  • In between visiting with Brennan's family in Virginia, we were able to visit a few areas of historical interest, one of the most notable for us being George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate in Virginia. I had been before years perviously, and Brennan had somehow never been, so it was an experience we both wanted to make sure we did! We were able to tour the mansion (which didn't allow photos or videos) and then freely roam the grounds, checking out the current (and old) tomb, the barns, the wharf, the farm plantations, the slave and worker quarters, and the beautiful forest that surrounds the estate. It was an incredible experience that I filmed quite a lot of an edited down as much as possible. This was the day before we drove back to Orlando, so it'll be the final Virginia installment, but it was definitely worth the trip and we'd love to go back to get an even further and more in-depth look at artifacts and museum exhibits! Thanks for watching these fun and educational videos and coming along with us as we learn!

This is awesome, thank you for sharing your experiences, I am so glad to see the younger generation interest in our great American history and journey, I am a huge fan of history, I live in Upstate NY where the name Lafayette can be found everywhere in the eastern states, named after Marcus Washington Lafayette who was one of George Washington's best friends and right hand man, Lafayette was a great explorer in the eastern side of the union Hence that name towns, Malls, Motels etc, etc, were named after him. The most important document in the world at least in my opinion is the Constitution of the United States of America not because Americans are better than anyone else in the world but because America is and always has been and always will be, the beacon of Freedom, and it was our founding fathers that become the true visionaries of our time. very cool and yet important stuff.

George Washington was in financial debt after the war of Independence. He sacrificed 8 years of his life to just fighting for our Independence. His estate was at over 60,000 acres at one time. America only had a population of 3 million at the time. It took him years to recover from his financial issues due to the war. He ended up selling large portions of his land to get out of debt. If anyone read about his life they would appreciate what he has done for America.

21:30 appr. The sheathes of grain were brought into the upper level of the circular style barn and layed on the floor. the floor had small gaps so the grain would fall into the lower level as horses would walk circles across it. The straw then would remain on the top floor and then would be used as bedding for livestock and filling mattresses. Great tour, thanks for sharing.

Good video. My family was exhausted walking Washington D.C. so when we returned to our hotel in Alexandria in around 2009 or so I went on my own and made it about 45 minutes prior to closing. I did a 45 minute speed walk of the grounds and inside the house. The big thing I remember is a massive storm rolling in and as I was standing between the house and the Potomac there was a wall of purple clouds moving in for the storm. After driving back to our hotel we left right away with refund since most of the power in the D.C. area was knocked out. We started driving out which was forunately the opposite side of the interstate from all the traffic stuck and not moving for many hours. Thanks for the video, as I enjoyed watching in detail what I missed that day.

Thank you so much for the tour! Geo Washington loved Mt Vernon & always longed to be there & manage his farm.
When he was there he would ride over the whole estate checking out every part of it every day. He was such a good manager.
But duty for his country called him away over & over. I believe after he finally got to retire he went on his daily check of his property & got caught in a rain storm, caught cold & quickly died right there in his bed.
We are so blessed to have had such a dedicated Father of our country!

Had tons of info and reference material for the war in the Long Island, Staten Island, Hudson River to W Point, NJ and CN. So much personal history of people both Loyalists and Rebels and the real hatreds that existed between them - just like in the Civil War the Revolutionary war split families and neighbors against each other. Stories of privacy supported by both sides , discription of admiral Howe’s Fleet filling Sandy Hook Bay Area with masts. Etc.

@@alanaadams7440 That's a common misconception, but it actually isn't accurate. The Revolutionary War wasn't fought against the institution of monarchy itself, but against being governed by a body (Parliament) in which they had no representation or voice. People often forget that in this time period, monarchy was the most well known and most successful form of government. For the founding fathers, it was all they had ever known. As a result, when they started to work out what the new American government would look like, many of them naturally looked to monarchy to draw ideas from. It was, in fact, initially suggested that George Washington be named King... and it was he himself who turned it down, stating that he felt a system built on hereditary privilege would too easily lead to corruption. In the end, the rest of the founding fathers listened to him, but these are details that have been altered over time, as often happens with history.

I visited Mount Vernon in 1985 with my wife, oldest son and my parents. As I watched your video there were many things that I didn't remember. I do remember going through the house and the tombs. We were actually able to enter the tombs then. The mansion was interesting as it was built in such a way as to appear that it was made of stone. The builders used wood boards and beveled the edges to make them resemble stone. Also if you notice the windows are even in number and placement. This was done by installing some non functioning windows. It was all about aesthetics. As you noticed there were a lot of fruit tress, especially apple trees. Great video. But your missing details in your excitement during filming. The style of the home is Palladian. A beautiful breezeway connects the two buildings you were discussing. In that era everything was handmade. The iron fittings for doors, cabinets and more. Those wide plank wood walls are shiplap boards. Usually the bricks were also made on site. It’s really a huge labor intensive undertaking to clear and build even the simplest structure during this time period. Keep up your good work!

