I hang my tents behind doors to keep air flowing through them. Two of my tents, my Moss Outland and Eureka Alpine Meadows waterproof coating off gassed and became tacky, but eventually went away. I re-waterproofed with Grangers' and Nik Wax.

That depends on the size of your living room. Will it even fit? Make sure the floor is clean. If you have carpet, vacuum it first. Move any items out of the way (such as furniture), and make sure no pets can get into that area, as they might want to explore this new thing in the house, and end up putting their claws or teeth into it. I set up my 8-person tent in my two-car garage with moving blankets spread out on the floor. Setting up a tent at home is a great thing to do which familiarizes you with the tent assembly and gives you confidence that you can set it up correctly at a campsite. Also, you can check for missing parts and any damage that may need repair.

I'd say wash it in the ocean but I have no knowledge of how the ingredients in this wash do there and no understanding of tent-ocean chemistry. I will be washing my 2 man tent in a Rubbermaid with no idea how many years and layers of stank are on there.

If you use a hand wash programme with low temperature and just add normal soap instead of detergent then it virtually makes no difference...
