THANK YOU SO MUCH BRO. I've been trying to learn how to do this for centuries now and you were the only one who explained this. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH
You’re welcome bro! 👊
Awesome. This was a main question in regards to recording my next album, guitar-wise. Love having the 2 main tracks and just bringing them down. Super simple. Thank you
You’re welcome! Let us know when the album is done so we can check it out!
Bro danke vielmals.

I only revcently learnt you could use plugins on inputs, and how this can save you CPU later. This video was exactly what i needed, thank you!
That was a really great video! Thanks that was on point, easy to follow and super practical !
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Brilliant tip 👏🏻👏🏻🤟🏻
great vid and super hints regarding how to organize the guitars. thnks
Thank you!
thank u bro!!!))) your lesson is my first step in to the music world. Thanks so much!!! good luck to you
Glad I could help! Make sure to subscribe for future content like this 👍
I'm going to have to save this one and watch again. Very useful. Thanks.
Thanks very much!
@@deliriumsdawn I've tried using a boss multifx to record effected and dry audio but you can only do one at a time and it's locked at 44.1KHz. It's just going to be easier to use an audio interface and do everything in the box. Or use the multifx with an interface. Such a waste of a usb feature though.....
Muchas gracias, realmente necesitaba un tutorial fácil!
You’re welcome! 🤘
Very-very nicely explained!Chapeau!. Well done!!I subscribed to your channel for the simple reason that 1.) You explain excellent.2. You have an excellent diction!Thank you.I am a 75 years old music freak!-:)
Awesome! Thank you very much. 😀
@@deliriumsdawn No thanks !This is the simple truth! -:)Kind regards from Amsterdam!
Thank you. Great tutorial
You’re welcome 👍
Very useful, thank You!
You’re welcome!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!
You‘re absolutely welcome!
This was really helpful. I have been using cubase for around 13 years. Never did that. Live and learn I guess. Thanks for this man.
Sure man! Glad to share and help! 🤘😁
@@deliriumsdawn what alarmed me the most was the thing you mentioned about CPU usage. I do extreme layering with my clean guitars, quite usually, so I tend to use a lot of vsts in my compositions. I will definitely give what you demonstrated a shot. Thanks again really.
You’re welcome!
Same! Live and learn
awesome man, thank you so much
You’re welcome! 🤘
Really great tutorial. Im using Cubase 11 pro, everything worked as expected. I will be including it in my templates. Also cute creating an internal bus to route music and as a result save cpu and resources. So nicely explained and worked a treat. Well done!!
Thanks very much!
Hey everyone! Good News. I figured Out how the Routing works in cubase pro. It is a bit tricky. 1. Create the Output bus as described in this very helpful Video. 2. Press F3 and the mixing console will Open in a seperate Window. 3. Make Sure that the "Routing" Funktion is aktivated in the Menu at right top of the Window. 4. Then Go to the Channel where you want to Set the Bus as Input Bus. Chosse it and it works 👍🏻 Most helpful Video in UA-cam
👍
hey brother, on cubase LE, i can set the output on DI as internal, but I don't see the Internal bus on the input options for recording track, any ideas what could be wrong?
@@minior9020
I've got same question.......
Me too, as minior9020. Guessing it's a feature not in light version?
very helpful. I record with Cubase and want to start with archetype
Sounds like an awesome combo
was ultra helpful
Awesome! Glad I could help.
Thank you for using Cuebase and explaining how I think to best record guitar. Template time.
You’re welcome sir!
gOOD METHOD THX!
Good way to simulate DI tracks!
I know I'm a bit late to the party but I just stumbled across this video. I always wondered what use would it be to record a DI Track if you're using Amp Sims, since... If I just remove the insert Plugin with one click I have my DI Track again - so why bother?
But the Workflow you show in this video is really intelligent and useful and I actually had to laugh out loud because I felt so stupid for not thinking about it earlier... Of course you save CPU if you just have one track for the Amp and effects and stuff and then just pull the events down to other audio tracks.
Great Video! 🙂👌
And man.... I have to admit I admire your playing, it's tight as hell 🤘
That’s awesome. Thanks and I’m glad I could help.
Super helpful bro...best wishes from India😊
Thanks!
high value content here 🤟
Thanks!
Thank you so much, Eric, never thought this recording way! 🙏🏻👍🏻
Sure man!
@@deliriumsdawn One question, if possible: how do you set input recording level for the clean track? According to @Dom Sigalas I try to stay between -18 and -12dB peak levels. Thanks!
@@ArtForMusic I set the gain on the interface. With the Focusrite it’s gain at zero, switch turned to instrument. However, I do not know what volume that results in.
@@deliriumsdawn Ok, thank you . I don't want to bother you, just curiosity to see how another guitarist work, but this sounds strange to me: don't you really check the final recording level to avoid clipping? 🤔
For DI I really don’t. I can see on my interface wether I clip or not, which I never do.

