I’m biased but even out of all those Russians Detroit had. If you’re number 1 pick in a solely Russian draft 7 or 8 out of 10 take Ovi. The remaining would take Bure. But none of Detroit’s Russians. Ovi is the 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐 from Russia hands down.

A couple rules about hitting in hockey if you're interested: First, no head contach. Second, no use of elbow, head or knee-on-knee contact. Third(this relates to what you were asking) a player can only be hit when they have or recently been in possession of the puck. You can probably find more if you google it

recipioct You're correct. It is a penalty if the hitter leaves his feet prior to making contact, but if he leaves his feet after making contact, it's not a penalty.
also, a hit can't be to the back of a player ("don't hit in the numbers" is a common phrase)
Head contact is allowed if it was unintentional and/or the recieving player changes the position of his head at the last moment

It's Oh-Vetch-kin... He's still on the Caps and yes, you most certainly should go see them. Season is over within a week and playoffs are pricey, but I don't think you'll leave disappointed... Only thing you likely won't see is fighting, it rarely happens in the postseason.

cant believe you havent heard of ovechkin. hes the biggest star in the nhl with crosby for like 10 years, and he was drafted by the capitals and always played with them. he was the #1 top scorer in the league couple times also.

Ovechkin has been the superstar of the Capitals for basically a decade. He has 5 years left on a snug, 13 year, $124 million contract. I'm not a capitals fan, but live near by and love going to games at verizon center. Playoffs start in a week and you can get decent cheap seats for $90 a piece.

In case you're still wondering, a player can hit a player from the opposing team if: a) the opposing team's player has the puck, or is about to get the puck, or has just gotten rid of the puck. So, just (a), really.

Yeah you guys can still go see him play. He’s still one of the best in the league scoring the most goals in the nhl from the 2013-2014 2015-2016 seasons. Hockey’s the fastest sport on the planet and is very exciting to watch. You guys should definately catch a game at some point.

Ovi in my opinion is the in the top three best goal scorers in the league along with Kane and Crosby. Also you guys should check out "Best NHL Shootout Goals" by Highlight Factory.

To help you out on what is a legal hit in hockey, the head can't be the primary target of a hit, and you can't hit at the knee or lower either. Also, you generally have to hit a guy who has the puck, but if someone else skates into you and you knock them down, that's fine. Additionally, hitting a guy in the back while he's facing the wall is also a penalty, "hitting from behind", and depending on how hard you hit the guy, you could get kicked out of the game.
As for Alex Ovechkin, most players don't have hands like him. He's a superstar player. But he also happens to be a very solidly built guy who hits people a lot.

Oh- vech - kin. 6ft 3 235lbs. Born in Moscow. Both parents were athletes, mother was on the Russian female basketball team.
He has led the league in goals scored more seasons then any other player in NHL history.
It is hard to compare his stats because he has played his career during the "cold puck era" scoring is almost half of what it was 30 years ago. He also has over 2500 hits in his career. But he has never won the cup and at 32 time is running out.
In hockey, a legal hit includes your elbow being down and your shoulder making contact. Your also allowed to check with your hip, chest, forearm etc. For the most part so long as your elbow is down its usually considered a clean check. Illegal hits usually include things like jumping into the guy your about to check or targeting the guys head. Also the puck is supposed to be near the guy you're going to hit. Excessive force in which the guy doesn't get back up is also a penalty as is intentionally injuring the guy you checked.
Regrding legal hits vs. illegal hits: it is legal to hit a player who is carrying the puck or to complete a hit that you had already engaged on a player while they still had the puck. Otherwise, the player committing the hit is guilty of interference. It is illegal to use one's stick, elbow, or knee to hit another player, and one is not allowed to target another player's head or knees. One can also not hit a player from behind and cannot hit a player when they're in a sort of no man's land distance from the boards that renders them vulnerable to severe injury should they be fall face first into the boards as a result of said hit.

Hi guys....you guys are awesome. You can hit a player when he has the puck. Also when a player makes a pass he can be hit just after making the play ( usually around 1 sec) this is called finishing a check.

Ovechkin still plays for the Caps, but im here to answer your question about hitting in hockey. You cant not hit some one UNLESS they have the puck or within a small time of them having the puck, cant aim for the head or have head contact with a hit, you cant trip or clip someones leg with your leg, you can not throw your body/jump into the hit, you cant bring up your elbow or use the elbow to hit, and if a opposing player is facing the boards/glass you can not hit them going head first/facing the boards/glass

You are allowed to hit a player if they have control of the puck (or if they are JUST ABOUT to have control of the puck, or they JUST released control of the puck) If you hit a player who is nowhere near the puck it is considered "interference." (2 minute minor penalty)
Also, you are not allowed to hit a player if you take several strides across the ice and/or leave your feet into the hit, this is considered "charging" (depending on severity 2 minute minor or 5 minute major penalty)
In addition, you are not allowed to target a players head. The primary point of contact must not be on a players head (provided that the player being hit did not change their body position IMMEDIATELY prior to the hit, and thus resulting in a hgit to the head.) This is a 5 minute major and a game misconduct (ejection from the game.)
Even if not determined to be an illegal hit by the on ice officials, it could be reviewed by the NHL department of player safety and may result in a fine or suspension if they find it was an illegal hit.
You're allowed to hit a skater with puck possession at all times within the legal limits which are not charging at the guy (2-3 hard strides before the hit) or elbowing and cross checking to the face. you can hit when they pass the puck away or lose it within a like 1-2 sec window also (that's called finishing your hit).

Since you did Pavel Datsyuk, you should do TJ Oshie highlights. They call Datsyuk the best ever, but Oshie is really darn close to his level. For Oshie, definitely look for shootout highlights. He's one of the best in the business since Datsyuk left.

It is a penalty if:
The head is the primary point of contact
The person being hit has their back turned
Someone takes multiple steps before hitting someone
The elbow is raised
And a few others I may be forgetting but those are the main points
