The Nebulon B was always one of my favorite ships due to the crazy design. Your interpretation looks super bombad. It makes sense, because the YWing we see in the films and such are themselves stripped of armour playing as seen in Clone Wars.
Such a gorgeous ship, undoubtedly one of my favorites you've done so far. I'd love to see you give the Resistance ships from TLJ like the Nebulon-C and Bunker Buster the same treatment at some point, since it's pretty obvious those ships were partially scrapped and missing a pretty hefty amount of the armor plating and such they originally had when fresh off the production line
In this non canon continuity I imagine the C was simply another amalgam of salvaged Nebulon hardware pressed into service. Possibly existing in it's on screen form during the rebellion era or being assembled from vintage hardware by the resistance in a similar fashion to what the rebels had done.
This has to be my favourite ship design so far, I absolutely love seeing these Imperial vessels in their glory, and genuinely wish they'd make an appearance in SW canon, because they are gorgeous.
I already loved the Nebulon B frigate before, but this design I can love even more because it's true to it's imperial origins and can truly be a contender for galaxy wide deployment. An up armoured hull reducing the mid section weak point, more robust firepower, a hangar with a versatile loadout (x12 Tie Fighters, x6 Tie Bomber/Shuttle, 1x Lambda), concussion missile launchers, and adding on it's other known strengths. I can easily see how this ship could be chosen over something like an Arquitens light cruiser in convoy escort, planetary defense/blockade, or even as a support vessel in a fleet battle.
Kota's Nebulon in Force Unleashed II had like a hundred A-wings and Y-wings as well as a whole damn railway connecting both ends There's like no agreed-upon size for this thing
I never truly like the rebel alliance nebulon-b but when you designed the Imperial nebulon-b I just fell in love and is now my personal favorite ship if I was in Star Wars I would actually own and to command one of these beautiful Starships
Wow, 80% of these images actually look like studio models. Amazing work on the textures and film grain. Also: Something about this makes me really rewatch the Battlestar Galactica reboot. I am not sure whether it is the hangar, or the similarity shaped forward section.
i got to admit this has to be one of my favorite fan design. Having something that looks fresh out of the dock compared to the bones we see is amazingly well done. You got me subscribed and I am bookmarking your friends art page.
Holy shit that's amazing! I remember being like 8 and thinking that the Nebulon they showed in Empire was cool but looked like a deathtrap, this design maintains its interesting lines and overall hull architecture but actually manages to make something that doesn't look like a star destroyer could shoot it in half in under a second. I also really like the lore you came up with, as it's exactly like something the empire would do.
I always love these videos, especially the extended lore to justify all the alterations. They reminded me of the extensive work the designers for the Thunderbirds are Go! show put into updating the 60s style vehicles for the 21st century, with so many logical features added without compromising the iconic silhouette of the ships.
Agreed, updates/reimaginings when done well are a joy to behold. EC Henry The guys behind the new Thunderbirds series definitely fall into that category of design work.
@@inthert8118 I was just drooling when I first saw TB3 in action, the rotating cockpit, the utility arms, and all while keeping to the original silhouette, not to mention the redesign of the launch sequences!
This was such a great video! I love the concept of this Imperial Nebulon-B. I remember playing X-Wing as a kid and was shocked in my youthful naivety to find out from the game that this was originally Imperial hull design. I did, however, find it odd that the Empire would use such an "incomplete" looking ship, so this vision of it originally decked out in more Imperial fashion looks amazing! I also really liked the design of your speculative Nebulon-A with the smaller forward section, just a really cool look, and the interpretive leap you made to explain the extensive vertical section of the forward hull on the B was a neat idea. Amazing work, you really put a ton of effort into this and all of these videos and it shows! Thank you for your amazing work; we fans really appreciate it.
Holy funions, this is my favorite model that I have seen you do so far!! Super dope man!! Not only do I find your imperial nebulon b to be aesthetically awesome, but I think your logic of the rebel nebulon b being a striped down vessel to be a sound theory.
