Butterscotch pie was Mother’s favourite! She seldom had it, except looked forward to eating it every year when we went to the cottage. We took my Dad’s aunts to the annual church social in the country where they grew up in the late 1800’s! The last time we went there was in 1966 and my Dad ate 10 pieces of pie!! He had no meat or salads. Just pies! The church ladies couldn’t believe it 😂😂 I am going to try your recipe as I love anything butterscotch. Even my first cat’s name was Butterscotch! 😅. Thanks for sharing! 👏🏻👏🏻🧑🏻‍🦰🇨🇦

@@Barbarra63297 I too named my cat Butterscotch because of his colour. My mother shortened his name to just “ Baby”. One dark evening when my mother went outside the front door to call the cat to come back in for the night,
She called out “ Come on Baby, come on home!”. Unbeknownst to her, before she had come out the front door, the neighbour across the street had come home and parked his car in his garage. When he heard my mother calling my cat, he walked out of his garage and yelled over to her “ I’ll be right over! “ They both started laughing so hard. They knew each other from high school, so it was only silly joking! 😂😂

@@debbiechaney6607I did crafts when I lived in Simi, did even more after I moved back to Texas. There was a place called Garden Ridge not even a half mile from me. It was 3 acres of fabulous craft supplies! First time I went my shoes sort of hurt my feet, it would have taken me less than ten minutes to go home and back but I couldn’t make myself leave! I just took my shoes off and continued on. Garden Ridge no longer exists, people know it as At Home now, and At Home is really nice, but I’ll never enjoy it as much as I did

I have an old cookbook from early 1900’s. No microwaves or pre-made crusts . I made the crust, cooked to butterscotch pudding in an old cast iron skillet. The ingredients seem to be the same, but try using a cast iron skillet. I do use meringue on mine. I may try whipping cream. Thx for sharing this. The cookbook was my granny’s and was given to my mom. When my mom passed, someone else got the cookbook. Possibly even discarded it when cleaning. I’m the only child that used the cookbook other than my granny and mom. I have searched for ten years trying to find the little cookbook. I think it was a ‘little gift from Clabber girl’

Yes I know they done it like that back then. But technology is a blessing and those women wouldn't use a wood burning stove because their mother did. My mama started using a microwave for pudding in the 90's and if you get a batter bowl and try it you will be amazed!

Love Butterscotch Pie! Mom made it when we were growing up and we could have eaten that whole pie between brother and I. I make my own brown sugar, I make a double batch of light then take half away and put it in container then I add more Grandma's molasses and make the rest dark, saves time and money doing it yourself and you rarely run out. I also make my own Cool Whip, it's so easy and it tastes and looks like store bought and it freezes just the same. Now you got me hungry to make butterscotch pie!

My mother was an outstanding cook, although she never made butterscotch pie. I always made it with "cook and serve" butterscotch pudding mix because all the butterscotch recipes I could find required making a caramel, and I didn't want to bother -- especially because I liked the mix just fine. I can't wait to try your recipe, though. I've two suggestions for you to try. Make it with a ginger snap crust and top it with toasted marshmallows. (I always cut large marshmallows in half with the cut surface on the bottom to get more toastiness.)

That made me jump when you were whipping the cream and you sped up the video. There was a sudden jerk and I thought the towel got caught by the beaters. Oh Lordy! 😂

Of course I use boxed pudding in quickie recipes, but except for tapioca pudding, I have never had boxed pudding. Oops, I lied. I’ve made a quick rice pudding with cook n serve vanilla pudding. It’s not bad. My mother always made pudding from scratch including her tapioca pudding and rice pudding. She used the huge pearls of tapioca. I just loved it. To this day, I love tapioca pudding.

I’ve only ever made homemade butterscotch pudding, but pie would be better.

I *love* butterscotch pie. I tried making my mom's but it was a sloppy epic fail. Definitely, I am going to try this pie (maybe even this (Canadian) long weekend!) Thank you, Tammy! God Bless

Does this taste like those butterscotch candies? That’s the only butterscotch thing I’ve ever had and I enjoy them~

Hi Tammy, my mother made the best from scratch, butterscotch pie I’ve ever tasted, so I’m anxious to see how your recipe compares to hers. She did use meringue, however. She passed away seven years ago Mother’s Day, but the date is not always on Mother’s Day. It was the Friday before when she passed away May 12, 2017.

What if you dont have or use a microwave? Do you put it on the stove? I dont use coolwhip, its full of chemicals and plastic, whipping cream is the best way
