I am Vietnamese. I think of course Malaysia has a lot more points than Vietnam. Along with Thailand, the Malay people are very friendly, they do tourism very well. Malaysia's income is too good if Singapore is not included, double that of Thailand and three times that of Vietnam. I am also impressed with Malaysia's semiconductor industry, you had a vision 50 years ago and now Malaysia is the winner when the US-China trade war occurs. On the contrary, Vietnam was attacked by France in 1858 and since then we have gone through 5 wars with France, Japan, America, China, and Pol Pot, along with 20 years of embargo by the United States and the West. We have only been doing economic for 30 years and have had certain achievements. To be honest, we always looked at Thailand as a goal to overcome 30 years ago, but now I no longer pay attention to comparing Vietnam with other countries in Southeast Asia. I think Malaysia is Malaysia and Vietnam is Vietnam. I hope Vietnam continues to focus on technology to overcome the middle income trap. Cheers

0) As a Thai, it is not fair for comparing of both countries with their current statuses: One has just been re-born from a war-torned ruin and just run their economy only 40 years with a lot of coming challenges. But another one has stood in pace since decolonization with some advantages and sensitive problems: ideologies, cultures and racial stereotype. 1) With some tragic sympathy, the most valued things in Vietnam are PPL who are resilient & optimistic & patriotic and their Country has been there against all the great powers, otherwise they would be some minority in some country unnamed Vietnam. 2) I agree with you for some clauses but some their ethnicities i.e. food with some EAST folk and WEST aspect decay fusion of preparing simple ingredients to finning culinary. Comparing countries just plain wrong and not necessary. Stop this. Especially from those came from the western cultured countries. Keep those thoughts to yourselves.
As a Malaysian working in northern Vietnam, I do not agree 100% with you on affordability. The food is only slightly cheaper when compared with Malaysian food, but the price is the same when it's in Hanoi. Meanwhile, the foreign cuisine (Japanese, Western, Thai, Fast food) in Vietnam are way more expensive compared with Malaysian's. However, their foreign cuisine is absolutely delicious too
I'm from Indonesia, I think Vietnam is a country that has just emerged from war and a country that succeeded in defeating the United States from war. I am very proud of Vietnam.
Vietnam has been silent gunfire since 1989. The United States lifted its economic embargo on Vietnam in 1995. We have only had 29 years of economic development, so how can we compare with Malaysia?
It truly moves me how much understanding and mutual respect Malaysians and Vietnamese show towards each other. I definitely plan to visit your country someday. It's impressive how polite Malaysians are.
Thank you... actually, for Malaysians who attended Missionary schools (ACS, MGS, MBS, King George, St Paul, St Michael, Convent, etc., English IS their first language)- and most of them are not that "conversant" with their mother tongue, as most locals will know, once they start conversing with each other. Personal opinion, I'd take Vietnam over Malaysia but I know a lot of people who'd choose otherwise. Malaysia has the added advantage of being next SG so you can easily do a side tour. Let me share my two cents. I am planning to travel to Vietnam or Malaysia and I could not decide so I searched for Vietnam VS Malaysia and found this video. I understand that the concept of this video is not a negative comparison but rather it is for information for those who are planning to travel. I saw somewhere on youtube a news report of American soldiers who fought in Vietnam in the 1960s and early 1970s. Many have actually moved to Vietnam to live a country they once fought in fighting the Viet Cong in the Vietnam War. They actually prefer living in Vietnam these days than living in the U.S. I thought that was pretty amazing the irony of it. They fought in the Junglesof Vietnam and probably drove up and down Ho Chi Minh city in their U.S. Army jeeps now I wonder if they ever thought they would one come back to Vietnam to live here by choice. Yeah I heard Vietnam is popular with a lot of expatriates. Also Americans fought in Cambodia in the Air Force and a lot of those veterans have moved to live in Cambodia rather than live in the U.S. I found that story absolutely amazing. Makes you question what these AMerican soldiers and Australian soldiers they joined in too I am sure some Australian Vietnam war veterans have also moved to Vietnam and Cambodia because it give a better life for them in their old age than living in either America or Australia. Makes you wonder what did these guys fight for. Democracy? or was it for western corporate elites and their govt puppets.