I’ve always wondered what the purpose of those fins on the ventral aft side were for, in universe. (Out of universe, I’m sure it was added just to look cool). But this realization make it look like the solar panels on TIE fighters, which I can totally get behind and enjoy, and the rebels found them without the solar panels, but decided to leave the rigging on there just in case more were to be found
I've always hated those ships, as they literally look like junk just strung randomly together. Somehow you managed to make them look amazing---fantastic work.
They looked incredibly cool and added to the used-universe feel of the originals. The broken, assymeteic shape that suggested it was utilitarian and form-follows-function while it didn't need to be smooth or aerodynamic. Now it looks like Star Trek. And kids - technical interpretation of of anything Star War's never made sense, never will. It is designed to tell an emotional narrative, not a technical. Look too close and nothing makes sense. That's why all the design "developments" are complete bullshit. From the Fusion-Designed ships, over the Jedi uniforms, over the Mandalorian armor to the old-mans-face of baby Joda. There is no continuity it's just BS to trigger nostalgia. Leave it alone.
@@j.m.w.5064 i like the idea that they are rebel built ships- from the ground up that is why they are so bare bones. They are just a reactor core, life support suit, shields, bridge and weapons and not much else. Built to transport rebel fighters on the central spar and transport them to different parts of the galaxy. if the rebels built them that explains why we see them so much in rebel fleets.
I really really hope someone at ILM sees this. I always thought the Nebulon B looked stripped down and your design fits so perfectly it's stunning 10/10
I'd imagine that it would the same as the changes would be all hardware, but with the work EC Henry does who knows. It might be completely different (my personal hope).
Love this idea! I imagine EC would envision them to ne far more interesting than just a black & grey variant most people design them as. I reckon the rebels (lacking in funds/materials) would've struggled to manufacturer them the way the empire would've.
@@AdmiralBlackstar One possibility is an X-wing with a shorter, stubbier nose, since the X-wing's long nose section is supposed to be to hold advanced sensor systems, but the Empire would likely want an X-wing that was more focused as a pure attack ship, so drop the advanced sensors, going with a smaller, cheaper and more compact sensor package and shorten the nose, thus saving weight, or alternately, use the freed up space for additional weaponry like a pair of heavy cannons or warhead launchers.
@@weldonwin well, maybe not shorten the nose, but if the sensor package was reduced then it'd be able to hold a larger compliment of ordinance for its launchers, and perhaps allow for the addition of a concussion missile launcher above and beyond the pair of proton torpedo launchers it already has
As a SW fan this was a delight to see. Definitely calling this baby canonical, just imagine this design on the big screen! One can dream. The Force is strong with you dude. Great job!
This ship is my headcanon now. Just like the Y-Wing is an older stripped down version of what it was in its prime, this just works so well. Excellent work and as far as I'm concerned this is canon.
I'd definitely like to see some more obscure background ships revitalized! Also, I wonder what the ski speeders from Crait would've looked like when they were brand-new?
Kuat did nothing but profit from producing ships for the Empire. It's possible they wanted to focus on producing larger more expensive Star Destroyers to get more profit. Kuat didn't get oppressed by the Empire unlike Lothal or something.
Such good work being put into this! The rebel version being a stripped down decommissioned version of the armored and beefy imperial version is perfect, mirroring the Y-wing as it transitioned from sleek armored bomber to stripped down bomber/fighter with an obvious bare bones look. I love it!
I love this design so much, the story you made a imperial design language is in point. If I were an Imperial Moff I would order a hundred of these for system security and trade convoy escort duty.
Engineer: sir here is the finished product. Admiral: not enough dakka. Engineer: what sir. Admiral: I said your design lacks the minimum required firepower of imperial vessels. Engineer: oh I see that's what I thought you said.
