved Ft Harrison (we called it Ft Ben). Apparently, they tore down the HQ building that I think was the hospital. Anyway, my buddy and I used to walk around "the loop" in the evenings. They used to have three tanks on the parade field. Such a beautiful post! I also had my NCO school there, Jun 27 - Sep 9, 1991. Everything after 13:08 looked about the same. I also noticed the Defense Finance Accounting Services building, which you didn't mention. I live in Florida, but I'll have to make a trip up there some day. 😀
It really is a beauty place to wander around. My family lives just a mile or so away from Ft. Ben and when I visit I often explore parts of the old Fort as well as hike and ride my bike at the State Park that is right next door.