very helpful
Got it, always record 2 guitar tracks (1 DI and 1 Amped)
Thanks!
It’s not a must. But it gives you the freedom to change your sound if you need to. Even if it’s years later when you found an amazing tone ;)
@@deliriumsdawn Safe play
nice method! or you can just render in place the DI recording, I got a macro to render/disable original track/hide original track, with only 1 click to keep a clean view, in any case I can go back to original track, tweek it and render again, no need to record the "Record" track again.
Wow, nice!
Whats upfrom Nashville, TN bro! Im guessing from your accent you're from Brazil!!! awespme. I just now listened to your Horizons on Spotify. How are you recording your clean vocals? what is you r vocal chain and howmany vocal racks do you use? It sounds awesome. I have a death metal/ spedmetal background, Im a drummer, but I'm writing my own stuff these days and releasing material under my name Louie Ruiz, its more pop rock that I'm writing. Anyway, I would love to know more about your recording vocals...my vocals suck haha. UYour band sounds great by the way.
Thanks man! We‘re actually from Munich / Germany. There is a documentary on our channel in how we recorded „Horizons“. The vocals on Horizons are recorded with a Rode NT1A into a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd gen into Cubase. The vocals (both shouts and cleans) are double tracked, the second track is much quieter (-8dB) though.
@@deliriumsdawn than you! Ah…Deutschland! Nice. I lover Germany!!
Thank you for your response, that was very helpful. I’ll check out your documentary.
Interesting tutorial. Thank you! May I ask what VST you're using for the bass?
Thanks! For the bass VST I‘m using Loki Bass 2 by Solemn Tones. 👍
Is there any chance you could do a video using the Cubase amp sims? That would be great since that's what I use. I'm running Cubase 11 Pro. Thanks for this!
I could try. Although I use 8.5 Pro. Still I have the the amp vst plugin. What sound are you interested in? Since we’re a metal band, we mostly use high gain sounds.
epic info! do you have any videos or recording templates that you use ?
Actually, not really. I basically dial everything in with every new project.
Hey very nice guitar sound. Im pretty new to recording and stuff. I have three questions :D
1. Did you record two Guitars to simulate a real life scenario (recording two guitarists for example )
or to produce a "bigger" sound ?
2. Also if or when it comes to produce a "bigger" sound, i wonder if 4 channels would be even better (L,R,CL,CR)
3. If so, in terms of quality, should i record all 4 channels each time or can i just record once and duplicate the recording to all channels ?
I recorded two guitars (left and right)
You can quad track but might end up with a washy sound.
You can not simply duplicate already recorded tracks to pan them left and right. You will end up having a louder centered sound. You will not have the effect of a bigger sound. So, always record individual tracks.
@@deliriumsdawn I see. Thank you
@@deliriumsdawn You will not have the effect of a bigger sound. So, always record individual tracks.Yessssssss!!
How do I find the Bias FX preset you used for this video on ToneCloud? I have Biax FX 2 and not sure what to search for. Thanks.
Thanks for your question. On BIAS FX 2 the preset is called „Dawn Of Rhythm“. It might sound slightly different due to the different BIAS FX version. 🤘
Hey great video by the way. I just wanna ask if this DI tracks can stable the signal? And it is reduce hiss sound from the guitar? Very appreciate if you reply to this. Thank you !
Well, how the DI sounds depends on your interface / preamp.
@@deliriumsdawn Thank you bro!
Hey. I had a rookie question.
Currently what I do is i create 2 audio channels called di and route them to their own fx channels and the fx channel directly records my guitars processed versions.
Is this this the wrong way to do it?
Hi,
this is a great way to do it! It is the same basic idea. As you can see there are several different ways to do this.
Nice trick!! How do i do this with studio one 5 , that would save me much time
Thanks! I absolutely have no idea how to do this in studio one. Sorry man!
I cant choose Internal for input on the Recording track. Any help?
What version of Cubase do you use?
What happens if I start cutting the audio? Can I record stereo track to make it more simple if I plan cutting?
What do mean by cutting? You can edit the audio as you like mono or stereo.
Nice tutorial! But I wonder why record through INTERNAL BUS instead of recording directly DI -> RECORDING?
From what I know. You can’t simply choose any other channel / track as an output bus. The internal bus is a work around.
@@deliriumsdawn ok. i have also Cakewalk and I can choose record directly to Aux Bus. It an audio track in basic.
Hi, thanks for the great video Do you know that if can do on cubase artist?
Hi, I’m afraid it won’t work in the artist version. That’s why I upgraded to pro.
@@deliriumsdawn Thanks!! i have swap my elemetns to studio one artist now I m happy😎😎
Hey :)
Thank you for doin this :)
Do you start up creating a new audio project ? in Cubase ?