Engineer: But it's an escort frigate. It is for missions where even the Gladiator class would be massive overkill and inefficient usage of resources. It already has more than enough firepower and starfighter to deal with most expected pirate forces and lone backwater rebellious worlds. Star Destroyers are for major opposition like those Mon Cal Cruisers from Dac.
This is gorgeous work! It rivals fractal sponge! Also, I really like the design similarities to the newly announced Starhawk class. I wonder if the specs from your "original" non-stripped Nebulon - B influenced the Starhawk design...?
What are the chances, Me and a friend was planning out a fan trilogy and we decided to have a large fleet battle with Neb B's on the imperial side and literally not 2 days ago decided to design an imperial version and the results was surprisingly close to your design. Great work 🤙
I don't know about a city, the ship is relatively small. But I do see the aesthetic similarity there. It could be that those are MonCala structures used to flesh out the salvaged hulls, and that the Nebulons proved to be a useful host to MonCala structures that couldn't realistically cut it in open space.
That is a DAMN good looking ship, i never liked the Nebulon B but looking at it as a stripped down version makes a good deal more sense. Your rendering breaths a new light into it, i just love the forward blade, it reminds me of one of my favorite EVE online hulls, the Maller which can be seen here. wiki.eveuniversity.org/Maller
@EC_Henry Yes, this is my 1 issue with this presentation, that it is established legends lore that the Empire did deploy many NebulonBs - granted, not until 15-20 years after the formation of the Galactic Empire. As such, it would make sense that even if they were not initially deployed, but become the standard once raiding increased and the shortcomings of the command-class and gozanti-class flotillas were past obvious to the point of embarrassment. In fact, the deployment of the NebulonB could be what forced the Rebellion to focus more on fleet actions, as raiding was becoming prohibitively costly in terms of pilots and fighters. In terms of the model itself... and its back story, its pretty much perfect. 9/10!
I have mixed feelings, we've seen several other smaller ships built by KDY that radically depart from the aesthetic of the Imperial navy. Funnily enough, what most people call the 'Imperial Aesthetic' is more a design style of the Blissex / Wessex family that designed the Imperial and Victory class in legends then something inherent in Kuati designs. While this design looks good, it seems almost too clean to me. I'd have gone more with a modular mission pod like is used by the Temple-class Heavy Freighter design for a hangar bay. That would give the ship some girth and bulk.
well if you look at the full legends name "EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate". The EF76 was introduced as a counter-insurgency ship after the Clone Wars. It largely phased out the Class-C frigate. The Nebulon-B was originally designed to defend Imperial convoys against raids by Rebel starfighters, as the Imperial Navy wasn't keen on the idea of relegating its expensive Imperial-class Star Destroyers to escort duty, and the CR90 corvettes were too weak and carried few, if any, TIE Fighters. and for it job of a escort it has a Fabritech ANs-9.5w wide range sensor system. that why there a lot of antennas on the left side of the ship
After seeing this, I would love to see your take on a fully intact Nebulon C, as the one shown in The Last Jedi looks quite battered (seeing that it doesn't have both of its left fins and its body looks like if it lacks a "bit" of the plating). vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/es.starwars/images/7/7f/Anodyne_Nebulon-C.png/revision/latest?cb=20171221210800

My personal headcanon for the original Nebulon-B is more along the lines of the Porsche Ferdinand. The Empire put out the call to Kuat "We need a heavy-weapons platform frigate." But Kuat, currently focusing on the creation of Imperial-class Star Destroyers decided to outsource the work to several other companies, putting up a competition, as you would. "Whoever makes the best one is the one we will fund." So, several other companies came up with designs. One of these companies was Mon-Calamari Shipyards. MCS knew that a Rebellion was already in the works and knew which side they wanted to be on when it all kicked off, so they used this as an opportunity to create their first Warship idea and have their enemies pay for it. The Nebulon B has a lot of Mon-Cala inspired design-choices. Very smooth front, bulbous griblies along the hull and a dedicated