10 years ago my best friend and I were 14 years old sitting in his basement. We had beers and energy drinks, played video games and listened to Metallica very loud. His mother always brought delicious food. We never had to play outside. It was a dream for teenagers.
I remember when this album came out. My buddies and I were sitting around cranking this shit up getting drunk or stoned and jamming on our guitars to it. Man, the 90s were a nuts time. I wish you could have been there with us, Alex.
Dude!!!!! Alex!!! you're so lucky, because Metallica is still great today. They truly are a testament to their craft, hard work, care for their fans. See them ASAP. You will not regret it.
This was the song that when ''I was learning to play it'' my mom moved me out of the house and turned our garage into my room and that's when I started a band. SAD BUT TRUE!!!
This reminds me of the summer of 1992. I was a high school senior having 2 a days practice for football, I'm also a huge hip-hop head. That entire summer I was listening only to X-Clan's Xodus and Gangstarr's Daily Operation. Then one day on our way to a football scrimmage, I asked my teammate Trevor to let me check out his Metallica tape out of curiosity. It changed the way I thought about music forever! After that experience, I would watch MTV's Headbangers Ball every Saturday night after Yo! MTV Raps and see what else in the world of metal, grunge, or hard rock I liked. Thanks Trevor!
its sad you missed prime Metallica, sadly i did too i was born in 03, i wish i was a teenager in the 80s so i could grow up with Metallica, they're my favorite of all time, my heroes, ive seen em once in 2017 and i get to see em again in buffalo this summer with my second favorite band who I've seen 3 times Ice Nine Kills. even if they're past their prime you gotta see them Alex, they put on such a fucking killer show regardless of age
Theres a reason classic rock & 80's metal still holds up against most music so many years later. We dont hear as much music that hits nearly as hard as the original passion of the genre. Theyre just 1 of the many bands & artists that paved the way for the genre to continue to thrive. Itll never go away. If it does, the world has officially come to an end.
I’ve seen them live and I truly feel they still have the same energy as they have in past years. It doesn’t matter what songs they play they have a way of bringing such an energy to their shows they are amazing.
I walked into a bar back home in VA about 20+ years ago, and there was this beautiful, long dark-haired kid about 20 yrs old, the bluest eyes I've ever seen, just shredding the fuuuu out of this song. I was MESMERIZED. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Every time I hear this song, I remember being at the show on this tour. Had 3rd row seats but was in 2nd row for most of the show, because my short ass was behind a really tall guy, and he was nice and offered me to move up beside him so I could see. It was an awesome show! This is one of my favourite songs of theirs.
A memory for me, we were learning to play our instruments as teenagers, starting a metal band. This was one of the first songs we could play all the way through without messing up. The first time we nailed it, the feeling of swag I could hear us adding, knowing we were riding the tiger. Great moment.
I was 10, little brother was 7. We are “grounded” sitting in my room. I take our boom box out and we jam all night long to this song & this album. Something I’ll never forget. 20 years ago!
I discovered metallica on MTV when I was 11 years old. My first two albums were load and reload. After that, I went old school and heard master of puppets and kill 'em all. I saw them live in 1999 with a friend and his dad and I remember I asked my friend's dad the name of all the songs I didn't know. Sad but true was one that blew off my mind and hearing it live for the first time, even before listening to the record is something I'll never forget.
This song always brings back memories. The song that got me into them when I was 10 years old. I was riding with my dad in his truck when it came on the radio and it was the coolest song I had ever heard. He told me he had the cd at home and I would play it through our stereo all the time after that. I slowly discovered their other albums too over time and they quickly became my favorite band.
Back in the early 90s, I lived with a girl that had a 6 year old daughter. Whenever I took her anywhere, she would ask me to play the I'm your life song. She once made the request of her father, a country music fan, and he freaked out wanting to know what the hell she had been listening to. lol
This song takes me back to sitting on my tailgate at a bonfire at my best friend's house while drinking beer, senior year of high school ('99-00)! Also, I've seen them live twice (including their last time in DFW at AT&T Stadium) and they put on 1 of the best shows you will EVER see, PERIOD!
