I think everyone needs to stop calling them "Loop Switchers", it's just confusing since there are pedals called "Loopers", which is something completely different. If you neccessary need to use the word "loop" then call it "Effect Loop Switcher". I myself think it's sufficient to call it "Effect Switcher" or simply "Switcher".
I think I got the wrong thing I thought a loop switch let my use to instruments with separate switches
Yeah, I thought the same thing for a long time, that loopers are what some musicians would use to just layer instruments while performing alone.
Totally agreed, I kept seeing loop switchers and thought it was a really fancy loop pedal
I disagree. Things have different names, and the differences matter. Pay attention and you won't get confused. 👍
@@DropkickM16The word "loop" is quite unnecessary since the main function is to switch between different effects. The fact that this is accomplished by using several FX-loops isn't really important for communication. Would you call an amplifier with an FX-loop a "loop amp"?
Wow, this was exactly what I was hoping to find. Really nicely done (at least, I thought so!) Thank you for taking the time to put that together. Super helpful to an absolute noob! Cheers from North Carolina!
The first good loop switcher video I’ve seen, nice vid, easy to understand, I might buy one soon cause I have sone tricky pedal switches with my band playing live
Keep making these!
My favorite loop switchers are the Harley Benton StompControl-4 Iso (89€), which is also a power supply, and the Electro-Harmonix Tri-Parallel Mixer (129€) which is great for keeping a dirty channel and a clean channel separate so that you can mix to taste without losing all the definition of your signal.
Great info, but also great solo. 💙
Great video! Thanks!
Great video!
Your clear and concise information here is informative and entertaining! Assuming you personally have a single switcher on hand, but might have been curious about others: I've looked for clear information as to which of all the switchers available (2023) actually let you choose - on the fly - any order of pedals, perhaps even serial/parallel etc.
Have you ever seen that kind of information assembled in one place? As far as I can tell, there are only 2-3 switchers (Boss: ES-5 and ES-8, right?? RJM: PBC/6X - but not their PBC/10; Sound Sculpture: Switchblade ET - but not offically released/purchase-able yet; and maybe there are others) that aside from handling several/quite a few pedals also offer unlimited ability to choose pedals-order on the fly, by a button press for instance. Are you aware of any others?
Manufacturers are (mostly) not especially forthcoming with that exact information (unlimited pedals-order control, or not)...
I have a Boss ES-5 loop switcher but stopped using it. Love the idea of the switcher but, ironically, I found using it needlessly complicating things. The Boss design and interface never seemed intuitive to me. So at least for me, its easier just to run a minimalist board. YMMV.
Awesome video! Only question, If you hit a pedal that is plugged into the looper will it still activate and act like a normal straight through signal chain? Or do all pedals plugged into the looper have to be activated via looper?
Informative vdo 👍
Thanks for the video! If I need to put some pedals in front of the Amp (wha, distortion,...) and others in the loop effect (chorus, Rev,...), can I still work with a loop switcher?
Preach! You need one, if you like, combining a bunch of pedals, unless you like having to do a tap dance live, been there..
Still there lol. This is what I need!! Lol
I have a few questions.
1) Could one of those switch buttons on the ES-5 be used to switch channel on an amplifier as well? Basically removing the need for an average footswitch?
2) What if you have a W/D/W rig and thus have a splitter that splits your signal to more than one amp? Where/how would a loop switcher fit into such a scenario?
3) What if you have a preamp pedal that goes through the FX-loop of your amp but also has a bypass switch that allows you to bypass this preamp completely for use of the amp's preamp? Could this bypass function somehow be assigned to a switch button on the loop switcher?
Hi Steven, r u using a clean amp and allowing your pedals to provide the OD and Distortion? I'd like to see how the Loop Switcher can also control the channels and other settings on the amp along with your pedals.
Great video, certainly got my interest as I'm wanting to switch in more than one pedal at once with just one button press. However, I use some of my pedals in the amp effects loop and some in front of the amp, so my question is could a looper be used to switch on say a tube screamer going in the front of the amp, plus a delay pedal in the effects loop at the same time?
I'm sure with some of the more sophisticated units this is possible, the Gigrig for example. I don't know about my ES5 though. Sorry!
@@StevenJoseph Hey there do you run all of your effects through the front of the amp then? What amp?

Any recommendations on a vid that goes through the very basics ie shows how to plug in each loop etc?
honestly it really is VERY simple I dont think that necessary. If you get one you'll figure it out instantly. thanks
I use four pedals and even I am considering a Loop switcher.
I mean...if you need to turn two or more on/off at the same time why not!
Maybe it's Cost to Features ratio that made most of us not use these.
I don't really know but it's easy to go for features we've heard a lot of and wanted to try for ourselves when we have some cash to spend on things guitar.
Hi!
If my pedals aren’t midi, but my loop switcher is (like the boss), could I still have my live show control when each loop turns on and off?
I'm wondering how this would work if half of my pedals normally run through my effects loop and the other half are in the front of my amp.