command-deck that jutted out of the main space-frame. However, the lead designer of it was someone MCS had poached from Gallofree Yards INC. The same guy that designed the popular GR-75 and he brought a number of Gallofree inspired choices with him as he came, such as the exposed heavy shielding units that run down the front of the ship. Kuat was not happy with the design, but every other entrant's designs had gone over budget too. They were originally going to go with one of the other designs, but the Empire demanded a large number of these ships quickly and brought the delivery date forward considerably (We have altered the deal, pray we do not alter it further) and Kuat started panicing. MCS, on the otherhand, was actually so confident in the design that they had already gone into full production and already had most of the order in production. With everyone else's designs still on the drawing-board, Kuat was forced to buy the MCS design. However, a lot of cut-backs happened in order to finish the design in time for the Empires delivery date. Specifically, because they were being built in 3 major sections (The front, the engines and the connecting pylon) So, they were forced to sacrifice a lot of the connective tissue between the 3 parts. Especially around the engines, hense why the Engines look like they were glued on with no real support, because that's pretty much what happened. The ship was good enough and the Empire got their order. Although they quickly fell out of favour with the Empire, as they did not fall inline with the Tarkin Doctrine. Eventually, they were sent back to Kuat who paid MCS to dispose of them. MCS of course pocketed the credits and gave the ships to the Rebellion, using the proceeds to fund more ships.

Pretty much. The Nebulon B design canonically hints at this being pretty close to what we would call an out off the dock Imperial Nebulon B.
Good idea
I wonder what the disgusting Nebulon-C looked liked originally?
Give this comment some more likes so Henry can do a video on what the New Republic Nebular C looked like.
In this non canon continuity I imagine the C was simply another amalgam of salvaged Nebulon hardware pressed into service. Possibly existing in it's on screen form during the rebellion era or being assembled from vintage hardware by the resistance in a similar fashion to what the rebels had done.
@Aspiring Marauder More like a wreck.
What about the Nebulon-B2?
I think it looks pretty cool. Why you gotta hate on the Nebulon C?
This has to be my favourite ship design so far, I absolutely love seeing these Imperial vessels in their glory, and genuinely wish they'd make an appearance in SW canon, because they are gorgeous.
Your designs always brigthen my day
Like the Y wing, this ship has seen better days.
Goddamit Lucasfilms, JUST HIRE THE DUDE ALREADY.
Plz don't.. plz keep your dirty money loving hands of these creative geniuses
No don't even bother, people in power will kill the creativity of true scfi fans
Don't put that juju on him man.
Lucasfilms? Is it not Disney now? Or am I wrong
He is very talented indeed and the model looks awesome!
he did get the TIE he designed in canon soooooo...
You have transformed a ship I was meh about to one that instantly garners my attention!
By the gods I love this rework of one of my favorite Star Wars vessels. Glorious! Between you and Fractal Sponge, I have much to add to my imaginings.
I love the inclusion of the re-enforced midsection looking like the structural fins of the CR-90 which are clearly there for the same reason.
Or the struts added to the imperial Arquitens and Gozanti!
Kota's Nebulon in Force Unleashed II had like a hundred A-wings and Y-wings as well as a whole damn railway connecting both ends
There's like no agreed-upon size for this thing
Which, considering they showed the Falcon attached to one of these things, would give a general estimate.
The Executor changes sizes in Star Wars with some regularity.
There is absolutely an agreed-upon size in Canon. That one Nebulon B in the force unleashed was a bizarre exception.
@@jackrutledgegoembel5896 Yeah, it was probably a Pillar of Autumn type situation where the ship was scaled up for gameplay purposes.
@@Exakter that's because it went to the gym regularly.
If Kevin Feige needs new ships for his Star Wars movie link him to this channel, outstanding work
I never truly like the rebel alliance nebulon-b but when you designed the Imperial nebulon-b I just fell in love and is now my personal favorite ship if I was in Star Wars I would actually own and to command one of these beautiful Starships
Wow, 80% of these images actually look like studio models. Amazing work on the textures and film grain.
