Yes John, they are great. Got mine too early, so without CRMX:-( Even a single unit with the dome, the bigger silicon one (extra) is the perfect eye-light.
Hi @@NYCgaffer the DOT is a silicone add-on accessory for the DASH that acts like a large round diffuser/softbox, it allows you to as just a small glint in someone's eye for instance.
I've just finished on a 5 part series set on a defunct boeing 747. These lights were a lifesaver, together with the overhead lighting (astera tubes) and some helios tubes they were just the right light to cram in a corner here and there or use in the cockpit. kitchen lights and downlighters (where the plane lighting was removed or even hidden in handles of the hatches. We used the silicone domes for the 1st class stairs and on a boompole. Brilliant lights. We had 12 of them
I wish I had 12. That would be handy when cycling through charging. I'm just surviving with 4, and running out if battery at the end of the shoots. I have to say they have never disappointed me, probably one of my best investments.
@@gaffergear Same here. I've made bajonet and E27 adapters with an isolated metal plate so I can just hang it in any table downlighter and add the magnetic coupler. Game changer. Especially combined with the dot accessory. Gives a nice downlight source.
nice review, but Andrew, could you do a 'beginners' look at the crmx, as well as the remote light controls, as most still photographers, like me, who look at your site for the constant light, as well as the grip (stand and clamp) reviews don't know about that stuff, as for us, we use radio or on-board flash control from our dslr's or a "air", or other pocket wizard remote controller, or the ballast on a broncolor or profoto flash system.
Question: say you are controlling the unit via CRMX and you have a slider which has values of 0 to 100. When the Dash is changed over to Boost mode how does the control software from your console deal with that extra 25 points of brightness? Does 125% become the new “100%” on the console?
Hi Slide Wreck Dan, the DASH uses CRMX, so depending on the profile you are using, you could easily fit a few tens or even a hundred fixtures on a single DMX universe. If you want more, you might need to add more DMX transmitters to expand your number of universes.
Hello! While using this in crmx did you notice that dimming is not that smooth? Even if you use the dmx smooth and linear dimming curve i can feel the LED dimming but not really smoothly. Might be difficult to do on camera dimming effects.
whoa a pocket light with CRMX and low kelvin. Nice! Random question. Are those Par 64 cans on your shelf? Where did you purchase those? Been looking everywhere and can't seem to find any new...
Yes they are, they are dam old and have so much dust in them it would take haft a day to clean them. I was lucky enough to find a box of 10 NSP lamps for $20, and that's keeping them running.
I use MC Pros, DMG dash and hydra panels. All have different brightness levels and different footprints. The Dash is my more common go to light because its size and power seems to be ideal as a CRMX controllable bulb in a lamp shade.
Light is very interesting. The only thing that I don't like with this or many others small lights is that internal batteries are not standard and not replaceable. I mean that in general this unit can work for 10 years or more. But Li-Ion or Li-Po batteries don't live so long. After battery is dead this unit is useless. And because this or similar lights are rare (not like iPhone) there is no service or parts where you can simply change battery to the new. I will be very happy and buy some units with pack of standard Li-Ion 18650 batteries, but there are no on market. And because this light costs a lot this is a serious question. Did you have any problems with this kind of pocket lights or tube lights that run on batteries? Dead batteries or noticeable decrease in capacity after few years of using?
Hi Sigma-Epsilon, thank you for your comment. Unlike other lights, we designed our's with repairability in mind. To replace the battery, you just need to unscrew 4 torx screws on the back, and you gain access to the battery that can easily be removed and a new one can be soldered in. We do not recommend end users to do this on their own, nor using any off the shelve batteries, as it is a safety hazard. The DMG DASH has a high temperature custom 6000mAh battery and we'll be happy to replace it a few years from now in most of our Rosco facilities worldwide for a reasonable cost. I hope this can help you understand a bit more about the product's lifespan.
@@charliefromrosco986 "soldered in" is not repairable. A depot-level battery replacement program is certainly better than nothing and generally this seems like a great product. But it would be really great if a truly user-replaceable battery can be in the mk2! Hopefully it would be in a standard form-factor (which are available in high-temp versions), but even having a stockable LiPo with a standard connector would be a step in the right direction. I note this specific anti-end-user issue is widespread across many industries so please don't think I am unfairly targeting Rosco here; it is an opportunity to differentiate in an important and valuable way.

A Rosco rep came by our school and gave us a demo of these lights. Glad to see your video and thoughts on it literally the next day after the visit.
I've been waiting a long time for something with this form factor to include CRMX.
Me too
This is what I wanted out of the MC. Holy crap. I love it
Well, I'm going to be buying a set of these as soon as they're in stock. Like an Aputure MC on steroids.
Thank you for your detailed reviews! Greetings from Switzerland. :)
Sold! You should get a commission😀
DAMN! snubbed by the Bozz from Ozz! Loved seeing y’all this past summer great interviews 👏
Looks a great bit of kit.
Excellent presentation.
Have the 4 kit on order awaiting delivery… these def look like real winners. As you say, finally a pocket light with CRMX!

I recommend the silicone dot accessory. I hardly use a single dash without it.

The Androokie kits are great, but stupidly expensive. I've been hunting around eBay or buying the kupo magnets separately.
Great review. How does this RGBALW light quality compare to Aputure MC Pro RGBWW? Would you buy MC or DMG Dash now?

if I wanted to program this light to pulse to a beat a song via CRMX, is that possible?
Only if the person running the CRMX has a program that can to that. I don't think it has an easy to use pre-programmed effects profile.

My Pavotubes are now 3 years old and they do run for a slightly shorter run time. I would say I've lost 10 to 15 minutes.

Hi, thanks a ton for all your work and for sharing all the data and your impressions. What kind of console are you using here?
Exalux control one
I am to get a four pack - quick question re Exalux did you just use an existing DMG profile?
Yes, it's a match
Can you run this plugged in to a power source?
I believe so, I ran it like that at full power, while charging, no problem as I could see
Maybe this question has been asked before but as things stand, are RGBALW lights more colour accurate than RGBWW lights? Many thanks Andrew
In white light mode.... And I'm basing this on all the testing I've done,.... CCT accuracy yes, white point accuracy yes, colour render no.
