I did find with the Ezone 98 that I hit long at times and just wanted a bit more controlled power. So I tried the Yonex Percept 100 and I have to say I am loving it. It has a 16 x 19 string pattern so you get the spin needed, but I just find it all more controlled, easier to hit with and easier to hit angles and place serves etc. Its my first 100 inch racket so I was worried it was almost a step backwards, however I really cant see me ever going back to the Ezone 98 now. the new ezone 98 is nice in my opinion. I play for many years wit the blade 18x20 (v4, v5, v6, v7) but in 2021 made the switch to the yonex vcore 95, tested both de 2018 and the 2021... and keep the 2018, because its noticeable more flexible, the 2021 bigger beam and stiffens didn't like
I love the sound! I've once heard this opinion - "I prefer a higher static weight ( Around 350 to 360g) with a lower SW between 320 and 330 strung. I have always found this to be safer for the elbow and shoulder than using a lighter static weight with a high SW" But overall a tennis racquet is a very personal choice. I play with old Yonex RDiS 100 (600 head size and 350 g strung, 67 flex, SW about 323 g). I have never had elbow, shoulder or wrist problems, - the racquet is great and I am only a club lever player, my technique is far from perfect (did not learn tennis as a kid). I would stick with this frame, but it is from 2009 and the grommets became weak - so I am looking for a new racquet - preferably Yonex. I have heard - Vcore is the successor of the RDiS line, but not sure. I really enjoy your videos, you "bought" me with this one: do not try to imitate a prof. forehand backswing - we all have our specific and one and only style.
Awesome and thank you! It's tougher to teach a one hander, especially to little kids. They will be more successful quicker with a two-hander usually so thats what coaches choose.
Yes, I feel that as well. Really depends on what type of player you are. If I were to still compete I'd go with the 98. For teaching, it's nice to have a more forgiving racket with a larger sweet spot.
Hello Meike, First of all thanks for great content. I enjoy your videos and find it most helpful and informative. Keep up the good work: I am a well fit 59 yo 3.5 player who plays about 3 times a week. I am a one handed backhand player and it is easier for me to generate topspin with my backhand than my forehand but currently I am trying to use both flat hitting and topspin within my game toolbox. As I am 6'3 and 235 lbs, I can generate good power and definitely a baseline and net player player. My current racket is the PSRF97 and a 1988 Prince CTS Precision Oversize that I inherited from my deceased father and play with for sentiment reasons. Both racquets are quite heavy and I find that in this heat-waved summer, cause my arm to tire and inflict tennis elbow. I also have to admit that I am finding the PSRF97 to be more difficult for me to evolve with and while the Prince is heavier, the balance on that racquet make its feel much lighter. My 1rst question to you is that as a one handed backhand player, it was my understanding that it would be best to seek a head since of 95-98 as a general rule and wanted to know your thoughts on this since I saw you in this video use the Ezone 100. My 2nd question is that I have my eye on the Ezone 98 as well as the Wilson Blade 98 (16x19) and would welcome any comments on the Ezone for my level of play. I have those on demo order from TW. Again thanks for the great content and I wish you well. Raul Brooklyn, NY
Hi Raul, I think the head size really depends on personal preference and the ability to make clean contact which is obviously a bit tougher with smaller head sizes. The smaller sizes probably feel a little easier for plenty of people (as they do for me), but I do value the "forgiveness" of the bigger head sizes, hence the ezone 100 that I tested. But I was pleasantly surprised about the Ezone 98 and the Vcore Pro 97, both feel soft and "buttery" to me. I have demoed the Blade and it felt really, really stiff to me.
Hi Meike, I play with an EZone 98 tour and the EZone 100 both 2020 versions. Before your conclusion, I knew you’d prefer the 98 because I do too! 😅 though mine is a Tour. I think I’ll give this 2022 version EZone 98 a try! For arm comfort, you can try a hybrid of polyester & multi-filament strings. I’m so glad you made the switch! What string tension do you use? And how often do you restring your racquet? Please do a review on the new Yonex Vcore Pro and Vcore! Thanks 😊
As soon as I get my hands on them I will! I'm usually around 48-50 lbs bc I only teach and a loser string tension helps :-) These days I only restring when they pop so maybe every 2-3 months. :-) I'm definitely not as detailed with my strings as when I played!
Just the video I was looking for! Couldn’t decide between the 2 as I will be transitioning from a 100 Wilson Burn v4. I have played for 2 years and feel like the 98 will be great to increase my control as I have developed a good full swing technique to generate my own power. Thank you!!