Also: Something about this makes me really rewatch the Battlestar Galactica reboot. I am not sure whether it is the hangar, or the similarity shaped forward section.
The bit about an explosion in the hangar touching off a chain reaction in munitions storage also reminds me of S1E3
This is an amazing model. Well done. This should legitimately be canonized.
i got to admit this has to be one of my favorite fan design.
This is such a glorious redesign, it's a crime that it's not featured in more stories. I know I definitely want to somehow incorporate it in mine. x_x
I need this in Thrawns Revenge Mod for Empire at War!
agreed
Definitely
I think it looks cool. Except for the thing in the middle. I was so happy when I saw it get snapped in Rogue One
@@eternal5930 the ships rely on the shields to survive. most ships don't last long without shields regardless.
I love its "messy gun"-design but I know it's not everyone's taste.
This looks perfect. Like an unstripped y-wing.
I really really hope someone at ILM sees this. I always thought the Nebulon B looked stripped down and your design fits so perfectly it's stunning 10/10
This video is a masterpiece: story, design, presentation, everything is perfect and believable in universe. Simply outstanding!
What about an Imperial X-Wing? Weren't they initially intended for the Empire until the Incom designers defected to the Rebellion?
I'd imagine that it would the same as the changes would be all hardware, but with the work EC Henry does who knows. It might be completely different (my personal hope).
Love this idea! I imagine EC would envision them to ne far more interesting than just a black & grey variant most people design them as. I reckon the rebels (lacking in funds/materials) would've struggled to manufacturer them the way the empire would've.
Given how good they already are I can't see them being too different aside from a paint job
@@weldonwin well, maybe not shorten the nose, but if the sensor package was reduced then it'd be able to hold a larger compliment of ordinance for its launchers, and perhaps allow for the addition of a concussion missile launcher above and beyond the pair of proton torpedo launchers it already has
This is my favorite Star Wars video on UA-cam. The Nebulon B never made sense as it was, and this fan design fixes it.
This will make a fine addition to my headcannon.
Best one yet!!! Sound reasoning that fits within the cannon literally perfectly!!
That is by far the most beautiful version of the Nebulon-B frigate that I have ever seen I wish they would have made it look more like this
As a SW fan this was a delight to see. Definitely calling this baby canonical, just imagine this design on the big screen! One can dream. The Force is strong with you dude. Great job!
Lucasfilm should hire this man, his ships look amazing and fit in star wars
I love this alternate design. I will totally use this design in rpgs I run, and will gleefully point my player to this channel
I must this is absolutely beautiful job well done
This ship is my headcanon now. Just like the Y-Wing is an older stripped down version of what it was in its prime, this just works so well. Excellent work and as far as I'm concerned this is canon.
please do the turbulent-class star destroyer from legends and do you colaborate with ansel hsiao?
Ive always thought the Nebulon-B looked stripped down, and this is better than I possibly could have imagined. Great work!
After rewatching this a hundred times, I just realized it looks like a mini Eclipse-class lol
Amazing work btw!
I love your Star Wars designs. They feel so much like they fit in that Galaxy. Please keep doing them!
I'd definitely like to see some more obscure background ships revitalized!
Also, I wonder what the ski speeders from Crait would've looked like when they were brand-new?
I forgot what it looked like but there was a comic about the rebellion days on Crait. So look that up and you'd see the speeder there
In my opinion the first time a fan- made design looks amazingly great and has some Star Wars feeling to it. Great job!
3:32 When Alderaan blew up, THAT was a tragedy. Kuat engineering a flaw into a ship they built for the Empire is brilliant
This is your best model to date and that's an incredible achievement!
Engineer: sir here is the finished product.
Admiral: not enough dakka.
Engineer: what sir.