So thank you for giving me a little piece of the history I have yet to see myself.

    Remember this:
    1 Timothy 6:10
( For the love of money is the root of all evil, and while some have coveted
after it, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.)
I find this horrific, This is like glorifying Hitler, and to see them making money from this, makes my blood pressure rise. I do understand why people see this as a wonderful experience, but for so many people who were in bondage, murdered, and enslaved, it was a crime against humanity. His sacrifice for this country was not for all men, but for whites only. I guess if I was a white person, I would find this great because I have benefited from it. And, let me add this. Your actions in life, reflect your character, so be careful labeling someone or something great, because if Hitler, was successful, would he have been considered great. So many people have died and suffered for White Americans' freedom, and to this day we have people being shot dead on the streets Mass incarceration, the unfair and unjust legal system, horrible policing which started with the slave patrols, Genocide of the Native Americans, And ramped racism, just because of their skin color. And now we have a Racist in the white house. I don't have the answers for this atrocity, but I, can not glorify this. I'm not angry, I just have so many feelings about are history and, why we accept and justify such a horrible history. I'm pretty sure if this was the enslavement of white Americans, the reaction would be different.

President Washington, ever the entrepreneur -- he died with little money, but had for years been paid for his military service with land, but when he passed the estate Was wealthy because of all his land holdings -- would be I believe very proud of the historic museum preservation of Mount Vernon and the amazing tourist draw it has become. Thank you for sharing your visit and experience. For a wonderful comprehensive read, Ron Chernow's biography "Washington" presents a wonderful story and complement of the tour.

Maybe if all the urbanites ever saw these places and actually knew anything about history they would see how stupid their attempted history rewrites are. Their parents never took them anywhere when they were just bred for baby mamas free income.

You did a really great job showing the sites and explaining each feature. You also did an outstanding job orienting your viewers on the property. I noticed it right from the beginning and you continued to do it throughout, which I appreciated and helped me feel like I was right there with you! I also enjoyed the respect you both showed not only for the burial sites of the Washingtons and their slaves but for the history itself. I was really touched by Brennan's enthusiasm after the house tour and how she wanted to see everything and touch his bed! Her eyes were sparkling with excitement and I thought that was really cute and sweet and it was very clear that you were also very excited and interested in everything. As a 60 year old woman I was frankly very happily surprised by both of your reactions to this amazing experience. My hubby and I love history and would love to someday visit the historical sites of the revolutionary and civil wars and every museum we can but so far we haven't been able to make the trip from California (maybe next year!) So I'm really glad to see that you appreciate the great opportunity to visit a place of such great historical and cultural experience AND for doing such a fantastic job of sharing it with others. It's my first time on your channel but you were both so cute I'm definitely going to subscribe and see what other adventures await! (Btw I said it almost felt like I was on the tour with you but be glad I wasn't, I would have wrestled you to the ground and stole that delicious looking burger you were munching on (I may be old but I'm freakishly strong when I'm hungry and there's nothing I love more than a big juicy bacon cheeseburger!) 😋 Happy New Year from a history buff in Sacramento California (Gold Country!)

After watching a series of George Washington I found this ..You both are so lovely and so respectful its just beautiful to see
that maybe more people like you would learn from this and go out and discover our American history. I enjoyed it so much
and want to thank you and say God bless you . It is important to mention, he inherited those slaves which he loved and grew up with .
He desperately wanted to set them free way earlier then he did as his wife and him thought if they did people would start a rebellion
as they were not educated enough to know slavery is wrong and they learned that they were just good people and george being a pisces
born the day before me was sensitive to their feelings he cared so much for others .
I just had to let people know it was not their fault this was hundreds of years ago sad but they loved him and martha loved them as her own family ..Thank you again much love 1776 God bless America united we stand

Thanks for the in-depth tour! I was there last fall when the trees were beautiful. I got there when it opened and there was very few people. I actually walked down to the tombs and I was there by myself. I am a big fan of Pres. Washington and have read a lot about him and his presidency. I agree with you about the house tour being frustrating. I didn't go upstairs as it was so crowded by the time my tour took place. I sat on the porch in a rocking chair overlooking the Potomac for a long while though. It's good that people see his home and understand how he treated his slaves. He was a man our country needed very badly at the time, and has not been matched in his value since. Thanks again, you did a great job!