Good choice! I really love that racket, it actually felt so good that I went out to hit with another coach a bunch of times just for the heck of it. And I never really do that anymore!
I also did a video on the Vcore Pro: ua-cam.com/video/WFdQ1aUe9Jk/v-deo.html Now I need to also do the Vcore and there are a few other options for beginners from Yonex. Thanks for the video suggestion. I'll get on it!
Thanks for this interesting Review! At the Moment I am using the Blade v9 98 16x19. But I think the racket is too demanding for me. So at the Moment I am searching for a more forgiving racket that also helps me with increasing top Spin and gives me more Speed. I thought about the EZone 100 or the VCore 100. I am playing since three years and am playing three times per week, I Play with a single handed backhand. What do you think? Thanks!
I used to play with Pure Drives. At some point it was too stiff for my arm. Someone suggested the ezone. I tried it but it was also hard on my arm, it was almost as stiff as the Pure Drive. That was the 100 by the way. Finally, I choose the vcore98
I tested the Pure Drive as well and loved the pop that I got but yes, I thought it was pretty stiff as well. Have you tried the Rexis Comfort strings from Yonex, they're really soft and help my arm a ton.
@@MeikeBabelTennis No, never tried these strings. I used the Solinco Hyper G, went to the Hyper G soft, then Hyper G soft 18 (those are nice but don’t last) and just recently went to the Yonex Poly Tour Rev. I like the Poly Tour Rev.

Hello Meike, First of all congratulate you on your wonderful video, it is very clarifying. I would like you to give me your advice for my son, a 14-year-old boy, 175cm tall, strong, aggressive and attacking, one-handed backhand and high level tennis, with a big spin both in drive and backhand. He is currently using a 285g PURE DRIVE TEAM, but we are now considering using a racket of approximately 300g. With the one-handed backhand we are looking for a very maneuverable racket, stable, with power but with control. We do not want a PURE DRIVE. Can you advise me if E-ZONE 98 or 100 would be better for him? Thank you very much
Would you agree/suggest that the 98 would be a better option coming from an nTour 95, or would the 100 generate more power while being forgiving on the arm? I’m on the fence between 98/100 … Amazing review and much appreciated!
Hey Meike, great content on your channel. Curious to know what strings you are settling on in your Ezone? Appreciate you are coaching with your focus so I am sure you are stringing not as tight as you would for match play but have you found any strings you think work best in the frame and what string would you use if you took the Ezone to a competition? Thanks in advance if you see this and get a chance to reply
I'd probably stay with the Yonex Rexis Comfort even if I played matches again. It's all about protecting my shoulder these days :-) And I;m stringing at 50 (don't tell anyone :-)
Yes, absolutely. Even though the racket head size is a little smaller its still very forgiving and you'll love it. I have several 3.0-4.0 players with the 98 and across the board, they're able to get controlled shots with good pop.
Great and useful video! I am going to test both of these next week. Coming from a heavy Wilson blx (339 gram) would that be to big of a step in terms of weight? If I play a lot of matches / tournaments the blx will hurt my arm sometimes.
You can always add a bit of lead tape to the frame to make it a bit heavier if you prefer that. A lighter racket will just feel very differently but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
What about testing the Yonex Vcore pro 100 and Wilson Pro staff six one 100 racquets? Would love to have your thoughts about those two. Thank you for great reviews.
thank you so much for your video! very informative. I started playing tennis a year ago, improver/lower intermediate level, and decided to invest in my first professional racket. I do mostly flat shots -although I am still learning. I am thinking either 100L or 98L (both are 285g) there is very little info online. Any chance you could do another video or would you mind replying here for any recommendations, please? For some reason, there is no single physical store that stores these rackets in London (or near London)!
If you;re newer to tennis I would go with the 100L, just because it has the bigger racket head. It's really not that much about the weight all other things being equal.
You can’t go wrong with either I have come back to tennis after a long break the 98 is excellent easy on the limbs great balance think I would choose that over the 100 I am coming from a pure drive 🤙
no mention of the power comparison. I would assume the 100 has more power but Im a senior not getting more powerful as I age so I watch the racquet weights along with the power they generate. I would lean towards the 98 at this point.
If you can try the new VCores 100/98/95 I'd be curious to know your thoughts on those. I use VCore 95 and absolutely love it. Yonex makes amazing sticks!
Thank you coach for this. I was on the lookout for a racket and I chose the 98 based on your review. I took the light L version. Great racket. I feel my serve is a bit better but I don't know why to be honest 😅.
That is great! Maybe it's because you can swing a bit faster bc it's a lighter racket. I've rarely been as excited about rackets as I have been about working with Yonex.

