I was the singing voice of R2 in this number --- playing on the MOOG synthesizer. I was a violinist and keyboard player for the Boston Pops for 20 seasons. J. Rosen
Wow this is awesome c3po can be musical master he likes symphony classics....atoo ditoo also with his electronic sounds 😁☺️🙂
Screw the fact that I played on the same stage as the BSO...I played on the same stage as C-3PO and R2D2!
If you think about it, this makes complete sense, since John Williams was once a conductor for the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
So great to see again! Thank you!
I remember watching this when it originally aired in April 1980 on PBS. I was an 11-year-old Star Wars fanatic and even then was absolutely nuts about the music. Of course, I tuned in because it was a "Star Wars" concert. Little was I -- or the entire viewing public -- aware that Williams was about to lead the BSO in the global debut of "The Imperial March." A little over three weeks before "The Empire Strikes Back" was released, we heard the most intimidating, powerful, dark piece of music imaginable from the new movie. What would be taking place onscreen when the score was used? A duel? A dogfight? The imagination ran wild as this magnificent work was heard for the first time. There's a great article from "Slate" magazine from December 2015 by Alan Siegel that chronicles the concert and includes several comments by a BSO bassist on "The Imperial March," including how demanding the piece is on an orchestra's string section; it's essentially five minutes of high-speed, unrelenting rhythm. So much so that Williams would apparently apologize to the orchestra after rehearsals. Worth looking up as an interesting piece of Star Wars history.
Thank god for that trim around the edge of the stage- R2 almost rolled off twice!
I'm still looking for a clip of the John William's concert when E.T. waddled onstage and the crowd went crazy.
Knowing his track record it is amazing Artoo didn't go over the edge of the stage.
@Skull10 That was John Williams' debut as conductor of the Pops back in the Spring of 1980.
I think R2's been at the metal polish again.
I didn't know C-3PO was a conductor
