Worst Track Day Ever - Road Atlanta on MT-10

  • Just a complete waste of time and effort. No offense to N2 or the control riders, this was all about the group that signed up this time around... What a cluster...
    I have done several July 4th weekend track days at Road Atlanta over the years... With NESBA and now with N2. Normally you see an accident or two, and that's it. You get a lot of track time and its well worth dealing with the heat, etc...
    Not this time! haha.
    I don't know what it was, but there were crashed left on right, many on the first lap... Track was super hot so you know grip was good... Everyone I talked to was really frustrated with how things were going, including the N2 staff. It's like everyone thought they were at the Isle of Man, racing for a podium spot, but without the skill to pull it off. I go out to play a bit and have fun, and I don't want to crash so I tend to hold back a bit. Bike's aren't cheap, and surgery sucks...

    Great video. I was there on Sunday for my first track day and was incredibly disappointed. We never got 2 laps in without a red flag. Too many people letting their wrist exceed their skill set. I didn’t even get to learn the nature of the track. Second session a guy runs into turn one and is full bore way past the braking point, tries to turn and goes right off the track in front of my wife who is videoing. She gets to see a violent high side with air time for the rider and bike up close. Guy got carried off in the meat wagon. Don’t know the condition. But, I certainly lost her support in this venture. By third session 2 ambulances hauled off unconscious riders. Then she gave me the red flag.
    Anyway, great video and commentary.
    Thanks

      Yeah, it's a real shame, because it can really ruin the experience for people that are new to the sport. The guy that high sided, was that later in the day, an S1000RR?
      Ego gets people hurt, and it sucks that people have to learn that the hard way...

      Dude, the electronics argument really annoys me. The people that always seem to think that they don't need that stuff, that they want to be in control, are almost ALWAYS the people who need electronics the most. Rossi uses them, Josh Herrin uses them, every racer uses them... But some squid that thinks he is fast because he rips down the interstate on his bike, yeah, that guy is beyond the ability of electronic rider aids... lol

    I had a medium sized fly screen on my MT-10 which did take the wind off and gave the camera some wind protection. But I have had sessions like this where there are constant red flags. Novice and fast groups are usually the worse for this and I think it has also got worse since people started using tyre warmers on track-days - they try too hard before they (the rider!) is warmed up properly. I always ride to the track which keeps me from pushing too hard as I know I can't get home easily if I bin it! I don't know if I've missed any videos on accessories - but how did you find the foot pegs or have you fitted rear sets? That's the limiting factor on the track for the MT-10 - scaping foot pegs everywhere! But again it just means you have tons in reserve as the chassis has plenty left.

    Awesome video man. I've only ridden angry once before on a track day, and it was because I was seeing the same kind of nonsense. I pulled myself off early like you did on this day here.
    "Novice" isn't some type of knock on your character. Track days should be fun. We all want to go fast, and we all have egos--that's fine. But we all want to go home too. There's nobody to impress at a track day. They give out trophies on race days.
    I'm glad you made this video and hope it helps some people check their egos a bit and actually work on their riding. A dangerous novice level will not help this sport grow at all. Cheers.

    run an R1 rear wheel and sprocket (or just change the rear sprocket tooth count to what the R1 has) and it'll calm the lift down ideally for track ESP for Road ATL. I used to rail my FZ-10 and that got me faster laps at Road ATL as I would fight the wheelies less after T5 and T11 and it added like 5 or so MPH top speed around T9 full pinned. As for those red Flags... intermediate and Novice... it just be like that sometimes. Cheers! Good content!

    • @SquireSCA
      @SquireSCA  Рік тому +2

      Well, I love the gearing for the street so I am gonna leave it. The new MT-10 has the same electronics package as the R1, so it has slide and lift control so while it wheelies, it won't allow it to get too out of hand... But turn 10b, that uphill in second gear really has it working overtime... Not worried about higher top speed on the straight because anything over 140 on a naked bike, sucks... If I feel like I need more speed, the ZX14R hits 170mph with ease on that straight, and the wind protection is awesome...

    • @LondonSteveLee
      @LondonSteveLee Рік тому +1

      Yeah I took a tooth off the back of my MT-10 - it was enough to calm the bike down making 3rd gear usable full-throttle without it trying to flip - but if you like the excitement of wheelies all the time - then why not!

  • @langhamp8912
    @langhamp8912 4 місяці тому

    My first trackday was similar to this; there were 12 crashes and thus 12 red flags including one airlift. Since it was my first trackday I thought it was normal, but since then I've seen a lot of warm up crashes. I hypothesize it's because riders will remember how fast they were going in their last session, and then go too fast during the warm up lap.
    Because on my first trackday I could only get a sport touring front and a sport rear Battlax due to supply constraints, I ended up with an oddly unbalanced bike; that rear tire was slicker than snot on the warm up lap. I did go back and forth on tires before realizing that sport-touring tires were just fine at my pace but that their no warm-up requirement made them way safer.
