I love birds I have had canaries all my life now that I'm retired I have a big aviary full of them!!! Yes I always feed them everything good and the seeds that fall on the floor get green and big and they really enjoy it

My canary loves brocolli and will eat some apple but he doesn't seem interested in other fresh fruit and veg. I keep offering a little in the hope he will get accustomed to it.

Hi. I have a question on the cage a canary is kept in. I have been doing research on canaries and their requirements.I have a cage ready for a canary but I am afraid the bar spacing is to big. What is the maximum bar spacing that is needed for a canary. And thank you very much for all you bird content. It made my decision on what bird to get much easier.
@@Loveofpets Thank you very much for the reply. It looks like my bar spacing is narrow enough for a canary. The canary wil be the only bird in the house. Wil he be ok by his own or is a partner needed to not be lonely.

I stoped after awhile sadly and now that I have a second bird I would like to try to give them some greens again. Do you know any way to get them to like the food. I usually gave him spinach parsley and carrots with some kind of fruit.

Hi, do you give grit to your other birds like your cockatiels my breeder insist I keep that in their cage at all times but I’ve also heard negative opinions about it if you take good care of your birds, so your opinion matters
Hi, I do not offer grit as it is not needed and it can sit in their crop and possibly cause and impaction. Hookbills can hull their seeds so its not needed. My avian vet also has recommended not to offer it to hook bills
Hi , I never heard that banana is bad for canaries . They are great for vitamin A,C and B6. They also contain potassium and magnesium. Too much banana isnt ideal. Feed in moderation along with other vegetables and small amounts of fruits. Feed sparingly as bananas are high in sugar the riper they get.
The smoke from the fires comes and goes, we had a few bad days. I shut all the windows and turned on the A/C. The dogs didn't get much walking but they are doing okay. Thanks for asking 🙂

Hang a piece beside a perch. Try Romain lettuce, chard, kale, or offer spring mix in a bowl. Offer a variety of dark leafy greens.

It's best to sprout them as they provide a more nutritional value. Some raw beans are toxic. Canaries would have a hard time eating raw beans.