Admiral: I said your design lacks the minimum required firepower of imperial vessels.
Engineer: oh I see that's what I thought you said.
The Omnissiah demands more dakka.
Dakka dakka dakka!
*MOE DAKKA!!!*
Yes.
Henry, this is easily the best design history of the Nebulon-B Frigate I've ever seen or heard about. My hats off to you.!
This is gorgeous work! It rivals fractal sponge!
Also, I really like the design similarities to the newly announced Starhawk class. I wonder if the specs from your "original" non-stripped Nebulon - B influenced the Starhawk design...?
All of Henry's designs are incredible but this is probably my favorite and the one I keep coming back to, I really wish we could see this in canon
What are the chances, Me and a friend was planning out a fan trilogy and we decided to have a large fleet battle with Neb B's on the imperial side and literally not 2 days ago decided to design an imperial version and the results was surprisingly close to your design. Great work 🤙
If i had to suggest a ship to do next it would be the buckshot from solo it was only a concept for the main ship for the cloud riders.
@@minesolo1969 plz do share your design
@@DrTheRich not sure how i would go about that.
@@minesolo1969 upload a picture to imgur and share the link here. Or make a UA-cam video about it. Or make an ArtStation account :P
This is probably one of the coolest designs you have Ever made
I believe the front chunk of the rebel nebulon has part of a moncalimari city built into it
I don't know about a city, the ship is relatively small. But I do see the aesthetic similarity there.
It could be that those are MonCala structures used to flesh out the salvaged hulls, and that the Nebulons proved to be a useful host to MonCala structures that couldn't realistically cut it in open space.
Man this video is amazing! I always liked the ship and to see it all edged out to fit the imperial ship look was really cool. Keep it up man.
Very nice, ship looks so much better. The story and its design are really canon worthy, its fantastic .
in legends imperial nebulons escorted convoys and were very good a destroying snub fighters
This is probably my favorite from all your designed!
This reimagined design makes so much sense, pity its not official.
Brilliant backstory and rendering! If I go back to running any of my Star Wars role playing games, this would be a sure-fire inclusion!
love this design! if Armada added this, i might get into it.
can you make a cutaway showing the hangar from the outside?
Easily one of my favourite conversions you have done.
THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!!! I hope Lucas and Disney are listening!!
After seeing this, I would love to see your take on a fully intact Nebulon C, as the one shown in The Last Jedi looks quite battered (seeing that it doesn't have both of its left fins and its body looks like if it lacks a "bit" of the plating).

I think it's supposed to be like that. Like a modified Nebulon-B. Not an actual model of ship.
@@naisagathefirstdestronmand8559 They are called Nebulon C in the Wookiepedia. So it seems to be an evolution of the Nebulon B rather than a modified version of it.

Good job on the ship. I also liked the possible lore behind how the ship went from stock to what we see.
Wow, good job mate

This is exactly what I thought a Nebulan B imperial would be. Great Job!!!
This will be in my armies fleet since it’s awesome
Your designs are so good. Every single one should be cannon honestly.
This is now canon for me.
I love how you create a backstory to explain why the modifications were implemented.
Can you modernise (and reajust flaws) of The Old Republic era Capital ships and fighters ? Thank you for all of your amazing work !
That's not necessary for the Harrower. The Harrower class already has a perfect space frame.
Republic ships, not siths ships (y es, the harrower class are elegant and well designed.).
Your design of the Imperial Nebulon-B is amazing!
Now imagine this thing loaded with high end TIE fighters. I'm talking TIE Avengers, as the Defender would be a bit too big to fit.
The Nebulon B frigate is one of my favorite frigates in star wars. Your interpretation of an Imperial NBF is amazing!
Dave Filoni: I'll take that render, idea and lore and pay you nothing for it. Thanks
I’ve always liked the Nebulon-B and I LOVE your vision here!
Have you ever considered recording your 3d modelling process? I'm sure it would be pretty interesting to see.
