@@SteveMayedaTV Steve! Thank you so much man 🥰 I didn’t expect this and I’m really really honored for that! It’s the first time someone donating for a coffee ☕️ on youtube! I’ve seen your channel and I’m subscribed. I saw your helpful videos and I’m not the only person that can benefit from your content! But I’m wondering what camera you’re using for your videos and if you’re looking into the GH7?
@@kenslyder Hey thanks and you're welcome. I have used many Lumix cameras. G9, GH5, S5, S5iix, GH6 and at some point, I will get a G9ii. There is some documentary stuff I need to do and I think I will use either the G9ii and GH5 or GH6 and GH5. The reason is that the GH5 has way better battery life and a great camera. This is also why i like your videos because you really break down a lot of that stuff, and you also are one of the few who talks about sigma contemporary lenses for MF3.
awesome 🔥🙌🍀
The end of the video was really emotional and cinematic.
Videomaker speaking to others videomakers, all in love with Lumix m4/3 and image making.
That is a good purpose actuality in this channel.
Cheers 🧡🌊
@@FluidSurfing thank you ! I‘m glad that you liked it ☺️
Great colors. Looks like a movie. The things I respect most are dedication to your craft, kindness and honesty to people and yourself. You have it 100%
@@ThisisGold1 I’m really very honored to hear that from you! Thank you so much ❤️🙌
Mine GH7 arrived today, as a future A cam besides two GH5II we have. The first impression - the build quality feels below GH5II level. It feels as I should pay much more attention not to make any damage to the GH7 than to the GH5II. Joystick is far better on Gh5II, too. Dialpad moves smoother on Gh5II, too. The main reason for choosing GH7 was the PDAF and SSD recording. I hope the colors on GH7 are similar enough to GH5II.
Thanks for the honest review. A bit late for me, but I still haven't any regrets. I'll get used to it. I shoot only indoors and I treat the equipment with lot of care. But if I'd have to shoot outdoors, I'd be really warried, although GH7 is supposedly weather sealed. The body and the commands just seem a bit vulnerable to me.
@@kvrga I completely agree with you! The Joystick feels really really bad and like you said the Buttons and screen feels unstable compared to the OG GH5. I took it out in the rain ones, normally I cover my camera always with a plastic bag. I didn’t have any problem with the GH7
I have a GH6 and I use the focus limiter and manual focus. I am interested in the GH7 because of the autofocus. I really appreciate your detailed analysis of the GH7 autofocus. I use a USB-C battery to power my camera as I shoot long events.
@@gcprost Thanks for your comment! For me the GH7 is a great improvement for autofocus. Of course there are some little bugs but I’m very happy with it.
Thanks man! I was considering to buy a GH7 so your video is truly usefull. (I'm a GH5 owner/user).
@@hidden_talent2331 I appreciate that thank you for the support ✌️🙏
Great video! Great find on the full area AF! It helps on the GH6 as well! Thank you so much Ken!
@@ChuckSeayII Thank you so much ☺️ I didn’t know before I tested it! I would be frustrated if it wouldn’t work 😅
there’s nothing wrong with the camera if, as you point out, you set the camera correctly But thank you for pointing out the various modes
@@fieldvisiontv thanks for the comment. But as you can see in the video, the eye detection mode on humans doesn’t work as good as animal eye detection
Had a chance today to try the full area af mode with the native lumix kit-lens, did 2 takes and the footage is unuseable because of the hunting it causes. It was raining and there were moving trees in the frame so very unforgiving background but I didnt have the problem with subject tracking mode. I’d stick to subject tracking as default and use full area mode if the shot will include a in-focus subject walking in the corners of the frame. All good take care ✌🏻

The fact that the professional film maker even in hollywood stiil using manual focus until now.
Auto focus maybe very crucial for a solo, but i think don’t rely too much on to the autofocus.
So GH5 is still reliable until now, and i prefer to learn using manual focus than rely on the auto focus
@@restiusga2549 of course you’re right. But like you say, as a solo filmmaker especially when working on a gimbal if a brand claims to have a reliable autofocus it has to be so👍☺️