When I hear this song, I think of my dad and I going fishing. He raised me on metallica, disturbed, and avenged sevenfold. I'm glad you asked about the memories my man🙏 I've been subbed to you since like 2018 or 2019. Keep doing what you do best!
A must see concert for you Alex and they can still put on a hell of a great show. My first time seeing them was when I was 14 and they were on tour with Ozzy Osbourne. It was there Master of Puppets tour and Cliff Burton was a beast on bass. Since then I have seen them at least 10 times in concert.
I guess my memory was that I loved the first four albums so much that I wasn't thrilled with the change but this song proved that not as fast could still be super heavy! Probably my favorite of this album!!
It reminds me when I came to this country and went to 8th grade without knowing any English and was thrown into high school with 0 english. And having no Mtv, nothing, a friend I made during this time introduced me to this music. They’d play it in the radio 24/7 so even though I had no money to buy the cd nor MTV, it was amazing to me just by the music itself. I was so happy they’d play on the radio all the time! That and GNR Use Your Illusion. They both have a special place in my heart because they made it easier to get used to this country’s culture
Kind of bummed you cut that so Much! Great Song! I saw Metallica back in 86 ( Master of Puppets tour ) when they opened for Ozzy and they blew the roof of that Arena! If you get a chance to see them, go see them!
So many memories!! …… at a Metallica concert and I knew the specific guitar Kirk Hammett uses for this song and YELLED as he was walking on the stage “SAD BUT TRUUUUUUUE!!!” And he looked right at me then during nothing else matters played the intro right in front of our corner …… they kick ass ;)
You asked for a reminder so…it reminds me of the 3 times I saw them on this tour! All in Cincinnati, Ohio. First time by themselves with no opener, second time with Metal Church, third time with Suicidal Tendencies and Danzig. So there ya go.
As a kid on a reservation stealing c and d batteries to make sure my Teddy ruxpin tape player good handle playing these albums back to back in the middle of the woods, and people stating that are semi-psychotic child out in the woods head banging with a Teddy ruxpin take player was one of the best things they've ever seen.
Memory of this song? Easy. Being in the military. The base was supposed to start being a dry base the weekend we had a barracks party. Numerous rooms. Mucho alcohol. Very loud Metallica, Ozzy and the such. When the “authorities” showed up, Metallica’s ‘Sad But True’ was playing out of at least three rooms that I can remember.
Songs reminds me of life as a 26year old in 2022 that no matter how I work or how much I apply myself we are destined to fail. It's sad but true. No way to succeed or retire in America today. We are destined to work til we die and barely scrape by. Sad but true.
I first heard this when it came out in 1991. I got a cassette from the local record shop in Switzerland where I was living at the time. I'd been a fan since 1987 (yeah, I'm old) and as soon as I heard Sandman and then Sad But True, I knew that they were going to be huge. The sound, the vibe, the depth, the movement, the meaning... it's so 'complete'. I saw them 3 times on that tour - they played 3 hours a night each time. Fantastic.
First memory I have of Metallica is my friends introducing them to me in junior high during band practice. a pair of headphones was put on my head, and a friend excitedly hit play to see if i could mimic sad but true then and there on the drumset. I couldn't! but i remember having to hide metallica and slayer and pantera from my parents for the first few months. I'd practice in secret when they weren't home
This song reminds me of seeing them on the “Nowhere Else to Roam” tour when I was 13. “Wherever I May Roam” was the song that my buddy played for me, and it was game over after that.
I was a very angry kid in grade 9. Hey brother-in-law used to lend me his Metallica CDs. I would listen to them on repeat throughout the day to get me through. I used to love to listen to the black album. Right after sad but true is a song called 'holier than thou' could literally listen to those two songs on repeat. I remember listening to those two songs throughout the tech class. Teacher couldn't stand me and I couldn't stand him in those two songs just highlighted how I felt in those classes. He brought out the worst in me and he was always holier than thou'..
