Always amusing to look back at the age before decompressed storytelling. Three parts for Arthur to become king, flee his responsibilities, find out Mera lost her powers, realize his love for her, lose his kingdom, witness the transformation of Atlantis, rebel, get rescued, have a wedding. That’s at least a couple years’ worth of modern plotting.

Also, can we note that even during this Silver Age, the Atom of all characters gets the respect he deserves? It's like he just vanished until the DCAU brought him back into knowledge.
This issue was redone for Teen Titans: Year One and was a ton of fun. I loved in that issue Wonder Woman is telling everyone close to her "Oh I don't need scuba gear, I got these ear rings from Poseidon, and now I can breath under water" to the point other Justice Leaguers are all "She needs to stop with the ear ring talk we all heard." under their breath
I was puzzled by WW standing there like breathing under water was super easy, barely an inconvenience, but then I can never figure out precisely how superpowered she's supposed to be.
at one point, golden age WW had earrings that magically produced fresh oxygen so i guess they got "passed on" to silver age WW just for this undersea shin-dig!
Mera was also dead at one time -- maybe for a two issues of a mini-series before it was revealed her physiology is different than most Atlanteans. She was impaled, but no big whoop -- apparently.
Looks like Sasha's finally run out of Lois weddings and moved on to other great superhero wedding stories. I look forward to the Flash marrying Iris, Elongated Man marrying Sue, of course the Hawks, all leading up to the *real* wedding of the century: Scott "Mister Miracle" Free and Big Barda!

I like the content on newer comics since I have't read much after the they launched the new 52. And I love the "you guys have been sleeping on..." content too because not everything in comics has to be superheroes. All in all, thanks for the videos. I too pronounce Mera two different ways. I also highly appreciate the water effect you put over the underwater scenes and ONLY the underwater scenes (yes I noticed)
I've long suspected that the real reason Mera's powers were temporarily removed was because the PTB felt that she was more powerful than Aquaman, and that the star of the title shouldn't be outshone by his love interest. This also carried over to the 1967 Filmation cartoon, in which Mera doesn't have hard-water powers (and the Atlanteans are air-breathers!) There must've been a change of heart 'cause Mera's powers are restored just 4 issues later, in #22. Which is a good thing!
Aquaman's reaction to suddenly choosing someone to marry totally gave off some ace/aro vibes like specifically demisexual/romantic or graysexual/romantic vibes I don't know much about Aquaman but at least based off of this I would headcannon him as graysexual

I know I am years late but Atlantis could be an Elective Monarchy. It happened in Real Life were a King is chosen by a handful of candidates that are related to him or from powerful noble families who rule their own fiefdoms within the Kingdom or Empire. Hell, one exists right now with Malaysia.