Ha, I'm just checking my footage and I shot that "scene" if you will 2-3 times and I put the wrong piece in the video and the correct one with the correct frame sits in my iMovie app. Great attention to detail! I do like the 98 better, when I'm then hitting a few seconds after the snafu that is for sure the 98!
@@MeikeBabelTennis ok, thanks, but you agree that 100 is more maneuver than 98, isn t it? you swing live 100 when you wonder how easy is to maneuver and how good is feeling....so something isn t right here. Sorry but it s very hazy.
I believe we string our demos in the middle of the recommend range (45-60 for the ezones) so probably 52, 53 lbs. I didn't string it myself. I have mine very low for teaching, I usually go down to 48 in the winter and maybe 50 in the summer. If I were to compete, I'd go up with the ezone to 56 probably.
I felt like I have a little bit more "touch" with the ezone although I really liked the vcore as well. In all honestly, I could probably teach as well with the vcore 98. Both great rackets!
Hi Meike, thank you for your videos. They are really helpful. I want to change my Wilson 285 grs. and I have been testing several rackets: Clash 100, Babolat Aero, and I wonder how the Yonex will be for my style-technique and strokes. I'm more of a baseline clay court player and tend to hit hard and a bit flat. My best stroke by far is the backhand (it looks a bit like Basilashvili's backhand) and I might need a different racket. Some instructors have suggested I try Yonex, but I don't want something super stiff and heavy. A 300-gram racquet may not be heavy for you, but coming from a 285-gram racquet, there is a difference. I thought the ezone 98 would be worse, but it looks like I was wrong. Between the ezone 100 and the 98, what would you recommend? Any other options? What about the DR98 or the vcore pro 97; too heavy? I want to protect my arms although I have quite a bit of strength in both of them. I appreciate your feedback.
Both the ezone 98 and the vcore 98 come in a light version, the ezone 98L and the vcore 98L, they're both 285g. I can't play with stiff rackets either and I feel both of those would be a good option for you. Also try them with the Yonex Rexis comfort strings, I use those and I feel they really protect my arm.
Meike, was ist denn mit dem vcore98 im Vergleich zum Ezone98? Viele sagen die sind sehr ähnlich… Ich brauche deine Expertise! Spiel auch einhändige Rückhand, brauche mehr Kontrolle im Schlag! LG
Did you okay with a one handed backhand on tour? Not many women do. Very nice. Do you have any experience with the Wilson Blade v8? I’m playing with the Pro Staff 97 but it’s too heavy for me now that I’m into my 50s. I’ve been considering an Ezone, they seem very comfortable.
They will all do well, just in their own time. They're incredible players and also great human beings that all bring different aspects to the Tour which is why I'm excited about them!
Great video. If i understood correctly, you think, despite the smaller head size and bigger weight, the 98 is more maneuverable ( easy to swing) then the 100?
Yes, exactly. Just note that I'm talking about minuscule difference and those are my impressions. Everyone experiences rackets a bit differently which is why I would recommend comparing these two to each other.
You and me both :-) I can't really serve anymore because of my shoulder so I stay away from it. But you're right, in a review that's probably a necessity!
I’ve been playing the previous gen Yonex Ezone 100 for the past two years and I’ve really enjoyed it. However I like to generate my own power and play with quite a bit of top spin but my current racquet offers quite a lot of free power as it is already, causing some shots to go deeper than expected. Would you recommend me trying the new Ezone 98 for more control?
Thanks for sharing! And yes, I think the 98 is worth a try. I felt it did give me a bit more spin because it swings so freely. Also, you can always tinker a bit with the racket tension, go up a pound or so to get a bit more control but not sacrifice too much much pop.
Hey Meike thanks for great review. I am serious beginner 40 years old and not that atlethic male. I am between radical mp and this new ezone 98 or 100 . Which you can recommmend me to get . Thanks for your reply
Actually, I felt that the 98 is livelier which for me means, I can swing faster and I can maneuver it quickly. I noticed that I actually hit over my backhand returns more as opposed to just chipping them back. So I think the 98 is a great option for a one hander.
@@jillwaters7482 I know it's hard to let go of a racket you love. On the other hand, technology has changed dramatically in 25 years so it might help a lot.
Hi Meike, I’ve been using Yonex RQS 11 (100”, 280g, balance 330mm) for 12+ inconsistent yrs w/ eastern FH grip. Getting back into tennis, but this time, switching to semi western to increase top spin. Should I go for the 98 or 100, light (L) or super light (SL)? I idolize Martina Hingis and try to emulate her swings, she uses the 100 SL.