My memory is this guy Teddy, long haired Filipino guy I worked with at Putt Putt golf who introduced me to this and Tool and other heavy stuff. He gave me floor tickets to see Metallica right before I left and went off to college
Big radio dj came to our little Pennsylvania town to be a judge for our Halloween parade, when he stood up to announce the winner, we pants him & yelled SAD BUT TRUE into the microphone! It was amazing stupid fun back then & METALLICA was the simply the soundtrack of our lives, your reactions to them reminds of getting their new release & sitting around with my brothers & just picking it to the bone, one of us would hear something the others wouldn't & we'd rewind & point it out, wish you could've been there, it was an amazing time!🤘!
This video has so much more meaning then you might think. Cliff their bass guitarist had a major drug problem and he died from an overdose. The song is about drugs and how it affected Cliff, he was never even part of the song they made the song after he died.
This song was the one that told me I didn’t have to be perfect all the time and that I could be anger and after feeling anger and it being validated by this song I felt powerful. It was the summer of 1999 I was 15 years old and I emerged this whole different person. I was confident and felt unstoppable.
About time Metallica comes back to the channel. And the memory I probably have is seeing this song played live. You can feel it in your fuckin heart bro. Swear to god. You gotta see them and ALSO you MUST react to Wherever I May Roam live because they add much more to it live.
Realistically, this song’s lyrics makes me think of my addiction to alcohol - starting off with “I’m your only friend, I’m the one who takes you there” to “I’m your life, and I no longer care” it’s hard hearing sometimes.
A memory that pops up with this song is the day it came out. My 16 yr old self waiting for the record store to open for the midnight sale! Although I don't remember if it was a CD or a cassette.
My memory of this takes me back to the Freddie Mercury tribute concert at Wembley Stadium. Metallica opened the show with Enter Sandman and then played this. It was the first time I heard this song and I was hooked.
The immediate memory that pops up is being 11 years old when this album came out, listening to this song while playing Nintendo with my brother. I grew up in a great time for music.

Y'know, it was really amazing watching you go from hiphop-head to metalhead. You're always welcome among us.
I'm recalling the time I saw them in Houston for this tour and this song especially sounded fkn awesome live...
This song reminds me of a friend/coworker who used to always say “sand patrol” during the chorus. You’re welcome everyone. 😀
This is one of my favorite Metallica songs. I'm so happy you finally decided to react to it! Waited years!
Reminds me of being on a middle school field trip blasting this cassette on my Walkman. Innocent and easy times. Dope reactions
This is one of their heaviest songs, along with “The Thing That Should Not Be” and “Dream No More”.
This was the song that really got me into metallica. Just because i heard it on the radio, and i couldnt stop banging my head.
I saw this tour in 1993. So loud that I couldn't take a deep breath. Awesome.
Fantastic.
Riding down the country roads were I lived with the windows down wind blowing, summer night , stoned and jamming. I could do that for hours!
Saw them live back in the 80’s reminds me of the good old days when music was good awesome show.
This song reminds me of seeing them on the “Nowhere Else to Roam” tour when I was 13. “Wherever I May Roam” was the song that my buddy played for me, and it was game over after that.
I've seen Metallica multiple times since the 80s. I took my then-23 year old son with me to see them in 2019 and it was as good as always.
wow no way, I was watching your other vids and was wishing you did sad but true but.. here we go woo hoo
Thats the first ive seen u badass jam
Yayyy! Rock on!
If this song was released today it would BREAK the charts.
My memory is this guy Teddy, long haired Filipino guy I worked with at Putt Putt golf who introduced me to this and Tool and other heavy stuff. He gave me floor tickets to see Metallica right before I left and went off to college
Love seeing them play with Jason, even on video clip.
I’ve listened to a lot of hip hop and rock records in my life and this is easily the most perfectly mixed thing I’ve ever heard.
