The build-up to that ending played by the actress is nothing but phenomenal. So again please don't insult her for you not liking the show or the character.
It basically is because the plot shifts so quickly. But the basis is a formerly overweight and bullied teenage girl wants to get into pageants to make herself feel like a winner. She goes down this rabbit hole of trying to get closer to people who then "betray" her which leads her to becoming the worst possible version of herself. It's truly non-sensical but in the best type of way.

that and the scene where bob and bob (the bobs?) kiss for the first time. i was actually really surprised at how beautiful and well done that scene was. like the entire show everyone's acting crazy and nothing makes sense or carries any emotional weight, and then out of nowhere they just do this super emotional scene that actually takes itself seriously...right before a death scene that somehow goes back to not doing either of those things. the cake scene was the same, actually (in the sense that it was emotional and took itself seriously)--so were a lot of the nonnie scenes.

I really liked the binging scene because as someone who’s bulimic, I can totally understand the feeling. binging is a form of self harm/self soothing/punishing yourself/coping mechanism and just down right compulsion and addiction. I guess those things all go hand in hand but the fact that it was so raw, silent and lingering made me so uncomfortable and sad. It was really something else. I also liked the way you could really hear the chewing and crying because that is a sad reality with binge eating. Some binges are exactly like that and it was very scary for me to see how I must look when I’m binging. To me, that was the most powerful scene throughout the entire series.

They show got people to watch it because of the controversy that it created when the first trailer got out, I don’t think it’ll go past season 2.
As people mentioned in the comments: good viewership numbers/subscription rate increase. Despite it being critically panned and widely criticized it has found an audience and has turned out to be a surprise hit for Netflix. Partially due to the negative attention it received (the Streisand Effect). This is not at all surprising since Netflix is and has always been first and foremost, a business. Everything comes second to profit. As long as it keeps the subscribers happy and attracts new ones, they couldn't care less of how much of a flaming garbage their shows are. But that doesn't mean that they don't try. Netflix does have some decent shows and movies. I saw the trailer and thought that it was just bad (and not in the so-bad-it's-good way) and haven't bothered to watch the show. The best thing people can do to terrible shows is to completely ignore them. Any buzz is just going to increase their popularity.
"Netflix" don't actually create anything, they just host it, and in some cases pay the bills. As an example, The Duffer Brothers created Stranger Things but they don't "work for" Netflix.

that and the scene where bob and bob (the bobs?) kiss for the first time. i was actually really surprised at how beautiful and well done that scene was. like the entire show everyone's acting crazy and nothing makes sense or carries any emotional weight, and then out of nowhere they just do this super emotional scene that actually takes itself seriously...right before a death scene that somehow goes back to not doing either of those things. the cake scene was the same, actually (in the sense that it was emotional and took itself seriously)--so were a lot of the nonnie scenes.

One of my favorite conspiracy theories is the Pixar theory which says that every Pixar movie is in one big out of order timeline that we have to reorder as movies come out. I really liked the binging scene because as someone who’s bulimic, I can totally understand the feeling. binging is a form of self harm/self soothing/punishing yourself/coping mechanism and just down right compulsion and addiction. I guess those things all go hand in hand but the fact that it was so raw, silent and lingering made me so uncomfortable and sad. It was really something else. I also liked the way you could really hear the chewing and crying because that is a sad reality with binge eating. Some binges are exactly like that and it was very scary for me to see how I must look when I’m binging. To me, that was the most powerful scene throughout the entire series.

As people mentioned in the comments: good viewership numbers/subscription rate increase. Despite it being critically panned and widely criticized it has found an audience and has turned out to be a surprise hit for Netflix. Partially due to the negative attention it received (the Streisand Effect).
This is not at all surprising since Netflix is and has always been first and foremost, a business. Everything comes second to profit. As long as it keeps the subscribers happy and attracts new ones, they couldn't care less of how much of a flaming garbage their shows are. But that doesn't mean that they don't try. Netflix does have some decent shows and movies.
I saw the trailer and thought that it was just bad (and not in the so-bad-it's-good way) and haven't bothered to watch the show. The best thing people can do to terrible shows is to completely ignore them. Any buzz is just going to increase their popularity.

I actually disagree! No hate to you or anything, but I thought the message was the exact opposite. As she says skinny isn’t magic, and the whole premise of the show is that even if your skinny doesn’t mean all of your problems will go away. That’s just my opinion so feel free to counter it if you want!
Her life gets so much worse when she gets skinnier. And the show makes it a point to actually say: you changed on the outside but not the inside.
Even so, not every show has to be inspiring or have a good message. Some times it's fun to watch people make bad choices and spiral.

I loved it, its like no other show ive watched, alot of people taught it was gonna be some kinda cliche show, but looord this show was far from cliche. It had twists and turns nobody saw even coming