Another point, its easier to get Vietnamese food in Malaysia (more than 80 places in Klang valley and more than 30 in Penang Island), so whenever I felt like eating clean, I'll just drop by one of the Vietnamese restaurant around Bukit Bintang
Like with every country, it all depends on what you are looking for. Both countries have distinguished deeply cultural (and religious) characteristics and they differ a lot. They also have a lot in common (extremely friendly and hospitable people) and both are very attractive to visit or even live in. As a European expat, I live and work in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, but for business (and holidays) I visit Vietnam on a very frequent basis. I love going Vietnam and I love coming back to Malaysia.
Thank you for your video. I have not been to Malaysia yet, I do plan to in late 2025, but I lived in Vietnam for near two years and not just in HCMC. Vietnam is not easy to get around in because of the language. Hey it's their country and must respect that but geeze, the language barrier is pretty steep once you try to move past renting a room, ordering a beer and buying food. Ironically I loved the small motorcycle lifestyle, loved that part of the country. I have little interest in returning to Vietnam but I also recognize that part of that is that I was 57 years old when I lived there. Lots of young people enjoy Vietnam. I really really look forward to spending several trips to Singapore and I am investigating a retiree visa for Malaysia
There is quite a lot of Vietnamese cuisine in food courts in Malaysia. That is because there are many Malaysian men married to Vietnamese women (you might not notice as they look Chinese now and speak Chinese) and there are a significant number of migrant workers and quite a bit of expats in the IT sector. My friend is an IT trainer so he trains many here in Malaysia and Vietnam. 🇲🇾 ❤ 🇻🇳
I'm Vietnamese and I totally agree with the transportation which is a big factor for tourist to visit different parts of the countries. But it's also a culture thing, at least for me, in our way of thinking, the natrual beauty can only remain the way it is if there are not too much people visit at the same time. I hope it will be improved in the future. Btw, enjoy your trip in SEA :) There are more countries to visit in the region as well, including Thai Land, Lao, Cambodia.
I’m Malaysian. But Im an entrepreneur in Vietnam Ho Chi Minh City for close to 5 years. However I still love both countries. Malaysia is still my country and Vietnam is my second home for now. Both have the pro and cons. I’m very glad that both governments are trying really hard to improve the country.
I'm a Malaysian and would love to visit Vietnam. From all the comments I heard from people who have been there and the UA-cam videos I have watched, Vietnam looks like an awesome country to visit.
I am Vietnamese American, and i stayed in Malaysia as refugee, boat people in the 80's . I would give Malaysia 5, VN 0 because Malaysia is democratic country, government serve their people such like united States, while VN is not transparent country.
Im Malaysian, but i really love nature in Vietnam & Indonesia...they soo amazing...Malaysia have all kind of attraction but Vietnam, Thailand & Indonesia are just another level in term of their nature...for sightseeing, they very good, but for living, i have to say Malaysia is way better especially for families...dont get me wrong because Malaysia have some of the incredible nature especially in Sabah & Sarawak...as for food, i really love Thailand & Vietnamese food but again the availability of other foreign food is insane in Malaysia...i have travelled a lot & it is seriously hard to get other foreign food or it is ridicilously expensive...in Malaysia you just name it...Japanese, Thailand, Korean, Western, Mexican, Arabian, Vietnamese & etc...the price also quite reasonable...the diversity of food really insane...
