Bringing your birds into breeding condition

Before birds breed, the adults need to know that the food they are consuming is going to be good enough to raise chicks. It is best to give that message gently for 2-3 months prior to your planned breeding date. This video provides some useful tip on how to bring your birds into breeding condition.

I have a question. I now know that I need a dish with low protein food, like seeds and a high protein dish of food and let the birds pick what they want. What I don't know is what to put in the high protein dish. I am breeding budgies if that matters. Thanks

Thank you for your question Lawrence. The products to put into the high protein dish are eggfoods with added protein in them. The eggfoods are about 16% protein, which is quite high compared to the seeds. Once you add something like our ProBoost SuperMax into this, it will bring the protein levels right up. This in turn will help to bring both hen and cock into breeding condition at the same time.
