I'm an old man whose memory's been triggered by watching some homemade cake baking. Life was mighty meager growing up. Of course, we didn't know anything else because (unlike these days) we didn't have a window into the lives of the well-to-do. My Mum didn't pretend to be great cook. She'd grown up with money, then fallen in love with a struggling theology student. But complaining was a foreign language at home. (Though, in later life, a journalist friend of mine interviewed a clergyman who told her: "The ministry is poverty ... all expenses paid.") It was my Dad, who had begun full-time employment with a baker at the age of 12 and whose maiden aunt was the head cook at an English manor house, who taught my Mum how to cook. My Mum's sweet treat specialty was brownies. She always made a green, mint icing for them. Unlike the kitchen demo here, where the icing was "laid on with a trowel", economy dictated a different approach in our home. I suppose, nowadays, you'd see the icing on the top of those brownies and say they were glazed rather than iced. We'd gently rib Mum, telling her she'd outdone herself with how thinly she'd been able to ice the lastest batch of brownies ... a new World Record. Thanks for the inspiration to reflect on those good old days.
You had me at peanut butter cake!!! This is ALL ME!! Extra peanut butter doesn't hurt Tammy!! Lol i measure with my eyes and heart!! Tammy, you have a beautiful kitchen/home!! God bless you
i bet that mixer is not cheap, it’s very nice! i have only baked from scratch maybe 3 times in my life, i certainly don’t have any type of stand mixer at all. i watched because this cake looks amazing, but probably way too difficult/complicated for me, especially since i only have an old hand mixer. i don’t really eat sugar either but this was fun to watch, i wish i could eat a piece!!
I just finished making the Texas Sheet Cake. One may question my sanity as to why with a temp of 91 degrees out side I would turn on the oven. 😅 I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a peanut butter cake. Sounds good. My favorite peanut butter is Reese’s. Enjoy the rest of your day!
I run my oven all year long, because I bake all year long. With central air conditioning, it doesn’t matter how hot it is outside and the house stays comfortable.❤️
My mom used to make a great peanut butter cake, and a lot more unfancy-but-awesome kitchen products! Things I'll never see again! Miss her for so many reasons, kitchen skills included! LOVE YOU, MOM!
I understand completely. Those lucky enough to still have their beloved mothers should spend a while deciding how they will go use precious time with them to avoid future heartache and regrets.
my goodness that looks so GOOD!! I would have ate the batter (my favorite is cake batter) then I would have ate the icing before the cake got frosted.. 😋🤦🏼♀️ yes, I am that person! Thanks for sharing, I am definitely making this, Lord willing! ❤
You are such a joy to watch!!! Thanks for this recipe cuz I love love love peanut butter on anything and everything! God's blessings to you and your family.......🥰🥰🥰
It’s so therapeutic watching you frost lol! You should have a show with just spreading icing 😂The peanut butter cake looks delicious!! Definitely giving it ago.Thank you for sharing 🙏❤️
I’ve been making homemade cakes for 2 years now. Recently got lazy and bought a prepackaged mix and boy can I tell the difference. So disappointed; back to homemade and BTW peanut butter is one of my favorites. Hubby makes me peanut butter pies….YUM!
I'm taking a "dish" to a graduation party on the 22nd and was wondering if I were to make this in a ½ sheet pan should I double the recipe or will 1½ times be enough? I don't want it to overflow the pan. I had a stroke and lost the use of my left arm so I don't want to have to clean my oven if I can help it......but then none of us do, do we? 😂😊
Thank you for your great receipes 😍 Your spaggetti sauce is one of my families favorite My son gave me your first cookbook for mothers day He is a good son but I think he is expecting enjoying a lot more home cook meals
I love your white cake mix recipe! I have made it many times. This last time my layer did t rise very much. I just wondered if you ever had that happen?
I too love that peanut butter. Your cake looks delish, I've never tried that kind. My mom was a fabulous baker & cook, her chocolate cake could not be beat! 🙂👍💖
Looks good people use to love my grandmothers peanut butter cake you did good I remember the taste of my grannies peanut butter cake a yum thank you🙏🏼😇👍👌💯🌹
I usually use a little less sugar in baked goods with no difference in taste. I love sometimes use applesauce instead of oil, liken banana bread, but is not quite the same texture.
Oh my, looks absolutely delicious sweet girl!! I love watching you make a layer cake, you make it look so easy!! I have made a hot mess out of layer cakes😂 so I always do sheet cakes 🤦🏻♀️I'm gonna try this one & see how I do with all of your tips 😉 love ya❤
Oh my goodness that looks absolutely delicious! Gonna have to give it a try. Mine won't turn out as pretty as yours is i have issues with layer cakes. But gonna try it anyway 😀. Thank you for the tips on frosting the cake.
This looks so delicious! I love peanut butter and I will have to find some way to add some chocolate even if it’s a drizzle of chocolate syrup, shaved chocolate or curls or a scoop of chocolate ice cream when served.
An old friend of mine, who is no longer with us, used to always me a peanut butter cake with peanut butter icing for my birthday!! I sure do miss Brenda!!
I make a delicious peanut butter cake using a box cake mix. I add extra eggs and a cup of peanut butter to other cake ingredients. And my frosting is powdered sugar and peanut butter. Delicious and fast and easy and so moist.
Lately I've encounter quite a bit of people that don't like the word "moist" and I don't know why. What other word would anyone use to describe a cake? Damp, wet, humid? I would think those words are worse. Anyways, I've never heard of Peanut Butter Cake; an even less "Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Cake" and I'm old, lol. I'm really not a fan of peanut butter in itself like peanut butter sandwiches, but I love Big Chewy Peanut Butter Cookies. This cake looks very delicious, too. Thank you...I think I will make this. Have a Wonderfully Blessed Day.
Tammy when I first began cooking, all I had to mix cakes and icing was a crank type beater. I LOVE my mixers! This cakes looks wonderful thank you for the recipe and the video.
My dad loves anything peanut butter. So I'll make this Sunday Father's day..

I love peanut butter but cannot find one I like, including Jif (sorry Tammy 😟). Is Reese's better than Jif in your opinion?
@@dianeallen4468 iv been buying almond butter at wmart lately, that might make a nice variation, w/sliced almonds on top
@@dianeallen4468I only like Jif. I’ve never found anything else I like. And it’s too expensive to try many. Hope you find one you like.

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it. All you wanna do is beat it. Don’t forget to add the flour.
I think a chocolate icing for the center would be amazing.
This looks so delicious. I bet this cake would be fantastic frosted with chocolate frosting-like a Reese's Cup in cake form.
