    I love all the math you do in these videos. Would be curious about using an induction cooktop since it's so much more efficient.

      Isn't the induction cooktop required 120v to operate? Besides every energy lost in transit, I'm sure it will be more energy efficient compared to this 4x or 5x simplest set

      @ I think most if not all portable induction hot plates require 120v.

    To get maximum watts from pv panel we need to match the resistance of the panel, (320W/33V=9.6A)(33V/9,6A=3.47 Ohms) to the resistance of the heating element(24 Ohms). 24 Ohms/3.47=@ 7 panels in series. 7x33V per panel in series= 231V. Be careful, probably not a safe voltage to work with. Find an element with lower Ohms and use fewer panels in sereis. David Poz has an excellent video and spreadsheet to find the correct combination of series/parallel panels and resistance heating element.

    The electric coil elements are considered really inefficient given the amount of heat escaping outside the pot. It would be interesting to see a head to head with the that electric coil setup vs an induction plate that heats only the pot! Also as others have said, testing with insulating the electric coil setup so much less heat is escaping could be great.

    Thank you for trying to help & educate everyone !! Even one lesser solar panel alone seems to offer a great opportunity of, 134° F hot water or hot sand and only for a $100 !!? Are there any dangers to running one(or two) solar panel(s) indoors with element(s) 24/7 ?

    I'm more keen to the idea of _combining_ a traditional solar oven/cooker with a bifacial solar panel (with active reflection) driven heating element inside. The solar oven/cooker provides insulation and the direct all around heating, while the solar panel inputs some direct conductive heating to the pot (in my case, I would probably use nichrome wire wrapped around the pot).
    Since I make my own vacuum insulated panels, and would make a double pane top (bottom glass, top acrylic with a half inch or so of space in between), I could get it to cook well even in winter on the coldest of days.
    Not very motivated to do so though, because our property has so little consistent sun. Just too many dang trees around.

    I’d use three of those panels in series, but even better is 2 parallel sets of three panels. Keep in mind that voltage and current output can get dangerous when wiring solar panels together.
    The noodles will cook in warm water with two panels in series, but will take longer.

    since the panels are for 24v setup why not wire them in parallel to increase the amps?

      v=ir. resistance is fixed so only way to increase amps is to increase voltage

    Why not comeup with a heatpump? solar cooker? Could be 300% efficient(uses 1/3 power, to produce same heat of a resistance heater), using same amount of solar power from panels 🤔. Could also make a dessert or cool cans of soda on the side. Definitely not going to fry a thing, but could heat water and most liquids efficiently. For those wanting to fry things, there is always the solar tube cooker, preventing loss from the light to electric conversion, not even needing a solar panel🤯.
    Just some 💭.❤👍

      My understanding is heat pumps don't work well for that sort of application. They can bring a room up 70-90dF above ambient but not 200dF higher so they are not useful for ovens, stoves, etc.

    I love this type of content as I lack imagination but when I see it and demonstrate it I come out looking like a genius, so I really need to hang out with smarter people. My question is does it matter which wire positive or negative goes in the stove top coil?

      Nope, the wires can be reversed and will work exactly the same way.

    How did the current increase in series? Shouldn't it be the same as 1 panel?

      Series usually keeps the current the same but that is when you are using the full capability of the panels. In this case we were well under the amount of current each panel could produce so that falls back to the V = IR relationship so as the voltages doubles we also double the current.

    Nice video. Have you considered using a DC-DC boost converter? I wonder if the efficiency would be better and end up with cooked ramen sooner😉😀

      Not sure if it’s commonplace in solar but this is what hybrid automotive tech has been doing for ages. Electric power steering, variable A/C compressors to names a few.

    Not the fastest, but it WILL work, in case of an emergency. I think It would be faster to light a fire, and boil the water that way. Plus you keep warm. You can warm up water at night, with a fire. I say only in an emergency.

    Nice test. For power outages, I have stuff that microwaves in 2 to 3 minutes at 1,000 watts. Using battery and inverter of course, but can always recharge the battery with solar.

    Why not just use female spade terminals instead of hacking up the burner to use wagos?

    21st century cave man trying to boil water simply?? Some twigs/ sticks/Bic lighter, more simple to make fire to boil water.