@@mrtinacrispoti you’re welcome and thanks for the comment and support 🙏🙌
Very good content, however don't except people to see the issue. The GH6 had a much worse AF bug with frame rate below 48 fps, nothing was really in focus and most people never seen the issue, they only thought the GH6 was soft and "organic".
@@aiseurnae5976 😄 maybe you’re right bro! Nice to hear from you! How’re you doing? Did you get the Nikon to test yet? greetings
@@kenslyder Not yet I was in vacation 😁. With the S1, S5II and G9II I already have good cameras. The Nikon has bad IBIS and it will be a big downgrade compared to Panasonic.
I'm looking mainly for new AF lenses with very good coating, contrast and colors.
I love the Panasonic m43 10-25mm and 25-50mm because of their incredible rendering. So far I only found the very expensive APO SL lenses and the FE Zeiss Batis lenses to have the same combination of great colors and contrast.
How do you like the GH7 (expect for the AF tracking issue) ? It must be a game changer for you for noise coming from the GH5, especially at low ISO. I used the GH5 yesterday for some photos and I was suprised how noisy the files were compared to the G9II at ISO 200/400. I still prefer the 4k detail rendering of the GH5 but both the G9II and GH7 are better in almost everyway ( and it was a pain to charge the GH5 in vacation because of the lack of USB charge 😅).
@@aiseurnae5976 Awesome 😎 👏 I love the GH7 apart from those little bugs. 🐛 I hope you enjoyed your vacation mate 😊👋
Gh,,6 not soft organic. I own one.
13:45 i laughed when you said "you dont even see the beauty of the nature" and gimbal dies and says otherwise as it focuses on the tree above 🤣I have a gh5 and so its curious to see how the auto focus works on the gh7 from someone not sponsored. It's clearly wayyyyyyyy better now but I understand the reasoning to wanting it to focus better when coming into the side of the frame or extreme closeups of the eye. Good points made. Thanks for the video!
@@ChessBoxin hahahaha yes real life situation 😄 I’ve found it funny too😊 thanks mate for the comment 🙌
I love the commitment of jumping in and out of frame. How does the auto focus work with the metabones adaptor?
@@MrSTravelQuest Thanks for the comment! I don’t know how good it works with Metabones because I don’t use them

@@kenslyder well i never, that's impressive , thanks Ken . 🤠👍
I've been using panasonic GH cameras forever......and the only way for sure to capture your target 100% is to use the "touch to focus" with tracking on.
Panasonic improved their autofocus with the GH7, but it nowhere near the class of Sony.
Also, with you standing on the side of the frame and the camera losing focus.....almost all camera manufacturers cameras will do this if your settings are incorrect.......it's not the camera's fault......it's operator error!
@@TheBucsAnthem Coming from the GH5 I couldn’t know in advance that I had to set the camera to full areas mode. Not everyone who buys a new camera know that, so i’ve just showed it. Whats wrong with it? By the way.. on the GH5 I was using the tracking autofocus like you too. Cheers
@@kenslyder Is there some setiing I don't know of, or the GH5II is different to the GH5? I hate that I cannot touch to focus, but instead I have to drag over the screen and then touch AF icon on the screen. I tried tracking and it is ok in well lit scenes. Also, when using AF in 256 points mode (if I guessed the name) the results are pretty good.
Actually, on the GH5II it would be nice to have the option to set the speed of refocusing when using the back-button-auto-focusing technique. I use it a lot, but have to avoid those moments in the final edit.
@@kvrga On the GH5 I used tracking autofocus a lot. But it is just inconsistent
I saw some videos when you use it on talking headshot or portrait that it will easily lost autofocus when you move your hands while talking. You should try it that test specially when you want to do that kind of content
@@zkiel5158 yes now after 2 month whit the GH7 I know it but it’s fine as is.