You'll have to be able to make contact a bit further in front with semi western grip otherwise you're having a too closed racketface. So a lighter racket will probably help with adjusting to the new contact point bc you can swing faster. If you start with the SL you can always add lead to the frame to make it heavier.
I am a senior tennis player, playing mostly social doubles. I want to transition from using players rackets { like Prince phantom pro 100p and Babolat pure control 95} to oversize 105 rackets. I am interested on what you think about Ezone 105 Thanks

In your opinion, if you had to choose one YONEX racquet to go to battle with for DOUBLES only, which would you choose? Would that change if you were 65 years old? I would be grateful for your thoughts.
Come from RF97 but it became at least to heavy for me but always liked the ProStaff feel. Now I am looking for an replacement and tested a lot and ended with Vcore 98. But got arm issues and now testing Blade 98 V7 but hasn´t much feel. . Wondering if Ezone98 and/or Vcore 97 Pro 310 might also be an option? ( long time ago used Steffi`s Pro Staff version but seems there is no similar version today)
Absolutley, the ezone 98 or the 100 should be good options. Try them with the Rexis comfort strings from Yonex, they're soft and I like them for my arm. I haven't tested the Vcore series yet so I don't want to give an opinion on them yet. And yes, Steffi's Pro Staff was pretty much custom made for her to resemble the old Dunlop she first played with.
What's the biggest difference between the 2020 Ezone 98 and the new Ezone 98s? I'm currently using the 2020 Ezone 98 with 2 grams of lead on 10 and 2. Thanks
@@williamyeh6925 it’s good. I think it’s pretty plush especially if you pair it with a soft string. Only time I had problems was playing outside in cold weather with a stiff string while trying to hit a one handed backhand.
Ive only played with the latest version, the 2022 and my arm is great. I'm very careful when it comes to choosing a racket because I've had so many arm issues. A lot of times, pain can develop when there are technical issues though.
@@MeikeBabelTennis Yes it seems that way. No worries I will survive :) Are you still playing with this racket. And what are you thoughts now after a year? Any insights? Using another string now maybe? Thanks Meike.
Potentially in the beginning but see if you can add more topspin and you'll get a really heavy ball that's gonna be difficult to deal with for your opponents!
I stuck with Vcore because of the beam construction, hard to get used to the thicker and tapering beam of the Ezone, for me, but am still open to it because there’s nothing like a clean shot with an Ezone, strange.
i got a head racket for like 40bucks from walmart, i have played 4months with it, should i change the strings on it? or should i get a better racket and then put some good strings on it?
Probably go with the 100, it just gives you that extra little more area on the sweet spot and should help with making contact a bit more cleaner. I didn't feel a whole lot of difference if any in terms of comfort, however, I was definitely able to get more racket head speed with the 98 but that is not something that you need as a newer player.

Absolutely love your style!! I wish more women would play with a 1 handed backhand. I really love Yonex, too. I use the vcore 95. I just subscribed!!
Awesome and thank you! It's tougher to teach a one hander, especially to little kids. They will be more successful quicker with a two-hander usually so thats what coaches choose.
Hi,
I go for 98 because it in my opinion swings with less resistance through the air and is faster and more precise than the 100 one.
Cheers
Yes, I feel that as well. Really depends on what type of player you are. If I were to still compete I'd go with the 98. For teaching, it's nice to have a more forgiving racket with a larger sweet spot.
Hello Meike,
First of all thanks for great content. I enjoy your videos and find it most helpful and informative. Keep up the good work:
I am a well fit 59 yo 3.5 player who plays about 3 times a week.
Raul
Brooklyn, NY
Hi Raul, I think the head size really depends on personal preference and the ability to make clean contact which is obviously a bit tougher with smaller head sizes. The smaller sizes probably feel a little easier for plenty of people (as they do for me), but I do value the "forgiveness" of the bigger head sizes, hence the ezone 100 that I tested.
But I was pleasantly surprised about the Ezone 98 and the Vcore Pro 97, both feel soft and "buttery" to me. I have demoed the Blade and it felt really, really stiff to me.
@@MeikeBabelTennis Thank you for thoughts. Have a good one,
both great sticks!!
Nice review. Better to use multi though as you’re on court more than most people are 😁. Happy holidays coach ❤️🎾
Anything to save my arm :-)
Do a Yonex line comparison thank you! And beginner recomendations.
I also did a video on the Vcore Pro: ua-cam.com/video/WFdQ1aUe9Jk/v-deo.html Now I need to also do the Vcore and there are a few other options for beginners from Yonex. Thanks for the video suggestion. I'll get on it!