Does it change analog signal to digital? How do you like this boss es5? Anything u find it insufficient?
Can different parameters be done with the presets on analog stomp boxes? Saturated Reverb on 1 and light Rev on the other?
Why? Because I have absolutely no idea how to wire a switcher up and even less idea about anything to do with MIDI! I have loads of pedals and cannot decide which ones to put onto a pedal board. So what happens is that I constantly change what I use. I also have a Line 6 multi effects unit and cannot figure out how to save and use presets. I am old. Help?
Would this work with amp sims, like neutral dsp ect?
What is the Boss Dual Foot Switch, bottom left doing in this pedal train?
I always tell every my fellow guitarist about the use of these. Very gew get the point. Isnt it great to change the whole pack of effects and preamp channels with a single tap??... They keep on dancing on their boards instead
Well they arent cheap and take up a lot of board space! But if you're someone who needs lots of changes to happen at once then theyre a no brainer!
Can you put a footswitch in this? I mean for example channel 1 is DISTO from amp, and channel 2 is delay pedal, but when pressing « 2 » the footswitch switches from amp distortion channel from clean channel from the amp ?
I'm not 100% sure i understand the question tbh. The Boss has TRS expression control outs which can be used to switch amp channels or switch anything that has TRS input.
How do I decide which pedals don't go inside "the system" if I have a few more than switchers? Besides "Always On" pedals you mentioned.
For me drive pedals take priority as these are the ones I switch on/off the most. If you can get MIDI controllable pedals and a MIDI loop switcher you can have those out the switcher but still control them, which I do with a couple of pedals on my board.
My issue is that I use alot of pedals and doing the presets is kinda complicated for me.
I have over six stereo pedals. There are no PBC (Pedal Board Controller) solutions under $850.
Random Question, Does the pbc 10 have in-built mixer?
pbc?
Thanks! Jesus loves you Brother
I want to have a loop switcher but ..I can't afford it😥
What pedalboard is that? Thanks
You might want to look into the audio setup for your videos. It looks great, the guitar sounds great, the content is great, but the dialogue is a bit rough. Don't let your great content get ignored because your dialogue doesn't sound great. Sounds like it's clipping a bit and sounds too roomy, you might want closer micing. Proper tight shotgun and a lav mic can really make the difference.
I can hear him just fine. You mean well, but come off very nit-picky, lol
One thing I'm a little confused about: can every pedal be used with a loop switcher?
yes
Also with tone suck I just use buffers
I have a question. If you wanted to use multiple amps, could you just use the send on the loop switcher, but instead of using the return you plug it straight into the amp?
yes
@@StevenJoseph ok. Thanks!
Fx loop. I have to put modulation in fx loop. Can you do that and control them separately? Seems complicated
I an ES-8 and on my unit an effect can be put in an effects loop. The unit he is demoing is an ES-5 which has less features than my switcher - so I am not sure about the features of the ES-5... And yes - these switchers can be a little complicated,
@@ruffrider6653 Yes, you can with the ES-8 because I own one and I use the 4 cable method with it, but the ES-5 does not have a volume loop, so you don't have the ability to use an effects loop with that.
@@madderbass This is an old question, but you can use an FX loop with it. You just have to sacrifice one of your 5 loops on the Boss ES-5. On the ES-8, you can use the Volume Loop, so you still have the ability to still use all 8 loops.
why you chose to open the compressor everything?
I mean everytime
Change your cables. I used to have those and they're not great to say the least.
i now use 3 monkeys solderless
Moreover, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say most guitar players won't be as neat as you are with your pedal board 😊 we tend to be rather messy and not as organised as you are😅
Pedal switchers...they are too expensive😢
Can you select 2 channels at once?
2 amp channels???
Maybe some better patch cables to do justice to pedals?
What make of pedal board is that? Cheers!
temple audio
Too expensive and many have one or two stereo loops when really they should all be stereo.
acctually its not under used,.. there is no more space on my board. hahaha
yo great content; horrible echo. maybe grab a shotgun mic or a clip-on. otherwise, awesome vid. good depth of field and nice backdrop
Regarding the boss unit to answer your question why don't more people use them is because they want more than one pedal in a loop they might want three or four petals in each Loop, and it appears the boss is designed for individual pedals in the loop and it's a lot of money to spend to experiment to find out that's not what you want that's why
Cause people can’t afford them and the learning curve

man sucks....get a procesor effect .90 procent your pedalboard is digital....so the ton is .....digital.on effect procesor is for you a beether choise...for somene who use a lot a pedal analogic ist very importen........try to use first one pedal solo for the ton and the amp whitout somnting else, and after that use next whit your swich and same settings and you see the diferent the swich digital afect your tone even the padal its analogic or digital....your swich is digital and the ton is algoritm and modificat...i use boss psm 5 and line selector ls 2 and a octaswich analogic who i thinc they not afect my tone...i use a lot a swich digital and unfortune afect the ton especialiy the distors and overdrive pedal.try this and will see.by
What if all your pedals are analog?