This is really awesome. Subscribed to your content because of the GH5 content - but especially for your contrast curve and colour grading. Really awesome.
What is the sigma lens you used for your video? the 30 mm or the 56mm?
Kind regards from Germany
@@wandelmacherstudio awww😻 thank you so so much! It’s the Sigma 30mm 1.4! It’s the most pleasing and realistic focal length for closeup shots on M43 :)) But make sure you get the M43 version of those lenses! Hello Germany 🇩🇪🫶
I'm a bit confused on what the problem is here. Eye detection does work but the interface is different (it puts a crosshair around the eye).
I agree that they should change it though.
@@D3AL1O the crosshair disappears when you move close to the lens with your eyes and the focus goes to the nose when you’re on human detection mode. On animal detection on the other hand, you get a square on your eye and you can get very close to the lens with your eye while the yellow square still sticks to your eye keeping the eye perfectly in focus. I don’t understand why Panasonic doesn’t fix the human eye detection
@@kenslyder yes i agree from what you demonstrated , it focuses close to the eye in animal eye detect , showing , its not because you were too close in human mode , so it should be tweak-able with a firmware upgrade . cheers Ken , i think you should be the new chief field tester for panny ha ha , well done . , the more options , the more life can get confusing at first but then settles down , and i recon they will sort it , just like the 2.4 version in the G9 was a big improvement for the time . cheers
@@minorrhoads5318 You’re great mate ☺️ thank you so much for the comments! You’re supporting my channel tremendously and I love to chat in the comments about cameras. What’s your favorite camera that you have tested at the moment?
@@kenslyder Well i have only tested what i own going all the way back to about 2012 i think , I had a SONY POINT AND SHOOT HX200V great camera in good light and marvelous auto focus before the days of phase detect , so for video quality i bought the gh2 and later put a hack in it and got faster lenses for low light , i still love that camera as i have said , but yes i have had a few Panasonic's , i use the G9 the most but the GH5 for more serious footage as it does not limit the 4k time like the old G9 does , but i am still gonna weight a bit longer before i go PD AUTO FOCUS , thanks for asking . and cheers for now Ken . 🤠and you are great to . all the best to ya .
I'm an s5ii user, and the autofocus will be bad at higher frame rates, for example at 60fps. Can you make a video about autofocus at 60fps and 120 fps 4k? I wanted to make sure, before buying my first MFT camera.
@@IkaSafderatq Yes I’ve made a video on 60fps with the GH7 here ua-cam.com/video/DPIFfB6zCDg/v-deo.htmlsi=Tb88AtsDtTosX_9V
Because the s5ii in 60 fps uses contrast autofocus and not phase detect. It uses the old autofocus mode from panasonic...
hi congratulations for the video, I was undecided whether to get it for the autofocus, but seeing that the autofocus isn't very perfect in the other modes I was thinking that maybe it's better to go for the gh6 and save something, what would you recommend? I thank you in advance
@@SandroBiagioni12 hello to be honest the autofocus of the GH7 is much more better than the GH6. I would still recommend the GH7 over the GH6

@@sebsefyu Hey, I don’t know which is best for low light yet. Do you own the GH7? The only thing happening to me if I’m recording in extreme low light situation, I get a lot of focus hunting when the camera is set to human detection mode. But you have to try it yourself because I didn’t make an in depth low light, specific autofocus test yet.
@@kenslyder Yes i have GH7 with 9mm Leica lens. Flashed that new 1.1 firmware too. Concerts are not completly dark. Stage is usually fairly well lit with those colored lights. I will view footage on Monday. I did open gate 5.7 with 9x16 frame and put zone in middle of that frame. Then i also did human tracking.
awesome and yes fortunately stages are lit very well and you shouldn’t have a problem. I subscribed to your channel maybe I’m going to see some footage of yours in the future 🔥
Sure. I just reviewed the footage. Video is good. Audio is surprising good with tascam external mic. Had to do gain low on preamp and -18db and limit clipping. -20db would be better. No clipping at all. All clean but on preamp it was getting to yellow region. Need better mic, maybe like zoom h5 with -20db. 9mm is too wide for concerts. Probably need good zoom lens. 9mm I bought for street photos but also wanted wide stage capture. Autotocus is not an issue with 9mm lens. Lol.

@@kenslyder do you think that the Real Time LUT i bough from Gamut and installed it into the camera might be the issue? As im filming in it :(
@@tomastrnkaYT interesting… it could be that they introduced film grain on it? Try to shoot with 3-4 different picture profiles for instance.