Nice review video. Wondering if you can do review on vcore 95 vs ezone 98. Thanks
That's a great idea! Will do!
Great review, like string sound and want to know the string
It's the Yonex Rexis Comfort
@@MeikeBabelTennis thanks
@@MeikeBabelTennis
No, never tried these strings.
I used the Solinco Hyper G, went to the Hyper G soft, then Hyper G soft 18 (those are nice but don’t last) and just recently went to the Yonex Poly Tour Rev. I like the Poly Tour Rev.
@@MeikeBabelTennis as for the racquets, the vcore 98 are very nice.
Hey 👋 I’ve just tested the 100 and bought it, 25kg string tension. Really enjoy playing with it. Kisses from South of France. Thank you for your review 👏👏👏
Hello Meike,
First of all congratulate you on your wonderful video, it is very clarifying.
Great review! Do you reccommend the 98 for an intermediate player?
Try the hybrid setup: poly main and synthetic or gut cross. 50lb for the 98in feels better than full gut to me
I'll give it a go
What about testing the Yonex Vcore pro 100 and Wilson Pro staff six one 100 racquets? Would love to have your thoughts about those two. Thank you for great reviews.
Great suggestion! I'll have to check if we have the vcore in our pro shop! I know we got the pro staff!
thank you so much for your video! very informative.
I have tennis elbow... should I use the 98 or the 100?
Either one is a great racket. Also check you grip size and your strings. Best though is to see a trainer and get that taken care off first,
no mention of the power comparison.
That is definitely on the list for sure. I love their rackets.
I'm a vcore fanboy. I used to have an ezone 100 but tried the vcore and never looked back.
@@yo_eddie2576 Yes, super close for me between those two as well.
Which racket is better for a two handed backhand? I have the 98 currently. Am wondering if I should also get the 100.
Hello Meike!
When you talk about ezone 100 you played with 98 and vice versa! When you swing the ezone 100 at 5:17 min you tell us that is the 98 :). See 5:28 min. Please clarify, what is your favourite between 98 and 100? Thanks!
Great video! What tensions did you have them at?
I believe we string our demos in the middle of the recommend range (45-60 for the ezones) so probably 52, 53 lbs. I didn't string it myself. I have mine very low for teaching, I usually go down to 48 in the winter and maybe 50 in the summer. If I were to compete, I'd go up with the ezone to 56 probably.
Hi Meike, seems like you had your pick of all the yonexes. Why the ezone instead of the vcore series for you? Thanks!
I felt like I have a little bit more "touch" with the ezone although I really liked the vcore as well. In all honestly, I could probably teach as well with the vcore 98. Both great rackets!
@@MeikeBabelTennis thanks for the input!
LG
Did you try the 98 Tour or 98 Extended? If yes, any thoughts you could share?
I haven’t
Compare the swing weight in the specs. Believe 100 is more
‘Like closing the door on a Mercedes’
Good demo. I wish you would have tried serving
You and me both :-) I can't really serve anymore because of my shoulder so I stay away from it. But you're right, in a review that's probably a necessity!
@@MeikeBabelTennis What happened to your shoulder :( ?
Hi can u please review the babolat pure drive 2021 please thank u good video 😁🎾
I have to check with Yonex if I can still review competitors
Hey Meike thanks for great review. I am serious beginner 40 years old and not that atlethic male. I am between radical mp and this new ezone 98 or 100 . Which you can recommmend me to get . Thanks for your reply
I'd then start with the Ezone 100. Just a little bigger headsize and not quite as "lively" as the 98.
Meike, Is there much of a difference between the Ezone 98 and the Ezone 100? Is either one better for the one-hander?
Actually, I felt that the 98 is livelier which for me means, I can swing faster and I can maneuver it quickly. I noticed that I actually hit over my backhand returns more as opposed to just chipping them back. So I think the 98 is a great option for a one hander.
Will you add any lead tape?
Also, are these the 2022 racquets?
Yes, these are the 2022 rackets, you can pre-order them now and they will launch on January 15. I probably won't add lead since I'm only teaching.

Have you tried the yonex vcore 98?
Not yet, we jut got it at our pro shop but I haven't gotten to it yet. I'lll fure sure try it.

As a beginner would you advise on the 98 or 100?
Probably go with the 100, it just gives you that extra little more area on the sweet spot and should help with making contact a bit more cleaner. I didn't feel a whole lot of difference if any in terms of comfort, however, I was definitely able to get more racket head speed with the 98 but that is not something that you need as a newer player.