You can get foreign food in most ASEAN countries , like in Vietnam you can find Arab food ( Lebanese/Syrian/Algerian and Palestine food ) I try them but it not my taste nor Vietnamese people taste they mostly served Arab people here. We have great Italian food tho , if you ever in Vietnam try pizza 4p best pizza / Italian food chain in the region ( been to most ASEAN country and I love pizza and Italian food ) they self made they cheese and pasta 👌, we have french stuff from normal french family food to fancy french dish ( french family food aka the average what french people cook in home are pretty meh )
All asean neighbours are developing at faster rate.No exception in the case of vietnam.Msia is different bcos it was one time under British administration where most of its citizen no stranger to english to speak n understand english.Msia hs been in developing mode since late 80's where vietnam still reeling from vietnam war.Vietnam just changed for better for past 10 years, still new to improve a lot of infrastructure n education.😊
*Vietnamese like Thai, Mandarin or French is a tonal language. A bit difficult to learn... Unlike these languages, Malay like English are much simpler... pronounce it anyway you want but it will mean the same. Example Makan, you can pronounce it as May-Can, May- Kan even though the exact pronounciation is Mah-Kan. And thats means Eat.*
A much travelled Malaysian and I must say I have great admiration for the Vietnamese people. Like a phoenix that has risen from the ashes of the ravages of war, the Vietnamese people are the epitome of resilience. For the Ultras amongst Malaysians, please realise that English is THE global language. Embrace it. People will appreciate us for this.
Great review, I agree with most of what you said and I've lived in Vietnam for well over a decade. A few points I would highlight in my experience is that KL is great for nightlife, at least the times I went, more expensive of course for booze, but I've always had a blast there and never found religion an issue there for partying. As for rent in Saigon, my monthly rent (same 84sqm apartment) is about US$100-US$150 cheaper now than what it was more than a decade ago, there's an oversupply of apartments which makes for great deals! Looking fwd to your next vid!
If you like night life and partying Thailand is the place not Malaysia. Maybe the girls you met in Malaysia are foreigners too. But they like to claim they are Malaysians..
Hi , as a Vietnamese I disagree with you about our language , we have alphabet capital like English , when Malaysia have they own writing , so for foreigner it will be easy to learn Vietnamese then other languages , enjoy watching your video !
Things are changing fast for all of Southeast Asia as it is the region of the future. This is where the future of world trade would be centered on. However, Malaysia is on course to become a fully developed nation by the end of the decade. Vietnam however would be the factory of the world next taking over from China. So they both have their plus points. Both are great nations of the future.
It is very difficult for your guys to comment also. I am totally understand how your feel. 🙂 I am Malaysian living in the UK for 21 years, I am still proud being a Malaysian. Even the UK transportation are suck and the post was awful, I just lost my friend ID card via post, and is 1st class delivery since last week, until today they still couldn't locate the parcel. I was so embarrassing for my friend and frustrated to the UK Royal Mail. I been to Vietnam many times, however the cultural and foods totally different. I even took an overnight train in Vietnam, but is not easy. Overall, both have their own holidays destination. For a family like your guys, yes Malaysia is much easy to convenient for the adult and kids. I hope you enjoy your holiday in Malaysia and Vietnam. Welcome to Malaysia. 🥰 Malaysia welcome you.🙋♂🙏
Been there. It is just ok. A lot of unhealthy fried food. In addition, now a lot of produce are imported from China. I can't believe that one either. I don't know why!
I'm a Malaysian. I absolutely love your family! ❤️ As an orphan with no father, it is hard for me to travel around with my family when I was little. I love to see you guys bringing your kids to enjoy their lives on different parts of the world. That was my dream as a kid
English is pretty much the global language anyway if a tourist visits 5 different countries aside a few basic survival phrases do you expect that person to speak 5 different languages?
Because English is used as an international language to communicate around the world, i'm glad that our government is prioritizing the use of English at school and work, if you want to find a job here in Malaysia, the 3 main languages you need to master are Malay, English and Chinese.
