Ovechkin is one of the best goal scorers of all time, but unlike most goal scorers, he plays very physical, dishes out huge hits and isn't afraid to fight. The Russian Machine is one of a kind!

Ovechkin's(6 ft 3inch, 240lbs) slap shot has been clocked at just over 101 mph which is close to the hardest slap shot ever recorded at 108.9 mph by Zdeno Chara (6ft 9inch, 250 lbs). You really ought to watch the spotlight that the 60 Minutes news show puts on Chara. You'd love it. He is a giant and a warrior. An athlete from another planet it seems.

Ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer ever. He’s 6’3” 240lbs, pure power. He’s 36 yrs old which is up there for a hockey player because of the wear on their bodies but he’s showing no sings of slowing down.
He has 780 career goals all with 1 team. He’s 3rd in all-time scoring and is chasing Gretzky’s record of 894. It would likely take him 3 more seasons to break it.
Watch some highlights of his hits. He levels guys, like running into a brick wall.

He's great, in that he has consistently scored a lot of goals, but guys like Gretzky and Brett Hull (his dad was a great scorer,
too) have scored a lot more goals in a season. Gretzky scored 92 goals. Hull about 86 goals. Mario Lemieux 85 goals. Ovechkin had 65 goals in a season. Up there, but not at the levels of those players and a few more.

@@ORagnar no dude...listen, I'm old school, been watching hockey since '77 and OV is absolutely on the same level of those guys. When you account for era and how much scoring is down now compared to the 80's/early 90's, OV is right there. The league average was around 7-8 goals per game through the 80's/early 90's. The average has been around 5 per game over the last 20 years.

Ovechkin is a 3-time world champion, Stanley Cup winner and holds many world records. Also recognized in 2006 as the best NHL player in history, he was the Captain of the Washington Capitals team, then returned to Russia. Part-time and head of the general staff of the hockey club Dynamo Moscow, he returned to Russia. But in my opinion, he still plays for the club in America and is now even preparing for the new season. Generally an international player

    - Mario Lemieux’s highlights arguably better than Gretzky (if you ask a Penguins fan), but had to recover from cancer in the middle of his career
    - Bobby Orr
    - For a very “North American” style of hockey taken nearly to the absurd, watch something about the Broad Street Bullies - the Philadelphia Flyers from the early 1970’s
And while it would be difficult to do a video on it, think y’all would enjoy watching the movie Slapshot.

I gave it a shot and wanted to keep my teeth so I let it go. Yes I can Ice skate. A slap varies, the great are 85- 90 mph, The greater are 90 - 95 and the greatest are 95 to 105. Its not about speed though as it is deception or surprise. Some just cant catch up to it and some are just humbled by the surprise. They know Ovie on a powerplay is coming with it and it not his speed but timing. I will watch hockey before I watch football. Trust me on that. Lmao people underate hockey players so much. These guys weigh 200+ pounds, stand 6ft+ on ice and skate at around 12-20mph on ice skates, while other players try to hit them at full speed and beat them up with clubs. The edge work required at this high of a skill level requires 10,000 hours to master just in itself while speed, agility, puck handling, and shooting are all around the same amount of time. A snap or wrist shot in the NHL reaches 70-80mph. A slap shot which Ovechkin is known for can go 100+ mph and will easily snap bones like a twig. So the majority of those highlights you guys watched were all at real time speed. It is by far one of the most demanding sports as well as one of the fastest sports. When you they get the puck you have to make split second decisions on the play you want to make before you get ran over by the other team. In terms of endurance I would say its about the same as soccer. Players skate end to end at full speed for 45 seconds while taking and delievering hits and get about a 1 minute break before doing it again. As for physical contact it can be about the same as football if not worse do to the extra amount of force behind the skater going full speed. A well placed hit has been known to end careers from concussions and break bones all the time. Honestly the only reason hockey isnt more popular is because of the cost to play. Gear will easily run you $1000+ depending on age and Ive had seasons cost $10k with all the traveling fees and everything, but damn. There is nothing better than this sport imo.

PK Subban is not the only black player in the NHL. His brother was also in the NHL. Although there are not as many black players as others there has always been black folks in hockey. The first league players were all black teams out of Canada. You should look up Willy O’Ree. First black NHL player. He is receiving the gold medal of honor in Washington this year. And he still works for the NHL in their hockey for everyone program. Weeks who was the goalie for the NHL works for ESPN. The NHL works with a blogger I have a blog called The Color of Hockey. And just in case you didn’t know Jamaica has a hockey team now. Not NHL but working to go to the Olympics.

In 1977' NYC had over 1,000 hrs. Of below freezing temperatures. The ice got 3 ft. Thick. We took a 1970 station wagon on the river.
    Watch Ice Road Truckers.
There are some terrific goalies out there. Martin Brodeur is a great goalie.
Gordie Howe Patrick is a goal, an assist and a fight. He played from the 1950s to 2000s on and off when he was 70.

to answer your question @ 7:00, they have a "fastest shot" competition every year at the All Star game, and the winner's shot is generally between 100-110 mph.

If you would like to see more hockey videos. I suggest ones about Bob Probert. Also Bob Probert and Joey Kocer from the Detroit RED Wings in the 1990's. They were called the Bruise Brothers. The ones with Bob Probert are the best.

As nice a guy as you ever want to meet. He and his wife do a lot for DC. Particularly for kids. He is the biggest supporter of the oldest black hockey program for children at Fort Dupont in DC. When they won the Stanley Cup each player gets a turn taking it for a day. He took it to Fort Dupont celebrate with the kids.

The fastest recorded slapshot was 109 mph by Zdeno Chara. Most players can hit about 100mph, Wristshots only go 80-90mph but have a much quicker release so less time for the goalie to react, in comparison the fastest mlb pitchers can hit 101-103mph

  • @AzaMinis
    @AzaMinis Рік тому

In the NHL Hardest Shots contests, the winners are usually shooting just over 100mph. In real game situations, shots can vary a lot, but sometimes approach 90mph in a perfect slapshot scenario.

As brutal as hits in football are, it's been scientifically proven that hits in hockey are substantially harder. There just isn't as much consistent physical engagement like in football, but hockey players are generally moving around on ice at 20-25 mph. Imagine getting hit by that, or being involved in an open ice hit 20mph vs 20mph in the opposite direction. It's like going 40mph to a complete stand still immediately. That shit will rattle your fucking brain around.