You’re welcome.
What do you mean exactly by creating a new audio project?
Well in your tutorial you allready have bass and drum in two tracks :)
So i what did you do before you had those two tracks there ? :) did you just import them into a empty Cubase Project ??
Thanks again :)
Danke viel malls
I see! Well, I created a new project using a template where GGD and Loki bass were already loaded. I quickly dialed in the drums and bass according to the riff a had in mind, then started the video.
Thank you :)@@deliriumsdawn
Thank's again :)
I want to play guitar to a backing track in cubase and use Amplitupe as my guitar amp sim inside Ccubase just like you.
I downloaded Cubase 12 manuel it is allmost 900 pages :D
@@deliriumsdawn
Great video!! I do have an isssue with the "recording" track though... can´t choose the internal bus as an input. No problem setting it as output on the "di" track.. any idea as to what i´m doing wrong?
nevermind!!.. i´m on Cubase 12 artist, and see what the issue is now 😞
Yeah, I was gonna ask. Still thanks very much for your comment. 🤘
@@helvede666 Is it because the Cubase version? I'm on Cubase Elements. Does that mean I won't be able to rout it either?
So I followed your tips, but no matter what I do I can still hear my clean DI guitar whenever I have the monitor button enabled. I can't mute it without muting the whole track. Any idea what my problem could be?
Open the vst connection window with F4. Is the „internal“ bus connected to a output / loudspeaker?
Awesome video! Seems like a fantastic method for saving CPU whilst being very flexible with sound later on! I have tried this on Cubase 11 Elements and it did not work for me though. It wouldn't let me select the newly created Bus as an Input option. Can someone confirm if this sort of routing is exclusive to Cubase 11 pro?
Hey thanks! I can absolutely confirm this issue since I had the same problem when I used the artist version of cubase 8. The idea to do this and having the option of virtual routing was the reason I bought the pro version in the first place. I am pretty sure it’ll work with 11 pro.
@@deliriumsdawn thanks for confirming! One more question, if you don't mind, just so I'm 100% sure i got it right (Cubase pro is kinda expensive): the sound on the "recording" track is fixed, right? If i disable the amp simulator, the sound will still not change, if i got it correct. I'm asking because I'm looking for a way to transfer my whole arrangements (just demos, so not that large files) to a friend. He does have cubase, he does not own the same plugins (Neural DSP in this case) as me, so if i only send my DI he will just be able to listen to the raw signal. Keep it up, thanks again for this awesome video!
Yes, the sound on the recording track is fixed. At least it is processed through the amp track. Therefore disabling the amp sim will not effect the already recorded sound. That means yes, if you wanna send your friend amped sounds, you can. And you can also only send him the DI if he wants to amp the signal.
@@deliriumsdawn thank you! :)
Were you able to fix the issue? I'm working in Cubase 12 elements and can't use the created BUS as an input :(
Here's hoping that you get to read this message: I don't have the option to chose the Internal BUSS in the "Recording" track. I've followed step by step but it's not an option in my input menu. Any ideas why this might be? Thanks again for the informative video!
Hi,
you probably don’t have Cubase Pro?
@@deliriumsdawn I don't and I see now that's the issue. Getting Pro for that one function seems a little bit much tho. Thanks for the reply.
How do i do that in cubase 12? Until the part of the creation of the internal bus it works fine, but i dont know how to route from the "DI" to the "Recording"
Is it Cubase 12 Pro? If not, that’s the problem.
@@deliriumsdawn Oh sorry, its not the cubase 12 pro, so i cant do that in cubase 12 le?
Trying to do this trick in cubase 12 element and I cant set internal as input in recording track
Yeah, it only works on pro.
Thanks for opening things with your keyboard so I don't know how to.
You're making a tutorial for a DAW that looks nothing like the established ones. I'm only here because I need help.
Sure, you’ll need some basic knowledge of Cubase Pro. But maybe I can help you. If I’m not mistaken the only window I open with a short key is the routing window pressing F4. If there’s anything more I can help you with, don’t hesitate to tell me.
Cheers mate!
hey, dont understand what the DI track is for? what is the diff between DI and Recording track? and why do we need a separate DI and Recording tracks if we can just change the ampsim in DI track directly? sorry im just learning and not sure.
Hi,
thanks for your question. First of all…this is just an option in how you could record your tracks. Therefore you don’t need a separate DI track or anything from this video.
The difference between the DI track and the Recording track is that the wave form on the Recording track is irreversibly processed by the Amp Sim. The wave form on the DI track is the original DI wave.
I would always keep a DI track in case you wanna change your sound later, which you can do by using a different amp sim setting, or a total different amp sim, or by routing your DI to a real amp / mic setting.
I hope I could help.