Malaysia is ---> Singapore at a discount. The unique thing about southeast asia is despite our diverse culture, language, religion, political system etc, we don't make enemies with each other and we respect each other like brotherhood. Except for our friendly rivalry with Singapore 😁
I always agree what most foreign tourists said for good reasons to spent of themselves in Malaysia compare to Vietnam. But, still global foreign capital investors most like to spend big-big investment in Vietnam compare to others. 🤔🤔🤔
Yes, if the cost just based on foods and accommodation then we can't afford to fight Vietnam. But if you live as a citizen in Malaysia... I think Malaysia is more affordable on overall. Our rice, fuel, cooking oil, and many household items are way cheaper than all the countries. Not only Asean. But if based on tourism, maybe you'll see we are a bit expensive.
Many people make a wrong assumption that they are comparing which country is better, but I think the intention of this video is to help tourist to decide for holiday trip, based on their food preferences, budgets, transportation, and communication. But funny enough, a lot of the viewers are either Malaysian or Vietnamese.. lolz
Japan China and Korea they are rich but they don't need to be good at English instead they worship their native language Even though we are not rich in Vietnam, we don't need to be good at English because when you come to our country, you learn my country's language and we love our native language, Vietnamese, so for more than 1,000 years of northern domination, nearly 100 years. French domination, 20 years of American imperialist invasion, but we still keep our language and we are proud of that!
Respect. ❤❤❤ As someone from Bangladeshi traveling in SouthEast Asia from California… my native country hasn’t been able to recover from western colonialism. I am so proud of my fellow Asian countries Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore for developing their countries. This region is a wonderful place to live and hope it continues to develop in peace.
I am Vietnamese 🇻🇳 What are you nationality? Are you love Vietnam ? I hope you have an idea how much you enjoy traveling in Vietnam the most in the world
vietnamese food is healthier. Lots of veges and very little oil. Some are good many just ok2 only. Its pale in comparison to thai or malaysian or indonesian food. That is my opinion after trying many viet food in msia and a trip to hanoi and sapa. Will visit vietnam again to see its nature.
A fairer comparison would be had if you have equal proficiency in both languages. Vietnam is aspiring to be Singapore 2.0 and is already benefiting massively from rapid economic development (check out their FDI and how much Singapore is investing in them now). As a largely homogenous population.. (mostly Kinh people ) and given the economy only opened up and started developing in the 90s, the current standard of English may be a bit lacking but will surely catch up in a few more years. Malaysia is a melting pot where we can find all sorts of cuisine... Malay, chinese (different dialect groups), indians, western, arabic, etc... whereas Vietnamese food is largely unique to the region (Northern, Central, Southern). I grew up eating Malaysian food all my life but in the past years, I've been crazy about Vietnamese food, culture and history.. and there's so much to explore than just the banh mi or pho - but I've got to say it's hard not to miss Malaysian food for it's more diverse and intense flavours. Infrastructure is tricky because of VN terrain, but driving is indeed a huge problem there.. personally at least. Vietnam is definitely more affordable (for now), but prices are slowly moving upwards! As someone who speaks English, Malay, Chinese and Vietnamese and is based in both, I have to say I miss VN when I am in MY, and vice versa. That's the real magic of being in ASEAN!
Malaysia is also receiving lots of FDI from high tech companies especially in semiconductors, EV and AI. Nvidia, Infineon, Intel, Microsoft, AT&S, Texas Instruments, Ericsson, Lam research and many more are investing billions in Malaysia collectively
I was there last years and spend about a month there , used public transportation there , air ,train ,grab ,taxi, buses , just sooooo easy and affordable and easy to get around

Also, their geography, geopolitic are so related to their rich, beautiful, painful&proud history.

As a Malaysian working in northern Vietnam, I do not agree 100% with you on affordability. The food is only slightly cheaper when compared with Malaysian food, but the price is the same when it's in Hanoi. Personal opinion, I'd take Vietnam over Malaysia but I know a lot of people who'd choose otherwise. Malaysia has the added advantage of being next SG so you can easily do a side tour. I'll never forget my Hue to Da Nang train ride though (if you know what I mean), that's why Vietnam takes the cake for me.

There history between Vietnamese n Malaysian made Malaysian n Vietnamese love 💘 each other
Thank you for your video.