@@deliriumsdawn Hi, thanks so much for a reply! just to clarify: why doesn't the waveform of the DI track where you applied the ampsim have the processed sound? is DI only recording basically clean guitar? if so, why do we apply the ampsim on the DI track and not the recording track? Thanks and great video!
Thinks of it as a signal chain:
DI track into amp sim (needs to be on the same track). Processed signal (output) going into the recording track (input) and being recorded in processed form.
Only of course if you set the routing options as I did.
If you turn off the amp sim on the DI track you’ll hear a clean sound.
@@deliriumsdawn ahh i get it! thank u so much! really helpful :)
I tried to emulate your method because it seemed so elegant . I'm using Cubase 11 Pro and I don't find that I have an option to use the Internal output bus (set up as you demonstrated) as an input to the recording track. Has something changed in Cubase or am I missing something?
Hey, that‘s a very good question! Since I’m using Cubase Pro 8.5 I’m not quite sure if anything has changed. I remember that I had to upgrade from Cubase Artist to Pro to have this sort of routing option.
And you did try to create the output bus? The one that I then named Internal? That’s the crucial part for this method.
@@deliriumsdawn I did create it but it wasn't showing as an available input, I removed it and set it up again as far as I can tell exactly the same as I did the first time. This time it was listed as an available input for the recording track. Really not sure what happened there but I'm glad that it now works. Such a good solution because I had always previously been using a separate Bias FX insert for each guitar track.
@@wizmacnz awesome! Yeah it really is a nice solution for digital sound processing!
Glad I could share it! 👍
@@wizmacnz I am facing the same issue. I am using Cubase 11 pro and facing same issue. Can you help me to resolve it?
@@deliriumsdawn Yes I'm facing the same issue please help me
Hi Found your video very interesting and would love to give it a try but can I ask you a question? How do you get your plugins to show up in the insert menu. I have Guitar Rig 6 that I am trying to use with Cubase 10. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks Tony
Thanks for your question. If it’s a VST plugin, which I suppose it is, you have to make sure to install it into your VST folder (normally in the Steinberg / Cubase folder). It should then appear the next you start Cubase.
@@deliriumsdawn Many thanks for taking time out to answer my questions, all's good and GR6 is up and running. Thanks again..Tony
May I know the difference between Guitar DI Waveform to Recording Audio waveform?
I‘m not sure I understand the question. Here, I’m recording the DI on one track and the processed signal on the other track.
@@deliriumsdawn I confused the Processed signal is different from Guitar DI waveform the processed signal is thick waveform than DI
Yes, that’s the whole point of the video. It’s thicker because it’s processed by the amp sim.
Your video is tilting me towards trying out Cubase instead of Cakewalk by Bandlab that is free. Quick question. Does your electric guitar recording method apply for acoustic guitar?
Sure it does. Since I’ve been getting the same question. You will need the Pro version of Cubase. Otherwise - with other versions - you won’t be able to use the virtual output (internal) as an input bus on your recording track.
whats the internal. i have no bus , and stereo out left and right so whats internal
Rewatch the video. Internal is what I named the output bus I created. You can name it however you like 👍
Why have the DI and recording as separate tracks? Record the di to a track with an instance of bias on it and then just render to an audio track and copy the di to a new track and repeat.
Absolutely! But during recording this method is a little bit faster.
But sure, when I’m done recording I will use the render option, especially when I dial in a different tone!
Maybe I should do an updated version of this video.
Cheers!
@@deliriumsdawn Gotcha. My simpleton mind would probably record onto a track with bias, render the track, then deactivate the original track and archive it into a folder track. But there are plenty of ways to skin a cat.
Despite having seen the whole video and read all the comments, I still don't understand why do all this when you can just put BiasFX on the DI track.
Yes, you could. But when you run a big project with more than only 2 guitar tracks. Let’s say 16 tracks for guitar including FX layers and so on, running BIAS FX on each track will probably be heavy on your CPU.
@@deliriumsdawn got it, thanks
I can't get the Internal to be the input for Recording. Any help?
What version are you using?
I'm running Cubase LE AI Elements v12.0.60
Yeah, unfortunately this routing feature only works in Pro.
How to ableton live
I really do not know.
I don’t use Ableton Live very often - so take it as it is - but I think you can set the recording track input as ‘resample’ or, better, from the DI track
litterly cant make output bus an input bus this makes no sense
Hi, what version of Cubase are you using? It‘s only available on the pro version.
@deliriumsdawn same problem here. Not showing output bus in input routing. I am using Cubase LE 8.
"Go into the routing and connections centre here"....... clicks on MIDI tab. Useless
Thanks for your comment. Yes, you’re right, it looks like I’m clicking on the MIDI tab there, but I‘m not. I was pressing F4 at the same time which opens up the window. Sorry for the confusion. Cheers.
